Zack walked up to the table, and took a deep breathe. He firmly clinged onto the fire type pokeball, and threw it into the air.
"Come on out, Torch!" Zack yelled, as the pokeball exploded open with an outburst of flames, and Torch came falling down. Zack caught him in his hands, and he happily tickled his pokemon. Torch called out, Char! char char! Charmander!
"We are going to be good friends" Zack told his new partner, setting him down. Meanwhile Gyro furiously grasped his pokeball and slammed it into the ground. Out burst a couple of leaves, and a bulbasaur materialized.
"Pathetic." Gyro announced to his pokemon. The bulbasaur frowned and quitely waddled next to his trainer.
"Fine then Zack. You think you're so great because you got the fire type. Well I will show you! I will make a team of the most powerful grass types! And they will crush you, Zack! They will crush you!" Gyro said angrily as he stormed out of the Lab, picking up a pokedex, some potions, and 5 pokeballs on the way out. Bulbasaur waddled quickly trying to catch up.
"Well I wasn't expecting that big of a tantrum from him of all people," Zack victoriously announced. He then received 5 potions, 5 pokeballs, and a pokedex. Zack thanked the professor for the items, and left the lab with Torch by his side. Zack kneeled next to his new pokemon, and cheerfully asked if was ready for the long adventure. Torch responded with, Charmandeeeerrrrrrr!!! I guess that's a yes in my book Zack said, getting up again. Just as he did, Hazel walked out of the Lab, with Bubbles by her side. Bubbles and Torch exchanged conversation, with Hazel stopped to talk to Zack.
"So Zack, are you ready for the long road ahead of us? We are going to need to be prepared for anything to make it into the Pokemon League." Hazel informed Zack. He didn't know her very well, even though they were from the same city. It was a pretty big city to be fair though.
"Yeah, I feel pretty confident heading off. Thanks for being on my side, by the way. Gyro is a real jerk." Zack commented. "Hey, even our pokemon are getting along." He said, noticing Torch and Bubbles playing. Zack felt like him and Hazel would get along nicely through his adventure, unlike Gyro.
"Well, I guess I'll see you around, and good luck on your journey." Hazel wished as she and Bubbles took off faster than expected.
"Likewise!" Zack shouted as she ran out of view. Well Torch, ready to get moving?" He asked his new partner curiously. Char char! the lizard pokemon responded. Once reaching the edge of Route 1, he was stopped by Gyro.
"Hey hey hey, what's the rush?" Gyro said with a smirk. Without even asking, he threw out bulbasaur, initiating battle.
"Woah, way to ask politely, jerk. Alright Torch, let's do this. Just because he is a grass type, don't underestimate him!" Zack warned Torch as he took his battle stance.
"Alright Blossom! Show me your worth! Get in close with tackle!" Gyro commanded. Blossom charge straight for Torch head lowered, ready to bash.
"Ok Torch dodge this attack and use scratch as it passes by!" Zack quickly countered. Torch, being much faster, easily dodged and landed a strong scratch on Blossom's side, as it tumbled on the ground. Gyro grinded his teeth.
"Curses, get up Blossom and use growl!" Attempting to prove it's worth to his trainer, Blossom fought the pain and got up, letting out a loud growl at Torch. Torch then felt a little more intimidated, and wouldn't be hitting as hard.
"Damn, alright then Torch! Let's return the favor! Use growl!" Torch then also returned a fierce growl at Blossom, and things were back to normal.
"Ok Blossom get in close!" Gyro commanded. Zack was a bit thrown off. With it's speed, it was just asking for a scratch over the head. Nevertheless, Zack wouldn't let his guard down. The seed pokemon sped in as fast as it could.
"Ok wait for it... Now Torch! Use scratch!" Zack yelled out. Torch then released a powerful scratch of it's claws right on Blossom's head. Though it managed to hang on due to it's growl lowering Torch's attack.
"Now Blossom! Use tackle at close range!" Gyro stated. He may have been cocky and not nice to his pokemon, but he had strategy, Zack gave him that. Taking one right to the gut, Torch got critically damaged. It managed to hang on however, thanks to it's counter growl. At the same time, the trainers let out their commands.
"Blossom tackle!" "Scratch, Torch!" They yelled. Charging at each other, Torch got claws ready, and Blossom charged. Then after passing each other, standing back to back, Blossom fell. Fainted.
"Woo Hoo! Way to go Torch! I knew you could do it bud." Zack said, congratulating his pokemon.
"How could this happen?! I obviously let out my command first!" Gyro complained.
"Because Torch is way faster, Gy-rotten. And besides, Torch also has a higher attack, even if speed wasn't enough. At least I research my pokemon, all you care about is strong pokemon and being the best you selfish douche." Zack insulted. He then sprayed a potion onto his charmander, healing him completely. Zack then returned Torch and walked past the defeated Gyro, onto route 1. After a lot for silence walking through route 1, he heard Gyro calling back,
"Beginners luck!" As he ran off to the lab. Zack snickered at the comment and kept pushing through route 1.
