Born and raised in Hearthome in the Sinnoh region, Maddy has always had a close connection to ghost type pokemon. Her parents were friends with Fantina, and she dreamed of becoming a ghost type trainer when she was older. Soon enough, she became an Elite Four member of her favorite type.

Because of her kindness and hospitality, many wild ghost type pokemon visited her and followed her around. Maddy fed them and cared for them, despite them not being parts of her team. The wild pokemon annoyed one of Maddy’s fellow Elite Four members, Jon, as they always ended up in his room and scared him. Because she enjoyed annoying Jon mercilessly, she often sent her Gengar, Nightmare, to scare Jon as well.

Three years have passed, and Maddy has been a member of the Elite Four for some time now. Ghost type pokemon still visit her, as well as human ghosts! Maddy has found that she can see and communicate with ghosts, and they often come to her for help or for someone to talk to. Her powers can be quite volatile however, so she needs to wear a brooch that helps to keep them from overwhelming her. Maddy is still the final Elite Four member for challengers to face before taking on the Champion of the Sinnoh region - Cynthia.
