On The Bright Side: OTBS Chapter 13: The Distraction

by Silvermist599

Silvermist599 Noah puts his half of the plan into action, even though he's having second thoughts. Will everything go as planned?
The next morning, my piano riff alarm again woke me for school. I rode in silence that moment as my mom drove me and got out of the car, walking in, feeling more nervous than ever in my life.

I knew the plan, I knew what to do, and I knew my place. However, I didn’t know if I was making the right decision. I was terrified that something would go wrong and I’d have to go back…

The first four periods went by like a blur and before I knew it, I was walking toward the principal’s office at the beginning of the lunch period. “No turning back now,” I told myself quietly as I neared the door. I took a deep breath before knocking on the door.

I could hear Mr. Colstrom getting up from his desk and coming to the door and I made sure to compose myself as the door opened and I faced Mr. Colstrom.

“Mr. Connors.” He stated. “Is there something you wish to discuss?” He asked knowingly. I looked at him surprised before answering.

“Yes sir,” I said politely. “I’m willing to give you this.” I said, holding up the fake necklace Kara had made. “But first, I want to talk about some things.” I said.

“Very well, come inside, I’m sure we can reach an agreement,” He said with the most vile smile ever.

“No, we can discuss it in the empty computer classroom.” I tell him matter-of-factly.

“Fine,” he said, and walked past me toward the empty classroom and I confidently followed him, trusting my friends to do their part as I distracted him.

Inside the classroom, Colstrom stood opposite me and asked, “so what are your terms for giving me the necklace your best friend entrusted to you?” He asked, looking at me with a knowing expression that honestly worried me, but I didn’t let it show.

“I want to go home.” I said to him, keeping eye contact. “Tomorrow if possible.” I punched the desk for dramatics. “I hate it here. I can’t stand it. There’s no rules, no regulations, everything’s in chaos and I know you can send me home somehow.”

Colstrom looked at me surprised. “You want to go home?” He asked, surprised. “That can be arranged, but I want to know the real reason you wish to return home.” He said.

At that, I turned away hiding a smile as I played my part, “I miss Nate.” I said, a fake tear rolling down my cheek. “My Nate. Not the one here who hates me and looks at me like I’m literal scum.” I continued before paining my expression and turning again to him. “I want my friend back.”

Mr. Colstrom laughed at that. “Is that all?” He asked, surprised. “Well, then yes.” He said. “Give me the necklace now and report to the office first thing tomorrow and I’ll have you sent home.” He said, holding out his hand for the necklace and I obliged, placing the fake necklace in his hand.

He seemed to fall for it, for the time being at least. Hopefully, it would stay that way.
