Pokedex: It lightened and strengthened its scales with steel to compete with faster Kantoan pokemon. Its crest and beard create a frightening appearance that scares away weak opponents.

Design Notes: Alola Kommo-o appears to be based on Hawaiian dress and statues of King Kamehameha, which can have a similar color scheme. The easy switch for Kanto was to give the face the traditional fuzz and whiskers of eastern dragons, make the armor samurai-inspired, and to make the tail explicitly a khakkhara, where the Alolan forme merely resembles one. I would have liked to put more detail on the plates to make them look more like samurai armor but it would quickly outstrip the usual amount of allowed detail in the pokemon style and also exhaust my patience.
