The brother of the accomplished fossil-studying professor, the best 23-year-old bug-type trainer in the entire Unova region, was ready to take on the Champion of his home.
He turned to his friends, who he had traveled with for years. His aggressive Scolipede, Sting, and her green gaze. His elegant Vespiquen, Queenie, who commanded a swarm of highly-trained Combee. His agile Ninjask, Shredder, and his sharpened claws. His beautiful Volcarona, Solar, raised from an egg and gifted with the power of stars. His powerful Galvantula, Volt, and his lightning that could crush stone. And finally, his Vivillon, Tiny, who had been with him from the very beginning.
Together, they could take on the world- and that was what they were going to do.
As the crew walked, skittered, and flew up the steps, filling the empty air with a cacophony of bug-type noise. As he neared the top, the noise began to shift into a brilliant harmony- the harmony of the team. The final steps were conquered, literally and figuratively, and Maxine felt he had reached the top of his journey.
And at the top, a dark figure stood. It couldn’t be.
“Erihm.”
The figure, Erihm, pointed his staff at our hero. A light began to glow, deeper and brighter…
Then it went dark.
