(Note: I actually like journey fics, and I’ve written one myself, if you’ve seen my series about Daniel on my fanfiction account, BadKitty17, but they all start the same. Can we get an opening that doesn’t involve the main character getting up, saying goodbye to their parents, going to the laboratory, and getting a lab starter? Or, the oh-so-cliche, Oh-shit-I-woke-up-late-so-I-can’t-get-a-lab-starter-but-it’s-ok-cuz-I-got-some-other-desirable-pokemon-instead? THANK YOU. This was partly why I came up with the gym-leaders-give-out-starters-relative-to-their-type mechanic in Nita. I’ll stop rambling now and let you get on with the story XD)
I woke up one sunny morning, said bye to my mum, had some generic unhealthy breakfast, and rushed down to Professor Oak’s lab. I was sooooo excited to get my starter! Which one will I choose? It totally isn’t going to be charmander, or pikachu! That would be cliché, and boring, and neither of those pokemon suit me! It’s not like the authour is just picking pokemon that seem cool, and not thinking about which ones would really be best for me, is it?
I got to the lab, and then Professor Oak said hi, and gave me my pokedex, and then I instantly chose charmander. We became best buddies right on the spot!
Then, I was walking to Pewter City, with my new best buddy, Charmander, when suddenly, a rival appeared! Dun dun dun! He challenged me to a battle! With his bulbasaur! So, being the hero, and a user of a fire type pokemon, I won, and we went onto Pewter City. We caught some random other pokemon, but they don’t matter, for now. I got an eevee, and a pikachu, and a froakie, because the authour---I mean, I---Really wanted a froakie, even though they are not native to Kanto, I don’t need or deserve a froakie, and no explanation was ever given as to why I found and caught it. I think the authour just wants me to have a greninja so he looks cool---I mean, I look cool.
On with the journey! I got some travel buddies, who have different goals to me so they can’t compete with me, thus preventing any interesting things, like tension, or rivalry happening between our main characters, because we can’t have that. Fite gem, get badge, you know the drill.
Then I became the champion and my travel buddies did their shit, but who cares about that? The end.
