Orson is both a playable unit and enemy unit in Fire Emblem Sacred Stones, a game that is filled to the brim with memorable villains despite how small their role may be to the entire plot. At first, he gives off the impression that he's just your typical "Jagen" for Ephraim's route: taking hits while helping your other units get stronger for the one gaiden chapter you can actually use him in. After which, he betrays Ephraim and is the reason why Eirika and Ephraim reunite soon after. His reasons for backstabbing Ephraim are made unclear until later on when it's revealed he did all the horrible things he did all so his deceased wife, Monica, can be brought back to life...to an extent.

You finally get to fight him in Chapter 16, and his dialogue heavily hints that the Orson you have to kill, is not the same Orson that Ephraim knew and fought together with. His lust for his "revived" wife grows only stronger as you draw closer, and eventually draw your blade upon him. His HP drops to zero, and all he has to say is:

"Monica..."

As soon as you think the chapter is over, Eirika and Ephraim decide to check the room where "Monica" is locked up in...and the two are horrified at what they see. You as the player don't get to see exactly what Monica has become, but just from the slight amount of dialogue sends shivers down anyone's spine just from seeing the far off text boxes going:

"...Darling..."
"...Darling..."

"..Darling..."

Necrophilia confirmed for GBA.

Orson's small tale is nothing more than the epitome of tragedy. He is formerly known as a respectful knight of Renais, and his love for his kingdom is only outmatched by his love for Monica. Her death was just enough to bring down this amazing person, and he was willing to do anything to see her by his side again...even if it meant betraying his allegiance, and his wife would be nothing more than a talking corpse held together by dark magic. Tragedy, followed by madness, brings out the worst in humanity, and the best in villains.
