Kaida's Travelling Circus: Kaida's Travelling Circus: Part Five

by ollijay

ollijay Kaida and Kori reach Terminus Cave.
The ride was mainly in silence. Kaida felt kind of awkward; she wasn't sure why Kori had insisted on tagging along. She hoped it wasn't because he thought she couldn't handle herself.
It was nice being up high on Mamoswine's back, taking in the sights of Route 18. They passed the strange Inverse House, and soon found themselves outside Terminus Cave.
She slid off Mamoswine's back and thudded down onto the floor, followed by Kori.
"I know you don't like battling," he said, "But we have to be prepared."
He returned Mamoswine to its Pokéball after thanking it, then summoned Glaceon instead. Reluctantly, she summoned Drifloon.
"Driiiiii!" it chirped, sounding excited to battle, but Kaida rolled her eyes.
They approached the entrance to Terminus Cave. It was typically quiet inside, but Kaida thought she could hear the faint sound of a pickaxe hitting stone.
Cautiously, they moved inside. The cave was filled with damp stalactites and stalagmites, the air thick and humid.
They heard a noise and crouched behind rocks to observe what was going on.
Kaida quickly counted: there were fifteen workers, each accompanied by a Pokémon. There were different sorts, but mainly strong, Fighting types.
In the middle of the area, a woman dressed in a long grey robe trimmed with fur and shining diamonds was yelling orders at them.
"Faster!" she barked. "The crown must be ready for my daughter's birthday!"
"That's Lady Kichona," Kori murmured, sounding surprised. "I didn't know she was so- so-" he struggled to find the right word.
"Cruel?" Kaida suggested.
Kori nodded.
"I'm going to confront her," the young girl said, making up her mind. Before her companion could even react, she had stood up and revealed her location.
"Stop this now!" she called.
Lady Kichona turned and levelled her with a disgusted look. "Who are you, and what are you doing here?"
"I'm Kaida. I'm here to rescue all these people and Pokémon! You can't use them as slaves!"
Lady Kichona laughed without humour. "Darling, don't be ridiculous. They're not slaves, they're working for me."
That threw Kaida off a little, but by that time, Kori had stood up too.
"You're not paying them, and they have no time to eat or sleep," he shouted, giving her a chance to deny it. She didn't.
"I need those jewels!" Lady Kichona screeched. "It's for my daughter! Don't you understand? I'd do anything to make her happy. Her birthday is next week!"
"So look for the jewels yourself," Kaida countered. "These people are so intimidated by you that you're forcing them into unfair work."
Lady Kichona snorted. "It doesn't matter what you think," she said derisively. "What are you going to do about it?"
Kaida glanced at Kori, who nodded determinedly.
"Drifloon!" she shouted. "Use Astonish!"
Caught off guard, Lady Kichona only had a second to dodge the attack. "Carbink!" she shrieked, throwing out a Pokéball.
Kaida appealed to the rest of the workers to use their Pokémon against their "boss". But only a couple of them came to help...
"Help me, you idiots!" the rich woman screamed. Six of the workers commanded their Pokémon to attack. Kori's Glaceon was hit by a Brick Break from a Gurdurr, and the supereffective move was close to taking it out.
"Glaceon!" Kori cried worriedly. He shook his head. "My Ice-type Pokémon are weak to Fighting moves, Kaida. You should use Drowzee, it has the advantage with Psychic!"
"Right, I knew that," Kaida muttered. She told Drifloon to use Ominous Wind on an enemy Machop, while she summoned Drowzee.
"Drowwwww," it said seriously.
One of their allies had a Machoke, which was making quick work of any Rock type Pokémon that were also being used, such as Boldore and Graveler.
"Drowzee, use Psychic!" Kaida said, voice shaking a little. She really didn't want Drowzee to get hurt.
Her Pokémon obeyed and the move instantly fainted the Gurdurr. Both Kori and Kaida cheered.
"Great job, Drowzee!"
"Droooooowzee!"
Lady Kichona instructed her Carbink to use Rock Throw on Drifloon, who wasn't able to dodge the attack in time.
"No!" Kaida shouted in anguish. She ran forward to catch the falling Pokémon, who had been fainted by the super effective move.
She suddenly felt lost and upset; one of her partners had been hurt and it was all her fault.
"Come on Kaida!" Kori yelled. "You have to keep fighting!"
Their ally's Machoke used Submission on an enemy Onix, then another ally's Poliwrath used Dynamic Punch to finish it off. Now, only Lady Kichona's Carbink, a Pancham, and a Hitmonlee were left.
Kaida passed Drifloon to Kori who was going to use a Revive on it for her.
"Drowzee, use Psybeam on Hitmonlee!"
The move was supereffective on the Pokémon and knocked it out. Smiling, Kaida patted Drowzee's head.
The Pancham used Crunch on Drowzee, who was caught out by the hit and stumbled backwards. It managed to stay on its feet, even though the supereffective move had lowered its HP a lot.
Glaceon used Ice Fang on the Pancham, which didn't have much effect. Their ally's Machoke used Seismic Toss, which lowered its HP even further. Finally, the Poliwrath was able to finish it off with Waterfall.
Carbink used Moonblast on the Machoke which almost knocked it out, bowling it over and forcing it to take some time to recover.
Their ally's Poliwrath used Bubble Beam on the Carbink which was super effective. The Carbink fainted, and they had defeated Lady Kichona and their allies.
"What about the rest of you?!" she shrieked at the workers who hadn't got involved. They stared at her, no one responding.
Kaida looked to see which of the workers had been helping them. There was a tall, muscular girl with short, black Afro hair, to whom the Machoke belonged, and someone- no offence, but she couldn't figure out if it was a boy or girl, although they were definitely very beautiful, who'd helped with Poliwrath.
"Thank you!" Kaida smiled warmly at them.
"No," the girl shook her head. "Thank you."
"You can all leave now," Kori called. "Lady Kichona won't be threatening anyone else any time soon."
The rich old lady bristled at that comment, clutching her fainted Carbink, who Kaida felt quite sorry for.
One by one, the workers started to file out of the cave with their Pokémon. Some of them were grateful. The ones who'd battled as the enemy looked quite embarrassed.
Kaida ran over and took Drifloon back off Kori.
"I'm so sorry," she whispered to the Pokémon, cuddling it close. "I shouldn't have let you get hurt."
"Floon," Drifloon said, sounding quite flippant. Kaida let out a watery laugh.
She turned back to their allies.
"I'm Kaida, and this is Kori," she introduced herself. "Anistar City's Gym Leader told me you guys were in trouble."
"Then we'll need to thank her too. My name is Tsuyoi, and this is Kanari. Lady Kichona told us that if we didn't mine the jewels for her, then she would say we stole from her and cast us out of our home."
Kori huffed. "That is terrible," he remarked.
"I was able to keep some of the jewels I mined today," Kanari shrugged as they all left the cave and Lady Kichona with it. "It's not so bad."
Tsuyoi laughed. "Yes, Mama will be happy with these."
Kaida looked them over. "Um. Are you two related?"
"We're brother and sister," Tsuyoi answered abruptly, as though she had been asked that many times. At least it solved the mystery as to Kanari's gender.
"Sorry," Kaida mumbled.
"We can take you back to your home," Kori said. "I have a Mamoswine we can ride which will make the journey much shorter. Where do you live?"
"It's alright," Kanari smiled. "We live in Couriway Town, it's not that far away. Thank you so much for helping us. Are you living in Anistar? We can come and visit when we thank the Anistar Gym Leader."
Kaida glanced at Kori, who said, "We'd like that. We'll see you soon, then."
They all bid their goodbyes. On the journey home, the pair were a lot more talkative.
"I feel good about that. We helped those people a lot," Kaida commented. She looked up at the sky from Mamoswine's back. It was dark, cloudless and covered in stars.
"Yes," Kori agreed. "We did a good thing."
"How did you meet Mamoswine?" she asked out of curiosity.
He laughed. "In much the same way I met you. Wandering in the snow. He was somewhat hostile towards me... but Glaceon helped to capture him."
Kaida smiled. Kori sounded fond of the memory.
"I'm glad I met Mamoswine," he said, then cleared his throat. "And you," but a lot more quietly.
When they arrived home, Torikku and Toraburu were waiting in front of the fire with Roserade Tea waiting for them.
"We had such a great day!" Torikku shouted. "Mr. Mime beat a Trainer's Machop!"
Kaida congratulated the said Pokémon who was lounging in a chair almost as though it was human.
"Olympia said we should work there full time!" Toraburu added excitedly. It was great news.
"That's awesome, guys. You must be really good Trainers!" Kaida exclaimed.
Mr. Mime made an indignant noise, causing them all to laugh.
"Now let me tell you about our day..." Kori began.
