Auvenan Lore: Chapter 2: Old folklore

by SharpShotInteleon

SharpShotInteleon Old stories and beliefs told and believed by the residents of cities, towns and villages across the region of Auvena.
The story of the Puppetears

This particular story is told as a way to scare unruly children straight, a bogeyman of sorts. Its roots seem to stem from the secluded seaside village of hermit‘s reef, but is now told across the region. The story goes as follows:

Once upon a time, there was a small, purple ragdoll that sat on a naughty child’s shelf and watched them whenever the child was rude to their parents, judging them. One day, however, the rude child tore off the arm of the doll, after arguing with their mum and dad.

This made the doll very upset, so, when the child had gone to sleep, the little doll crawled across the floor and climbed under the child’s bed. With it’s only arm, the doll began scratching under the bed. This made the mean child very scared, so, leaning under the bed, they accidentally looked into the doll’s eyes.

However, this allowed the purple doll to hypnotise the rude child, and swap places with them, trapping the child in the little doll. Now, it is said that if you’re rude to your parents, that doll will climb under your bed too.

At this point, some parents would a place a similar purple doll on a nearby shelf of the child’s room, however this is seen as cruel to others.

Guardian Angels

In the large, if old city of Wintersun, it is believed that there a pair of twin Pokemon that watch over the city, two opposing forces; one with control over the flames and heat, the other with control over the frost and the cold. It is said that, despite these two Pokemon’s opposing forces, they will hand together if the city, or the region for that matter is threatened.

There is a religion that, though it originated and is widely believed only in Wintersun, there are those outside of the city’s walls that believe in it. Widely known as the ‘Guardian angels’, this religion is devoted to worship over these two opposing Pokemon, and the Pokemon that supposedly symbolises these two opposites' union, Dupleviper.

This religion, whilst not as prevalent as Arceus founding, the belief that the alpha Pokemon is the only divine being, has seeped into other parts of the region's culture, with the gym leaders and partners Yuki and Kosuke both being devout worshipers of the angels, using weaker versions of the angels on their teams, those being Flaumen and Floemen.
