A pack of wolverks were heading towards the center of Blackthorn, but I had lost all hope and decided to not fight those ravenous beasts. But somewhere in my heart, for some reason, I felt the urge to follow them.

I followed them all the way to the center. For some reason, the wolverks stopped their move. They all start moving around in a circle; they were planning on attacking something. But I wondered how that was possible, no one had come to this forest in years. I went closer to the scene, and saw a young man, and it seemed as though he had his sword deep into the ground. The wolverks seemed to have their eyes fixed on this young man.

And suddenly, the wolverks went and attacked the man. I didn't bother to go help the young man, in fact, I haven't bothered in years. The wolverks might be disgusting looking creatures, but they sure do move elegantly, and with that elegant speed, they went and charged at the young man. I was surprised to see the young man grab his sword with such speed, and charge at one of the wolverks. In a matter of seconds, the wolverk he had attacked was down. All of the other wolverks were still circling around him, but he kept his stance. One wolverk, after another, and they all fell beneath this young man's feet.

I hadn't shown my face in years, but I couldn't help but walk up to this man. He must've still been on the edge, because as soon as I got near him, he had his sword straight at me with an intense look.
I said, "Woah, woah, woah. Calm yourself there, friend."
He looked at me with a confused expression and said, "What do you want with me, you fiend?"
"Not much, really. It's just that your swordsmanship has moved me beyond words! You're really quite impressive." The look on the young man's face seemed extremely doubtful, and didn't have an ounce of fear in it whatsoever, unlike many others. I gave the same look myself, and asked, "Why do you not run away, or at the very least scream, like all the others?"
The man looked very annoyed when I said that, and exclaimed, "Why? It's because I am no coward, that's why! I'll prove that to my brother one day! And you want to know something, I'm going to prove it right now!" The young man held out his sword, and exclaimed, "I am Orev, brother of the king of Blackthorn, and I won't lose to any beast!" and he held out his sword, ready in position.

I was shocked to hear that he was sire Orev, but before I could say anything, he went ahead and charged at me. He was very impressive, very impressive indeed, but he still was no match for me. I was easily able to dodge every one of his attacks. I could see the anger and frustration on his face. This battle was taking too long, so I decided to end it. As he was charging for another attack, I swiftly dodged it, and I pointed my sword at his face. I could see the shocked look on his face.

It was a long moment of silence, until he finally spoke, and said, "Who are you?"
I put down my sword, and responded with, "I am Lycaon, head of the royal guard, or at least I used to be."
"Head of the royal guard? The head of the guard is my brother, not some beast like yourself!" he exclaimed.
"Yeah, I sort of knew you were going to react this way, everyone else has. You're just as simple-minded as everyone else is because of this dumb curse."
"What are you talking about? What curse?" he asked.
"It's a long story, but I'll tell you anyways," I said.

I decided to tell him everything that I know. He listened to all of it in awe. As soon as I finished telling my story, he said, "I knew it! My brother doesn't seem worthy to be king. The logical thing to do is find my father, and restore our kingdom back to the way it was," Orev said.
"It isn't that simple," I responded.
"What do you mean?" Orev asked.
"I have been looking for years, and I am not even close to finding your father. It's been so long that I've decided to give up on searching all together," I responded. "You can't give up!" he exclaimed. I look at him, and he went on, and said, "Didn't you tell me that you were the best guardsmen out there? You told me that was the reason my father had chosen you to be the head of the royal guard, was it not? I don't all of this as well as you do, but from what I've heard, I'm willing to give it a shot. The question now is, are you?"
I couldn't stand it anymore, and I said, "You're right. I...we're...going to make Blackthorn the way it used to be."
Fishykarp and SS-I Never like this.
