Stand By Me

by NightRaven

NightRaven The city of Insomnia has taken a turn for the worst.
As the nights grow longer with the coming of Winter...they soon grow perpetual, widening the window of time for demons to rise. However, four unlikely allies— A Thief, a Warrior, a Mage, and a Healer— rise to return the dawn's grand light.
Forming bonds of all types, facing losses and tragedies, staring their worst nightmares in the face, this group of friends forms ever stronger in their search of the stone to banish the demons to the farthest reaches of Oblivion. They realize what it means to stand together...
And that traitors are often those closest to you...
"As the coldest days arise
Along with the longest night,
Four powerful allies
Will return the light.

One will live their life in the dark,
With the sharp daggers to leave a mark.

The second will bear a blade of light,
And will not give up without a fight.

A third will bear no blade,
But with them, your pain will fade.

The fourth will cast a spell bright,
To pierce the dark of the endless night.

Together the four, never alone,
Will find the ever elusive stone.

Thus the stone of the eternal eclipse,
Shall vanquish the enemy to the mist."

"Astrals above, when will this end?"
"Melyssa, complaining's not getting us anywhere."
There they were. The four, standing as one. Allies amongst each other. They knew each other well, despite seeming each like serious enemies in what they were.
There was Melyssa, who had been the Mage. She was quite stubborn at times, and even known to be adamant. She was a strong young woman who could hold her own, but still decided upon standing with three others. She, however, was often known to take on bounties and hunts to earn some money. She was born in Uurjland, in an unknown city, and left when she had the chance. She hid her identity to appear as though she'd been born in Serendaal. She never liked that place...
Especially since it's changed for darker times ahead. Now, they don't even use human soldiers...
The thoughts of the mechanical, humanoid soldiers made her shudder, especially from how they were formed.
There was then Alan, the Thief. He was a wonderful person, overall, despite being a Thief, but he had no choice otherwise. He tries to make up for it by helping others, but he believes that he fails miserably.
He was born directly in Insomnia, the capital of Serendaal, which supported the Nexus, which was a city used as a trading center between travelers. Without Insomnia, the Nexus would be collapsing. He never left home as he never dared to, but he claims that he has plans to in the years to come.
After Alan had been Locke, the Warrior. Locke seemed to act as the leader of the group at times, but not often. He could crush an enemy's skull within moments if he had the chance to.
Locke had been born in the Nexus and was sent to Insomnia to remain as a guard, especially to the royal family of Corvirus, who ruled over all of Serendaal. He, of course, had to obey, as there was no other place to go for him. But he soon changed his mind when Alan persuaded him...
The last of the four was Lily, the Healer. She was a kind woman who would always attempt to heal the wounds of her allies as quickly as possible. Considering she was a Healer, she was sent to countless cities every now and then to heal those that have been injured. But, she ran away, growing annoyed of having to heal so many who never respected her much.
In fact, they only held up an act to respect her, but they used her like a tool, as though she only had this role through her whole life, until death. She managed to escape with the help of Alan, and no one ever found her. Ever since then, she'd hidden her identity as healer.
Twilight Nova and Ariados twice like this.
