I'd imagine that spiritombs are formed when somebody puts one soul or more into a special stone, this is often done so that criminals can never rest in peace. However, there are many that were falsely accused of crimes they have not committed. People who embody a Spiritomb have likely been accused of being a witch. Such practices now are outdated and unknown to many people and are highly illegal, however, this does not stop some people from trying this.
