"I AM DR. ATOMIC!" the madman cackled.
"What kind of a name is that?" Silver Skull scoffed, "Am I supposed to be afraid of a PhD?"
Dr. Atomic turned, and thrust his arms towards Silver Skull. Red beams shot at Silver Skull, and he was flung back against a pizza parlor.
"This guy means business," Eric said, covering the hole in his visor so no one could see his exposed eye.
"So do we," Samantha growled, hovering above the ground.

ONE HOUR EARLIER...
Eric groaned as his vision began to blur. He tried to claw at something, but he wasn't sure what the something was. What had just happened. Where was he? Who was he? Athw reew dorws? Eric shook his head. What had just thought? Had he forgotten how to ihntk? Think. Think, not ihntk. He collapsed, but in a slow manner, as if he were stuck in a world of molasses. Eric thought of the spelling of molasses. One could see it and think "mole asses". Eric giggled like a child, then dropped. He was out stone cold.
Well, not quite.
He stood on a gray plane. Not an airplane. A 2-Dimensional plane. He was in a dream state. He spun his fingers in a circle, and gray wisps clumped around them. He flicked his fingers outward, and the wisps dispersed. He felt like a child. He continued playing with these wisps for a good three days. Well, that's what it felt like in the dream. He figured that in reality, he had only been out for ten minutes. Maybe fifteen. Possibly twenty. Nah. Fifteen.
Suddenly, the gray plane rippled like waves, and the dreamscape transformed. He was surrounded by tall skeletons in black cloaks. But each skeleton was made out of silver.
"See you there," all of the skeletons hissed in unison. The dreamscape settled in a location. Hell. Black obsidian gates surrounded Eric, and flames danced around. A man walked forward. He had neat black hair, and a handsome smile. Jason Locke.
"I told you I'd see you here," Jason smiled, cruelly.
"I would say go to hell, but we're already here."
"Does your vocabulary consist of only 'go to hell'?" Jason questioned, "Do tell. I'm curious."
"I'm not going to respond to your taunts. You're not even real."
"Excuse me?" Jason looked shocked. Offended.
"You're just part of my dream," Eric smiled, "Which means..."
Eric snapped, and Jason shimmered out of existence.
"I can do that."
Suddenly, Eric snapped awake. He saw Samantha looking down at him. She had taken him back to their base. He had been out for forty-three minutes.
"Are you okay?" Samantha asked.
"I-I think so," Eric nodded, "I don't remember much of what happened."
"You went off to fight Silver Skull, and when I found you, you had a tranquilizer dart in your forehead."
Suddenly, everything came rushing back to Eric. He had battled Silver Skull, but he managed to turn his tranquilizer dart against him.
"I need to get back out there and capture Silver Skull," Eric growled.
"Every time you say that you end up hurt," Samantha pointed out, "Plus, I need to repair your visor. Otherwise, people might see your eye."
"So?"
"Eyes give away everything."
"Fine," Eric huffed.

Silver Skull was resting beneath a tree, twirling his two pistols. It had been fifty-one minutes since he had taken down the Midnight Owl. Eric Lange. He'd surely be in police custody by now. Suddenly, he saw a bright red flash in the distance. Then, a shockwave tore through him, and he collapsed.
"What the-" he began, but his voice trailed off. A veil of red and gold surrounded the city. No matter what Midnight Owl and Flare thought, he still wanted to keep Nova City safe. And this didn't look safe. He jogged over to the side of the road, and jumped on the hood of the first car that drove by. A beige car that looked like it was from the 80's. He hopped into the car, flinging the driver out. He sped towards the city.

Eric and Samantha flew over Nova City, which was a strange red tint. They hadn't had time to repair his visor before they had seen the strange red explosion. Now, they spotted the source of the explosion. A tall man with a red suit coat, black slacks, and a gold helmet that was surrounded by what looked like an atom. He had blue rings surrounding his arms. Eric and Samantha landed right in front of him, and saw Silver Skull pull up in an old car. He stepped out, and shot Eric a nasty glare.
"So, who are you?" Samantha asked, taking charge of the situation.
She sent blasts of flames towards Dr. Atomic, but he waved his arms, deflecting the blaze. He shot red beams towards Samantha, but Samantha flew out of the way. Eric raised his left arm, the one not covering his visor, and fired missiles at Dr. Atomic. Dr. Atomic closed his eyes, and the golden atom around his head expanded, and caught the missiles in its rotation. It flung them back at Eric, and sent him flying back, and landing next to Silver Skull.
"Long time no see," Silver Skull grunted.
"I really do hate you."
"You heroes," Dr. Atomic shook his head, disapprovingly, "That's what you call yourself. But you can't even defeat me. I have no powers. Simply the technology I developed. But I can give people powers at will. I can create an army of Alpha Humans. After today, you won't be so special. Everyone will be and Alpha Human. So what sets you apart from them?"
"I don't care about being special," Samantha scoffed, "I care about keeping this city safe!"
"Very well," Dr. Atomic shrugged. The golden atom around his head grew, then exploded into a shower of gold.
Ariados twice likes this.
