On The Bright Side: On The Bright Side Chapter 2: A Blinding Revelation

by Silvermist599

Silvermist599 Noah wakes up to find himself bombarded with color, and everything here is just... well you'll see...
The next morning, I woke up feeling more refreshed than usual as my alarm went off. My alarm. Not a piano riff. Why was I hearing a piano riff? Confused, I peek my eyes, but am immediately forced to shut them again. It was too good to be true. Also, too blinding to be true. Hesitantly, I open them again and it seems my eyes hadn’t deceived me, I was seeing color! ‘So many purples, blues, and greens!’ I think excitedly looking at the fire colored clothes in the closet. I then remembered how my mom would probably react if she saw it and immediately shut the closet door and swept my hair the way it always was, before walking out of my room, remembering to take the necklace with me.

My mom wasn’t waiting for me when I left my room. It was strange. She’d always been there to make sure I kept in line, but she wasn’t now. Thinking nothing of it at the time, I showered and looked mournfully at what looked like green hair dye. At least, I thought it was green. Boy, wouldn’t that go over well…

“Finally had enough of the orange?” my mom asked as I got to the car.

“Orange?” I asked in confusion, unaware of what she meant.

“Oh, don’t even pretend that you haven’t been wearing orange and dying your hair for the past few months.” She asked, but it sounded more like friendly teasing than criticism. It was weird. And it was also the point where I found out the difference between green and orange…..

A few minutes later, I got out of the car at school and was immediately terrified. All the students were, they were… TALKING! That was forbidden! A few were even waving at me! I tensed up and was just waiting for Mr. Colstrom to come racing out and sentence all of us to training for a full month. ‘Wait, they have training, right?’ I think to myself, confused. It actually didn’t look like they did, after all, I was the only one wearing a uniform. Strange.

However, the strangest things were in class. The desks were together, like my desk was next to Nate’s and two other kids’ desks.

“Trying out gray again?” Nate asked and I looked at him in shock. He was talking at school. We nevertalk at school. Not knowing what to do, I blank and just stare at him. “Are you okay?” He asked next, seeming concerned. I just nodded. “Well, you’re still going to be at my place tonight to work on our project, right?” He asked me and I again nodded. He laughed. “Decided to go mute today?”

I didn’t answer. I didn’t say anything at all that class period, and the Nate and the two strangers all looked concerned. However, I did manage to gather some info. First of all, the girl at our table’s name was Kara and the short boy was Mikey. Second, here, we had the same project as before, it was just, we were supposed to do it together, like all four of us. Third and most importantly, there was a meeting at Nate’s lab after school. That I was used to. Maybe I could get some answers as well.

The rest of school went essentially the same way. People talked and laughed, which was unusual, and our assignments were the same, but slightly altered, like in piano class, where we were playing Für Elise in the major key instead of the one I was used to for some reason. However, the bell finally rang for the end of seventh period, and I bolted for the door. I needed to get to Nate’s place, because I needed some answers.
