Pokémon Type Theory

by Pokéboy098

Pokéboy098 This is the Pokémon type theory, an idea developed by Professor Upas of the Synkori region, one of the leading experts on Pokémon types. It is also occasionally called Upas’ Theory.

Of course, Upas’ Theory also usually includes the unrelated and quite short, “Chicken and the Egg Theory.” This essentially says that most Pokémon which people believe to be man-made or believe to have adapted alongside humans actually existed before humans, and humans copied them into inventions (e.g. Vanillish -> Ice Cream). However, this has been left out of this theory, due to it only having a very loose connection with one of his points about man-made Pokémon.
  1. There are 23 types of infinity energy which exist.
    • The 18 types of Pokémon.
    • Mega-Energy: This grows in a Pokémon as the bond between trainer and Pokémon grows. This is channeled by a mega stone attached to the Pokémon, and triggered by a key stone on the trainer to signal mega evolution. This can be triggered anywhere at any time, but the form can only be held for a certain amount of time, and is thus saved most often for battles.
    • Z-Energy: Similarly to Mega-Energy, this grows in a Pokémon as the bond between trainer and Pokémon grows. This is also triggered by a stone to produce a Z-move, but a Sparkling Stone this time. It can be triggered anywhere at any time, but it can only be used once every now and then, since it exhausts the Pokémon’s supply of Z-energy. So, once again, it is saved for battles.
    • Dynamax-Energy: Can be found in nature at Dynamax spots and in Pokémon in trace amounts. Can be triggered with wishing stars to Dynamax a Pokémon, but requires outside energy sources to replenish the energy within the Pokémon itself, since this is used up quickly in max form.
    • Gigantamax-Energy: Reacts with Dynamax energy to Gigantamax a Pokémon, also when triggered with a wishing star. Can be found within a Pokémon. A Pokémon’s energy ratio can easily be changed regarding Gigantamax energy to allow it to Gigantamax by feeding it the chemical compounds in Max Soup.
    • God Energy: The energy which triggers Pokémon life. Without at least a little of it, Pokémon cannot exist. This is generated by Arceus.
  2. Each type of energy has its own properties and can react with others in different ways, similar to the elements of the periodic table.
  3. These reactions are what create weaknesses, resistances, and immunities in Pokémon.
  4. The energies existed long before humans, and the names have been given to them by humans, usually due to their shared properties with thing humans already knew about (e.g. fire, water, grass, ice, etc.).
  5. A Pokémon is created when energy combines with periodic elements in certain ratios, and this most often happens within an egg, although there are some exceptions, such as certain ghost types that are created spontaneously in nature.
  6. True man-made Pokémon were created with DNA from pre-existing Pokémon (and therefore an energy signature) or when energy was forced to enter a creature. The reason most man-made Pokémon experiments fail is the lack of the mysterious 23rd energy.
  7. All Pokémon have trace amounts of each energy in different ratios, which is what allows each Pokémon to use moves from different types. However, the majority of a Pokémon’s energy will be of its own type(s).
  8. A Pokémon’s type can be changed without changing the Pokémon itself in a few ways:
    • The Pokémon uses a move in battle which removes a type, or has a move used against it which adds a type.
    • A Pokémon mega-evolves.
    • A Pokémon is synthetically monitored and kept at unnatural ratios.
    • A Pokémon’s energy ratio is changed due to environmental factors.
  9. If a Pokémon with one type loses a type for a long enough period of time, it will be in pain, and similarly, if a Pokémon with two types gains one for too long, it will also be in pain. This is due to lack of or excess of energy.
  10. If a Pokémon’s energy ratio is changed for long enough, it will change appearance, and possibly develop a new form.
  11. If it does this, it will remain in its new typing permanently, unless changed again.
  12. An item could be used to hold a Pokémon at a certain type or types indefinitely until it actually changes form.
  13. A Pokémon can only come into being with the assistance of God Energy, which comes for Arceus, at some point in time.
  14. This is usually passed down from the parent Pokémon or found (rarely) in trace amounts in nature, although, sometimes, Arceus may intervene itself, as in the case of particular man-made Pokémon like Porygon.
  15. If Arceus could be captured, tested, and/or harvested, humans could develop god-like capabilities of creation, new Pokémon, and probably new technological advancements.
  16. Pokémon almost always live in areas which have higher amounts of the energy they have. This to replenish their strength more easily if they use it up.
  17. In particular, Pokémon with moves that remove a type, such as Burn Out for fire types, put extra emphasis on living in areas of high energy of their type, since they will need it to return back to normal.
