Theories n' Stuff: Ninjago: WHAT IS TIME?!?!??!

by Cloudswift

Cloudswift So. I may or may not be here to ruin Ninjago for many poor souls. :p

Okay. So something that's been on my mind for--I kid you not--MONTHS: How the hell does time work in Ninjago? And I'm not talking about Krux and Acronix time. I'm talking about extensive periods of time. Think thousands of years. Maybe the creators of the Ninjago franchise just didn't think that anyone would read into this as seriously as I'm about to. Got news, guys. I'm doing it.

Let's start at the beginning. The First Spinjitzu Master created the world. Okay, he's basically Arceus, for lack of a term that wouldn't make someone feel religiously uncomfortable. I can accept that. Granted, this would probably make it literal ages before humans appeared if we were going off of the assumption that Ninjago is like an alternate version of Earth. Then he has a wife and kids, Wu and Garmadon. Getting into the realm of unrealisticness here, but this is a show where the main characters have elemental powers. Blah, blah, Overlord, blah, blah, Elemental Masters, blah, blah, Serpentine War. Garmadon plays the role of Mr. Steal Your Girl and passes off Wu's love letter to Misako as his own, winning her love, and has Lloyd with her. Ninja, snakes, killer robots...Wait, robots?!

This is where things get a bit out of hand. In the actual scheme of things, Lloyd is only third generation Ninjago-an. As in, his grandparents were the first people on the face of the planet. This would mean that millenia of human development would have happened within under one hundred years. Realistically, Lloyd and company should have just discovered fire by the third season! Maybe they're domesticating dogs in the next one.

Of course, this theory could have a counterargument. We haven't seen Wu's and Garmadon's actual elemental abilities yet. Sure, we've seen Sensei conjure up a dragon and both of them have demonstrated Spinjitzu, but those aren't real elemental powers. Any Elemental Master can do them. Who's to say that their powers aren't the ability to live longer than the normal human and age less frequently? Of course, I can shut this down with a single question: What about Misako? She's not an Elemental Master. Well, I suppose anything's possible, but it's highly unlikely she would have the same element as Garmadon and Wu. That said, it is an open book. The story's not over yet. In the meantime, this has been a teenager discussing something in a less crazed way and involving less caps lock than she thought would be necessary.

To be fair Ninjago was ruined for me when Zane turned out to be a robot. From then out I just stopped caring.
