The Mirrors: The Mirrors: Research (p11)

Now left alone with her, Rolen glanced over at Raylith.

“Um... I have some errands I need to get done... see ya later?”

He darted outdoors before she could respond, and hurried away. As he walked he remembered something. Leed had disappeared... was it magic? He pondered the possibilities as he walked.

The next day, Rolen approached Sir Jethro and questioned him, in accordance with Leed’s instructions.

“Sir... about the King...”

“Rolen, please, do not talk about this.”

“I just want to know about the banquet that was held that night.”

The knight sighed.

“I wasn’t there. All I know is by heresay. But I do know the banquet was held for all the nobles in the land, and that there was a political meeting to be held the next day.”

He paused before continuing.

“It is said that the queen left the feast complaining of a headache. All of this is just rumor, mind.”

Rolen thought for a moment. That all made sense... nothing suspicious at all. He felt like he would have nothing to report when he met with the others...

*******************************************

Raylith sat on her bed, absorbed in the book. The Royal Crown: Magik of the Mage was an interesting book, to say the least, and she had sat for hours, absorbed in magical lore and ancient runes. There were copies of the notes that were supposedly written by the Mage who created the Crown, written in runes and containing a few clips of spells. And the powers that the Crown held!

Raylith flipped the page. The new page showed an illustration of the Crown, surrounded by runes of a different kind than in the rest of the book. She would have to decipher them later. It was getting late, she was tired, and was beginning to get a slight headache...

*******************************************

Leed had spent that day in researching history. As Rolen had guessed, he was not from the country of Darvenia... so if he were to understand, he would need some knowledge of the situation. He had gained a basic knowledge of the broad sweep of Darvenian history, and some more detailed knowledge on the reign of the most recent queen.

Queen Mira seemed to have been a just ruler. But apparently things had changed since the reign of Bloomstead. During Mira’s reign there had been more institutions for the people. She had built libraries and schools, and there had been peace throughout the land. But I’m Bloomstead’s reign, many of the public institutions had been torn down, and there was tension within the kingdom, and with a few of the neighboring kingdoms... it seemed that Darvenia had lost an excellent leader.
