Kymon Region Adventures: Chapter Seven - The First Gym

The door slid open. I stepped in to the gym. The entire room was dimly lit, but before I could call for someone every light shined brightly. I glanced towards the end of the long room. A figure had stood there, staring deadly at the wall. I couldn't see their face. Slowly, I approached.
Only several feet away from me now. The figure quickly turned to me. He had a dark skin tone that looked well with his red jacket. His hair was dark brown and curly. His pants were long and baggy with a fair blue color. He looked serious. "Well, well, well, you're finally here". "Are you the Gym Leader?", I questioned. "Indeed. I am also who called you". "How'd you know my number"? "Some kid came by and beat me in a Pokémon battle. He told me your number saying that you might have a chance to beat me. And then he said for you to suck it. Wasn't really a nice fellow". Zack. "So, I thought you'd be a worthy challenger. Especially considering the identity of your father.", the Gym Leader exclaimed. "You know him?", I asked. "'Course I do! Your father is known by all Kymoni Gym Leaders. Even ones who battled him when he was a young trainer like you". The Gym Leader was hiding something, I felt like. "Anyways, my name is Rocky. And I am a professional with Rock type Pokémon, and no pun intended on that!", Rocky exclaimed. Rocky tossed a Pokéball into the air then caught it. "So, you think you can beat me in a Gym Battle"? I spaced out for a second. Could I win? Did I stand a chance? Perhaps. What would happened if I lost? Then, I gathered my senses back and yelled, "Yes! I challenge you to a Pokémon battle"! "So, it is". "Good luck, trainer", he said. I shivered in my head.
He threw his Pokéball to the ground, but not hard enough for it to shatter. It rolled for a moment then a spark of energy was released. "Geodude!", the Pokémon cried. It may just be a rock with arms but it sure was intimidating. And no, I don't have a phobia of rocks. I retrieved the Pokéball containing Sandshrew. "Go, Uchini!", I yelled. Sandshrew appeared in a spark of light. "Shrew"! Sandshrew stared at Geodude, it's eyes widening. It was surely terrified just as I was. "Sandshrew, use..."! I suddenly realized I had no clue what moves it actually knew. "Uhh... attack!", I called. Sandshrew tensed up. He looked determined. Sandshrew bent over to pick up pebbles. Rocky looked confused. Before I knew it, pebbles were being flung at Geodude. Great, Sandshrew learned Rock Blast. No, seriously I was confused how this was supposed to be effective. Then, the ammunition turned from pebbles to stones. Sandshrew dodged all of the punches Geodude threw until two punches landed and Sandshrew was down. Turns out it was just pulling a Foongus. Disguise as something curious or play fainted to attract an unaware predator, then finally lash at them. Geodude got close to claim the victory. Then, Sandshrew slashed out at Geodude continuously. Geodude was now down, and this time it wasn't to fool the enemy. "Wow", Rocky said. "Quite impressive for a young Pokémon". Rocky retrieved Geodude back in to it's Pokéball. "I have one last Pokémon", Rocky said while retrieving another Pokéball from his pocket. He tossed it in to the air once then caught it. "This is a Pokémon that I enjoy to use a lot, 'specially for trainers who are from around here. You probably won't encounter it yourself until you arrive in the southern part of the continent. The mountains and volcanoes there are great sights. I'm sure you'll check them out eventually. 'Till then maybe we should finish this battle". Rocky tossed the Pokéball. A small yet, almost as intimidating Pokémon popped out. "It's an Aron". Aron wasn't as scary as Geodude had been in fact Aron was rather cute. Blah, I sound like my Mom. Aron grunted, but then it sneezed. Aw. "Aron, use Headbutt"! Aron charged fiercely at Sandshrew. Sandshrew flew backwards several inches. Ow. Sandshrew has fainted. "Uh... You did well!", I exclaimed. Sandshrew half-smiled, still on the floor. Sandshrew was retrieved back to it's Pokéball. I tossed Charmander's Pokéball. Charmander appeared from the light. "Char"! Charmander roared a breath of fire at Aron without my command. Aron had been defeated in a single hit. I actually don't believe it. It was less believable then the story of a kid finding a red Gyarados in a lake. Rocky had stood jaw-dropped for a second. Charmander than shined brightly all of a sudden.
"Charmander?", I asked. Charmander's form had begun to change. "Oh, I see.", Rocky muttered. Charmander had grown taller, long claws on it's hands, a horn protruding on to top of it's head. Charmander evolved in to Charmeleon. Woah! "So, you defeated me so easily and your Pokémon evolved? That's a great way to spend your day", Rocky said. "Well, as instructed by the National Association of Pokémon Leagues, I will reward you with the official Kymon Emerald badge. And I will also reward you with a TM. A TM, or Technical Machine, is disc that contains the information to teach your Pokémon certain moves. This particular TM is for the move Headbutt. Headbutt is a move in which a Pokémon braces then charges at the target in the same turn. This has the chance to flinch the target. It can also be used to encounter Pokémon in small trees".
"I imagine this is quite the achievement for you, Trainer". "I bet it could be.", I mumbled, "How many more badges do I have to collect to face the League"? "Seven; no less and no more". Seven. Fantastic. "I guess you will be off now. Your next location is Tipico Town, just beyond Mt. Masso. There is a cave entrance towards the end of Route 4. Simply enter that and take the short, and very convenient path within the cave to get easy access to Tipico Town. You will be able to collect your next badge there". "Thanks dude". "Not a problem at all!", Rocky said, I'm sure we'll meet again in the future. Until then I'll be trainin'. Goodbye and good luck". He shook my hand generously.
I walked out of the gym, heading towards the Pokémon Center. I'd rest up for the night and tomorrow I'd make my way to the great mountain that rested on the Earth. Mt. Masso.
