“What do you think happened?”

“It looks like a battle. Look at his Pokemon. They’re pretty beaten up.”

“Yeah, but what kind of battle was that intense that it even wipes out the losing trainer.”

“Well it must have happened. Just look at him.”

“Maybe it was a Mega Pokemon, or a Legendary.”

“C’mon Kati. Don’t be stupid.”

“Well no matter what happened. It must have been a strong Pokemon.”

“Or a reckless one.”

“Wait, look. He’s waking up.”

Ry awoke feeling sore all over. The first thing he saw was two people in front of him. One was a girl, who looked a bit older than him, while the other was a middle aged woman. They were both wearing black pants, with a grey polo shirt. Before he could ask the question of where he was, the girl quickly spoke.

“What happened? Who are you? Did you fight a Legendary?” Her questions were shooting out at a rapid speed, until the other woman placed her hand on her right shoulder.

“Calm down, Kati. Give him a chance to regain his senses. My name Gwen and this is daughter Kati. We found you out on Route 15, beaten up and injured.” The woman said.

Ry glanced down and the shape he was in. He was topless and was wearing his boxers. His stomach, upper arms, and calves were wrapped tightly with white bandages. “Where’s my Pokemon. And where am I?”

Gwen smiled warmly, trying to comfort the frantic boy. “Relax. Both your Monferno and Poliwag are safe. They’re fully recovered and are just resting now. As for where we are, I welcome you to the Cafe Cabin.”

“My Poliwag?” Ry asked, dumbfounded. Then it hit him like a ton of bricks. “That's not my Poliwag,” he stated shocking the two people.

“What do you mean, it's not yours. Did you steal it? Why would you steal another person’s pokemon. What's wrong with you. You're worse than that evil team that disbanded years ago. What were they called? Team Galactic! Oh wait, are you are ex-member of Team Galactic. I can't believe you!” Kati went off into a rant, while Gwen stood there smiling awkwardly. It was obvious she didn't have the same suspicions, but with Kati was making it so Gwen couldn't respond.

“Kati, right? Listen, it's a wild Poliwag. A guy was battling him and going to far. I had to intervene and me and Fuego, that Monferno over there, lost.” Ry shouted overlapping Kati’s rant. By the time Ry had finished, Kati had quieted down enough to hear.

“So that guy who you battled was a bad guy. Maybe he was an ex-member of Team Galactic!” Kati exclaimed. Ry and Gwen both gave a sigh.

“Kati, it probably wasn't a Team Galactic member. He was probably just fighting a jerk. Not everyone thinks of Pokemon as their friends.” Gwen said giving another sigh.

“Anyways, can I see Fuego and the Poliwag. I wanna make sure they're okay by my own eyes.” Ry said trying to get up from off the table he had been laying on. He swung his legs outward and stood up, feeling sore all over.

“They’re right in here,” Gwen said opening a door to her left to reveal a table where the forms of a sleeping Monferno and Poliwag laid, softly snoring. The boy approached the two sleeping Pokemon, and felt a pang of sorrow for the Poliwag. He obviously didn’t want what had happened. He was forced into it by the asshole Dennis.

Ry made a fist as he thought about Dennis. That guy was so smug and yet Ry had lost so horribly to him. “I can’t believe I lost to that guy,” Ry mumbled punching the door frame.

Gwen stood a few feet behind Ry and her mouth was shut. She could tell the boy was taking his loss poorly. “Hey don’t,” Kati tried to scowled Ry for punching the door, but Gwen covered her mouth quickly.

“Let him work this out.” Gwen mouthed, giving Kati a solemn glare. He needed to solve this on his own.

At the sudden impact of the door, the echo aroused Fuego from sleep. The Monferno opened his eyes wearily and gave Ry a faint smile and a thumbs up. Tears were now visible in Ry’s eyes. The boy returned the thumbs up with his own and the two shared a nod.

“I need service in here!” A deep voice echoed through the small cabin. Gwen turned to see a large bulking man at the front counter. Beside him was a Sudowoodo who stood there straight glaring ahead.

“I”m sorry, we’re closed right now,” Gwen said walking over. She pointed towards the door and said, “Please leave, and we will be open tomorrow.”

The man gave a sick smile and snapped his fingers. Sudowoodo swung his arm and delivered a powerful Hammer Arm onto the counter. A large crash filled the cabin, and awoke the Poliwag, while getting Fuego and Ry’s attention, who were out of sight in the back room. Kati in a swift motion shut the door, locking them in. “You see, I’m not here to buy. I’m here to take. I want all of your money.” The man shouted in his naturally gruff voice. ‘You can either give it to me, or Rocky over here will help me take it.”

Ry’s entire body tensed up. It was a robbery. He immediately tried the door, but Kati had locked it. Part of him, demanded he screamed to be let loose. But then he would only get involved. They were trying to keep him out of this. He stood by the door, clenched his fists, and gritted his teeth, not moving.

“Fuego, can you fight?” Ry asked turning to face his partner. The Fire Monkey gave a nod, and Ry knew what to do. “Poliwag, stay here. Fuego, Mach Punch! Knock down this door!” The Monferno leapt off the table and smashed his fist against the wooden door, punching a hole through it. When Fuego moved his arm, Ry stuck his hand through it to unlock the door. By the time he exited the room, the robber had a large sack full of money stolen from the register. Kati and Gwen were across the room, being pinned down by a chunk of wood that had once been a table.

The man gave a chuckle at the young boy’s arrival. “Really kid? You wanna play hero. Well, I’m going to end this quick. Suko, Rock Tomb!” The Sudowoodo spread his arms and slammed them into the wooden floor, smashing the ground. Then medium sized rocks busted through the floor, destroying the once nice wooden floor, sending splinters in all directions. Then, the stones flew towards Ry and Fuego.

Two rocks slammed into Ry and Fuego’s stomach, each knocking them back into a wall. Ry pushed the stone off of himself and stood up. Fuego smashed the rock with his fist and stood beside his trainer.

“Wanna play rough. Okay, Mach Punch!” Ry was quick to give a command, before making a charge towards the burglar while Fuego charged the Sudowoodo. Ry raised his fist and tried to deliver a punch to the side of the man’s head. However the man was quick to sidestep and kneed the boy in the stomach, causing him to collapse onto the ground.

“Suko! Mimic!” The man gave a sneer as his attack was called out. The Sudowoodo gave a grin, as he faced the charging Monferno. The Fire Monkey’s fist was glowing with a white light, and Suko’s eyes scanned the Fire and Fighting Type. Then his right club like fist, glowed with the same type of white light, and raised it in the air, deflecting the attack The Mach Punches slammed against one another, and Fuego was knocked back. The Monferno was still recovering from the fight with the Gyarados.

Ry slammed his palms down and tried to get up, grunting with strain in his voice. “You bastard!” Ry said, clenching his teeth, as the man slammed his foot against Ry’s back, smashing him against the ground.

“Suko. Hammer Arm!” Suko gave a chuckle and raised his arm, with it now glowing entirely with a bright white light. He then brought it down, onto Fuego’s body, as the Monferno laid sprawled across the floor.

“Poli!” A light voice squeaked from across the room as a stream of high pressure bubbled flew across the room, and slammed into the center of Suko’s chest. It was a Super Effective, Bubble Beam attack! Everyone in the room seemed to be shocked by the sudden attack. From the back room that Ry had emerged from, hopped out a Poliwag, who was looking quite flustered and angry.

“What the hell is a weak pokemon like this doing here?” The man shouted angrily at the arrival. However Ry knew first hand that weak Pokemon could be strong. He had watched countless gym battles and Maylene had lost to trainers who seemed to be a horrid choice at first glance. However often times they overcame Maylene’s Fighting Types to win a badge, so Ry knew that it was possible.

“Poliwag! I need your help! We have to defeat this man. Will you lend me your power!” Is what Ry wanted to say to the small Water Type. However the second he shouted the Water Pokémon’s name, he was given a boot to the back.

This only upset the Poliwag further. It opened it’s mouth and sent out another barrage of bubbles, so Ry asked it was a Bubble Beam. The bubbles seems to go in a wider, less straight path then the previous attack. Bubbles crashed into Suko, making the Pokemon fall onto his back, while bubbled flew in the burglar’s face. He waved them away, and that was the opening Ry needed.

He slammed his palms down once more, pushing his back up, and causing the man to lose his balance. From there, Ry rolled away from the man. “Why you little-“ but he was cut short by a stream of Water to the face, from a Water Gun Attack delivered by the Poliwag.

Ry pushed himself to his feet, and wiped away form blood from the corner of his lip, before making his way towards Fuego and the Poliwag, helping the Monferno stand. “Poliwag, can we team up. Fuego’s beat up and he’s my only Pokemon left. I won’t be able to do this alone.” Poliwag gave Ry a nod of approval, and Ry gave a chuckle. “Poliwag! Use Bubble Beam on Suko!” The little Water type whipped his head forward and let loose a flurry of bubbles that crashed into the Rock type, casing him to tumble back.

“Now, Hypnosis on the both of them!” Ry’s command was too quick for the man to react, and he was quickly put to sleep by spinning purple rings from the Poliwag’s belly, along with his Sudowoodo. “Thanks a lot Poliwag,” Ry said rubbing the Water Pokémon’s head. “You should get going. Head on home.” However the Tadpole Pokemon shook his head furiously. Ry smiled. “Would you like to come with me?” The Poliwag gave a nod, and Ry raised an empty Pokeball from his belt. He tapped the Pokemon, and the button was pressed. Then he shifted into red light and went inside the ball. It gave three shakes and a chime.

“I’ll name you Splashy. Cause when I met you, you were splashing around a lot.” Ry gave a smile as he returned Fuego to his Pokeball too.

Ry spent a week with Kati and Gwen, recovering and helping rebuild the small cafe. The burglar had been arrested soon after his defeat thanks to a call to the Veilstone Police Department. Splashy soon became part of the family, making it a trio with him, Ry and Fuego. And now it was time to head off to Solaceon.

“Kati, Gwen. Thanks for everything.” Ry said as he stepped out of the small cafe. At his feet were Fuego and Splashy, who were looking eager.

“It’s no problem. You returned the favor stopping that robber.” Gwen said shaking the boy’s outstretched hand.

“We decided to give you something. Here is a case of Moomoo Milk. We order them from Johto for some of our recipes. It’s good to cook with and both Pokemon and people love it.” Kati said, handing him a small box filled with six bottles filled with white liquid.

“Thank you,” Ry said to the both of them, before taking his leave. Next stop, Hearthome, where he would challenge Fantina. But that's for another day, as the journey continues.
