Landon's Adventures (Origins): Chapter 6: Second Stage Sensation

by PyroGaleZX

PyroGaleZX After completing his first stage performance, Landon finds out that he has moved on to the second stage but a trainer from Floaroma Town stands in his way. Will Landon come out on top and move on to the next round?
Landon returned backstage after his performance, "I can't believe I entered a contest," he commented nervously as he walked with his partner Mizu, who patted his knee to assure him that they did fine.

The contest continued with coordinators presenting with different Pokemon in beautiful ways that would leave the crowd speechless, which didn't help Landon feel any better.

"Ladies and gentlemen, we've been seeing amazing performances by both trainer and their Pokemon today, and without further ado, here are the trainers moving on to the second stage," the announcer declared as she directed everyone's attention to the screen hanging above the stage. Backstage there was a screen which aloud everyone to see what the performances looked like. The screens began to show the pictures of different coordinators, Landon waited patiently as the pictures continued to appear until finally he saw his picture appear at the very end.

"We did it," he sighed with relief as Mizu jumped into his lap with a smile. Landon was happy that he made it to the second stage but when he saw only 16 coordinators had made it to the second stage the pressure quickly set in, he'd have to work hard to win.

"Hey Mizu, I think I'm going to use Bronz for the Second Stage," he commented, Mizu nodded in agreement as it hopped off of Landon's lap ready to cheer him on. Before Landon's round he was able to watch the different coordinators going to the second stage and from what he had gathered it was just a normal Pokemon Battle.

"Alright and now for our next round, it's Landon from Twinleaf Town versus Kate from Floaroma Town," the announcer announced. Landon took his place on the stage facing a girl with a white dress, long brown hair and green shoes.

"Roserade, the stage is yours!" Kate called as she threw her Pokeball into the air releasing her a Pokemon with a green body, white hair, and red and blue flowers on it's arms.

"What Pokemon is that?" Landon muttered as he took out his Pokedex. ’Roserade, the Bouquet Pokemon. With the movements of a dancer, it strikes with whips that are densely lined with poison thorns.’ Landon put his Pokedex back into his pocket before taking out his Pokeball, “Alright Bronz let’s go!”

As Bronz burst out of the Pokeball, Landon noticed that the scoreboard that hung above them had two yellow circles above it along with a 5 minute timer.

“Alright Roserade begin with Magical Leaf!” Kate commanded, Roserade summoned some multi-colored leaves and fired them all at Bronz.

“Dodge it!” Landon called in response, Bronz ducked under the Magical Leaf but before they could react the Magical Leaf came straight back hitting Bronz in the back. “Nice attack but Grass-attacks aren’t very effective against a steel-type like my Bronzor!” Landon smirked but when he looked up he notice that part of his circle had turned black.

“A Pokemon Contest is about more than just attacking head on, dodging, blocking, and showing your Pokemon off is more important!” Kate replied with a smirk of her own, “Now Roserade use Sunny Day and follow it up with Weather Ball!” Roserade smiled as it raised it’s two flower covered arms releasing pollen into the air that seemed to intensify the sun’s rays. Roserade quickly followed up by summoning a ball of fire and shooting it at Bronz causing major damage to it.

“Bronz!” Landon cried out when the attack made contact, while Grass-Type attacks weren’t very effective Fire-Type attacks were.

“Do you like my Sunny Day, Weather Ball combination?” Kate asked as she watched Landon’s half of Landon’s circle turn black.

“We’re not done yet, Bronz use Psybeam!” Landon cried out with his fists clenched. Bronz’s eyes glowed for a moment before firing at multi-colored beam of light straight at Roserade.

“Block with Poison Sting!” Kate ordered, Roserade quickly fired some poisonous pins out of it’s flowers straight at Bronz causing an explosion and a cloud of smoke to form.

“Now use Gyro Ball!” Bronz quickly coated itself in a layer of metal before spinning straight through the cloud of smoke and scoring a direct hit on Roserade as both side’s circles grew black. Landon looked to see he was almost out, “Alright let’s wrap this up, Bronz use Psy-”

Landon was abruptly interrupted by a loud horn, it signified that both sides were out of time and that the battle was over. Landon looked to the screen to see that Kate’s circle was only a quarter black, while his was four fifths filled in.

“And time’s up, so the coordinator moving on will be Kate, from Floaroma Town!” the crowd cheered at the sound of Kate being declared the winner, Landon smiled as a show of good sportsmanship but he couldn’t help but feel saddened by the fact that he had lost.

“You battled well, but your Bronzor didn’t seem to know what it was doing,” Kate mentioned as she approached Landon.

“This was it’s second battle since I caught it, so it we aren’t the best quite yet,” Landon replied as he and Bronz exchanged a look of embarrassment.

“Okay, well here’s a tip for any future contests, that yellow circle represents your points, when it turns black that represents you losing points,” Kate explained, before the two shook hands as a sign of good sportsmanship.

Landon stayed to watch the rest of the contest unfold, seeing different trainers using various Pokemon in different styles.

After several battles the contest had reached it’s final stage, with Kate battling a trainer know called Hale from Veilstone City. Hale was using a Bidoof, while Kate was using a chimp-like Pokemon with a flame on it’s rear end that she called a Chimchar. Landon quickly pulled out his Pokedex to scan the Pokemon even though he felt he had seen it before.

'Chimchar, the Chimp Pokemon. It is very agile. Before going to sleep, it extinguishes the flame on its tail to prevent fires.'

“Chimchar use Scratch!” Kate ordered, Chimchar began slashing at Bidoof with it’s hands, causing Hale’s points to slowly drop.

“Bidoof, use Hyper Fang!” Hale responded, Bidoof’s buck teeth grew huge as it prepared to attack Chimchar but Kate seemed to be ready for it.

“Chimchar, use Ember!” Chimchar jumped back and quickly fired small embers into Bidoof’s mouth that resulted in Bidoof being knocked out and Hale losing the last of her points.

“And that’s it, the winner of the Jubilife City Pokemon Contest is Kate from Floaroma Town!” The crowd cheered at the sound of Kate’s name as she was presented a small ribbon and a Pokemon egg that was pink with a red stripe. It wasn’t much longer until the entire stadium was empty and evening had hit. Landon decided to wait outside for Kate to congratulate her on the win.

“Congratulations on the win Kate,” Landon exclaimed as he extended his hand.

“Thanks Landon, you did alright,” Kate smirked, as she held onto her egg, “Landon, if it’s alright with you, I’d like you to have the Pokemon Egg.”

“Why me,” Landon questioned, “I lost in the first round and it’s not like I gave you the best battle.”

“True, but I feel like you’ll be able to connect better with a Pokemon that you raised from an egg, and it would help you become a better trainer,” Kate explained as she handed him the egg and ran off.

Landon stared at the egg for a moment and decided it would be better if he didn’t question Kate’s reasoning for giving him the egg, seeing as she ran off without a word.

“Alright, next stop is Oreburgh City!” Landon declared.
