Dayton had finally made it to his first gym. He read the statue near the enterence. Both Evan, and Jasmin had already beaten Falkner. Dayton had trained Abrel, and Ratata in Bellsprout tower, and they were ready. Dayton walked onto the platform. It carried him into the air, were two trainers waited.
"If you want to see the Gum Leadet then you have to beat us" they said.
"Alright, ... let's go Abrel" Dayton said as his Cyndoquil jumped out of it's Pokéball. The first trainer sent out a Pidgy. Dayton's Cyndoquil used ember, and burnt the Pidgy. The Pidgy used tackle. Cyndoquil's ember then made the Pidgy faint. The second trainer stood up, and sent out a Spearow. "Abrel use leer, then tackle" Dayton commanded. The leer hit, but the Spearow dodged.
"Use peck" the trainer said. Abrel was badly injured.
"Use Ember" Dayton said. Abrel used Embour, and got a critical hit, making the Spearow faint.
"You're good, take this to heal your Pokémon" the second trainer said as he threw a Potion to Dayton.
"Thanks" Dayton replied. He sprayed Abrel with the Potion, and proceeded to Falkner. "I'm here to challenge you" Dayton said.
"I expected you to come" Falkner said "Your sister said you would also beat me, so let's test that theory." Falkner said. "The elites only want me to use one Pokémon on trainers who don't have any badges, so let's go" he said before throwing out a Pidgeoto. Dayton threw out his Cyndoquil.
"Use Ember" Dayton said. Cyndoquil hit.
"Use Roost, then peck" Falkner said. Pidgeoto healed, then flew down at Cyndoquil. Cyndoquil dodged.
"Now that it's down, use Leer, then burn it with Ember" Dayton commanded. The Ember burned Pidgeoto. Pidgeoto then pecked Abrel.
"Wing attack." Pidgeoto hit Cyndoquil, and he fainted. Dayton returned Abrel, then threw out his shiny Pidgy. "Shinies are pretty rare" Falkner said "If you beat me, I'll give you a item that will help your Pidgy." Dayton ordered Pidgy to tackle Pidgeoto. Pidgeoto was already weakened by the leer.
"Let's go Pidgy, finish him with another tackle."
"Use peck." The two ran at each other, and attacked.

The winner was Dayton's Pidgy. "Very good" Falkner said "I promised a badge, so here it is." He tossed his badge to Dayton. "And here is that item I talked about." Falkner pulled out a TM for Roost, and gave it to Dayton.
"Thanks" Dayton said. He used the TM on Pidgy, and Pidgy learned Roost. Dayton then left the Gym with one of the eight gym badges.
