Prologue: Man in the Mask

by Ry_Burst

Ry_Burst Hey guys, a new series, that is a bit unique. But I hope you guys like it.
Money and power are two things that have always seemed to rely on one another. The more money you had, the more power and influence seemed to ooze out of you. And the stronger you were, the more money you could receive. Many rich men have accepted this fact, and for Cronus, this was no different.

Cronus is a leader of sorts. Not of the kind of person who leads by example, as that type of leadership is like a fossil. Old, forgotten, and buried deep. This man leads through power, money, and most of all fear, like most modern men of power. But there was something different about Cronus. The mask he always wore. Some thought it was because his face was disfigured. Others figured it was so that one day, he could disappear into society one of these days and settle down. Maybe he just was ugly and self conscious. Little did those middle men know, but there was no logical reason for the mask upon Cronus’ face. He was a man without rhyme or reason, yet seemed to need it so. The mask had now became an icon, and if anyone ever saw that white blank mask, with the black eyes, they knew that either they were in serious trouble or it was going to be a great day.

But where did this man’s leadership originate from? Well fear. He started small and people began to fear him. He raised his gang, Team Infinity, from the bottom and now they seemed to have the Seven Islands under their control. But more importantly, this power, fear, and money he had accumulated was all a part of Cronus’ quest for science. And this drive is what leads us into our story today.

Dr. Samuel Cross is Cronus’ lead researcher, and most of his work is kept a secret from the rest of Team Infinity, as a safety measure. Dr. Cross’ work was best left hidden. The man’s job was to create the next breed of super battlers. He was genetically modifying five kids after wiping their memories and hoping to make them cognitive and loyal battlers. But Cronus was an impatient man in a lot of ways. And he demanded that Dr. Cross’ tests be completed faster. And that is how our story begins.

“Anubis, Go Quick Attack!” A young teen with black hair raised his hand into the air, as he gave his command to his Riolu. The little blue Pokemon, tensed his muscles as he charged forward, as if he was skating across the slick floors.

A thin lanky teen with blonde hair gave a smirk. “Go Ronin, counter with Scratch! Knock him off balance!” A Sneseal ran forward with his claw behind his back. As they two neared a direct collision, Ronin made a sweep with his claw. The attack rammed into the Riolu’s leg’s causing Anubis to flip. The small blue fighting type crashed again the cement battlefield and slid away, scraping the ground.

“We need to use Counter! Make a gamble!” A young, slightly high pushed voice said inside of the dark haired teen’s head. The boy recognized it as Anubis using his aura. The the two had been getting used to using Aura more often. The boy gave a nod and grinned.

“Okay, Aerial Ace!” The Blonde haired boy gave his command sternly with a smirk. He didn’t know the silent plan being formed. His Sneasel may have been at a type disadvantage, but the boy was still extremely strong, and was often considered on of the strongest battlers in the Team Infinity Juniors Division. Out of the five of them, he was the one who seemed to impress the almost unimpressible doctors, scientists, and leaders who monitored them almost constantly. But this could be their chance to impress them all.

But he would need to wait until their opponent was close. And as the Sneasel who was now wrapped in white streaks of light flew closer, the boy dug his heels in. “Now, Counter!” It was their latest move, and the duo was still having trouble. But hopefully they could pull it off. The Riolu stepped forward and grappled the underbelly of Ronin. Then he lifted him up, and put all the strength the Sneasel was suing against it, for a powerful hit.

With a cloud of dust, Ronin was defeated, leaving Anubis still standing, but he was still panting heavily.

“Frankie. Well it seems you lost. This hasn’t happened for a while. You need to not let the pride take control. You, Davis. It looks like you won. Both of you, return to your rooms and rest. Tomorrow is an important day for the both of you.” A man wearing a lab coat said who had been referring the battle. He held up two Pokeballs an returned both Pokemon to their Pokeball,s and waltzed away leaving the two boys alone.

“Congrats Davis.” Frankie said grinning, while clenching his teeth. It was obvious he was pushing back anger, but Davis couldn’t help but accept it.

“Thanks mate,” Davis said giving a grin. After they walked away, Davis felt his heart race. He had finally won. His mind was racing with thoughts as he walked through the white clean hallways, until he wound up outside of his room. It was a somewhat small room, but it had a bathroom, bed, dresser, desk and other things, allowing him to live here. He had for 16 years of his life. And for all he knew, he would be for the rest of his life. However little did he know that his freedom to the outside world was just around the corner.
