Kanto: Picking Your Starter

by Joyce Xiao

Joyce Xiao If you are playing any game that has the starters: Charmander, Squirtle, and Bulbasaur, and you can't choose, you have came to the right place. This blog will determine your favorite starter to choose.
Hello! Welcome to the official "Pokemon Starter Picker"! If you couldn't decide between Charmander, Squirtle, or Bulbasaur, who would you choose? If you couldn't choose, you came to the right place. This series is not a real picker like a quiz, but a few information you need to know about each Pokemon. So lets start with the Seed Pokemon and the Grass and Poison Type Pokemon of Kanto, Bulbasaur. Bulbasaur is a decent starter Pokemon, and the only downside of it I would say honestly would be the Grass part. Luckily, it was Grass/Poison to release some weaknessess. But overall, it's the best starter for the first two gyms, and resisting the third gym. The rest of gyms aren't so bad except for Psychic, Fire, Ground, and the resistance of Grass. And a bit of Ice, Ground, and Flying types in the Elite Four and Champion. But Bulbasaur isn't a bad Pokemon to be with, and I guess to make your life easier, refuse to evolve Bulbasaur until level 20, to learn Razor Leaf early. But if you want your journey quick and simple, I'd say Bulbasaur is the right choice for you. Now for the Fire type, Charmander. Charmander to many people/trainers are the best because it evolves into a very cool Charizard that looks like a dragon. But it's the hardest to go with, loosing between the two gyms, and if you train it well, the third gym due to having it a Charizard. But Metal Claw should defeat the Rock Types, for the Water Types, you better catch a Pikachu and train it well. The third gym- just don't make it a Charizard yet. But I would recommend Charmander for people/trainers who want a hard and bumpy journey, or if you follow me, a kind of smooth journey. Your choice, because Squirtle is next on the list. Squirtle isn't bad, or good. It has the least amount of weaknesses of the three, but it's kind of hard in the first three gyms and the Grass types. Squirtle is for people that wants to go easy and hard. Squirtle is a pretty good starter, but only a few gyms are a big challenge. If you want a journey in the middle of hard (Charmander) and smooth (Bulbasaur), there you go, a Squirtle for you, congratulations.
