Yeah, honestly I'm nitpicking because I'm a huge biology/creature design person and one of my big things is trying to make nonsensical fantasy designs in stuff like Pokemon make some degree of sense. XD

I appreciate the context here, though. Explains why you went with the designs you did. ^^

Well I planned it to be a water/ice pokemon so I had to incorporate some form of cold related details into it aside of the fur and the ice claws it has in the final Evo, as for the partial coats, during the second stage they act as some form of partial warmth though not that much fur had grown on it, but in the final Evo it went from partial warmth to fashion... plus I needed a fluffy hug-able starter since hugging a fire bug or a moving cactus patch isn't a good idea XD

But seriously the coat is for the fashion aspect, a bit of Ice type vibe and because each starter is a reference to one of the 3 areas my fan made region is based on

Grass - middle east and our cactus filled desert

Fire - Egypt and their not-as-hot-as-ours-but-still-hot weather

Water - ancient persia's royalties and their taste in fashion

Huh. Fuzzy sea serpents with arms going into some form of Naga with a fashion twist. The overall idea is nifty, but this is where it sort of falls apart for me.

For one, the 'colder than liquid helium' blood is ridiculous as frell, especially if the species is kept as food. Liquid helium is near absolute zero (approximately 4 degrees Kelvin, or −269 °C), and... well... very strange things begin to happen to matter near absolute zero. A creature would not be able to function with blood at that temperature, especially if it depends on oxygen for survival. But then, canon Pokedex entries are obviously written by 10 year olds with little regard to actual biology, and this isn't the biggest stretch Pokemon pulled off in flavor text.

What's even more nonsensical though are these partial fur coats. Fur and water do not generally mix, unless it's very specifically structured fur (I recommend looking into the fur of polar bears and its particular multi-layered structure, for this matter) - what evolutionary purpose would a partial coat like this serve? Surely not protection from the cold, when all this surface area on the tail and face is exposed to the elements!

Still, I guess fantasy creatures are as fantasy creatures go, or something. xD
