Marshadow the Spectral Warrior: Chapter 1: Soljair City

by PyroGaleZX

PyroGaleZX After hearing about the Legend of Marshadow, Landon and Lyra make their way towards Soljair City to find out more about the legend, primarily with the Zenith Flame.
“And that’s the story of Zenith,” a voice stated from the deck of a cruise ship. The voice came from a girl called Lyra. Lyra was 16 and, wore a red shirt and blue overalls, she had brown hair that was in two pigtails.

“Wow, that is horrifying,” another voice replied, beside Lyra was a boy who was also 16 named Landon. Landon wore an orange T-Shirt and blue jeans, with a small pink stone hanging from a small chain around his neck. “So remind me why we’re heading out to this city again?”

“I’d like to gather some information for Professor Rowan on the town’s history, mostly about the Zenith Flame,” Lyra replied. Lyra was from New Bark Town in the Johto Region, however a few years ago she moved with her aunt and uncle to Solaceon Town and began working for Professor Rowan as an assistant.

“Okay, sounds fun,” Landon replied as he grabbed his small pink stone. Landon was a trainer from Twinleaf Town in the Sinnoh Region after receiving his first Pokemon from Professor Rowan, he’s been travelling for quite a few years since then. The stone around Landon’s neck was known as a Keystone, and when used with a Pokemon’s Mega Stone is able to trigger Mega Evolution.

When the ship had reached the docks Landon and Lyra were quick to get off. The docks were connected to a large island. Landon stared at a large stone wall and guessed that was Soljair City. Landon and Lyra began walking towards Soljair City and were there before they knew it.

Soljair City was huge, every house seemed to be made of stone bricks and cement. Landon and Lyra continued to walk through the town until they were faced with a large iron snake Pokemon.

“Look at the size of that Steelix,” Lyra commented. Landon looked closely at the Pokemon and could not see a difference in size.

“It looks like a regular Steelix,” Landon muttered quietly, however it seemed pointless as Lyra quickly caught on to his comment.

“Of course you’d say that,” Lyra sighed, as she took out a small notebook, “You see every Steelix, is approximately 30’02” while this Steelix seems much closer to 31’06” and that’s not the only thing, do you see its coat, now Steelix harden the metal on their bodies…” Lyra continued to talk as Landon nervously nodded silently in agreement, when it came to Pokemon, Lyra seemed to always notice even the smallest of things.

“I see you’ve taken a notice to my Steelix,” a manly voice called out, Landon and Lyra turned to see a man, he seemed to be in his late 50’s, he wore a brown vest, blue cargo pants, around his neck was a grey stone that held a Keystone similar to Landon’s.

“You’re Steelix is one of the largest I’ve seen,” Lyra stated, “How did you get its coat to be so durable and smooth?” The man shrugged and couldn’t think of an answer.

“Hey that around your neck it’s a Keystone isn’t it?” Landon asked.

“Yes it is, and Steelix here is my faithful partner,” the man answered as Steelix lowered its head, revealing a blue and grey stone.

“That’s Steelixite,” Lyra commented as she flipped to a blank page in her notebook and began writing a few notes.

“My name is Gunther, I’m a resident of Soljair City,” the man stated, Landon stared at the Mega Stone for a moment before feeling his shoulder being tapped.

“Landon maybe you should introduce your partners,” Lyra whispered, Landon nodded as he took out three Pokeballs and tossed them high into the air. The Pokeballs opened as flashes of light hit the ground revealing three Pokemon, a Blaziken, a Dusk Form Lycanroc, and a Gulpin.

“These are my partners,” Landon said as he gestured them, “Gul the Gulpin, Dusk the Lycanroc, and Spike the Blaziken,” Landon’s Pokemon all greeted Gunther cheerfully, Gunther smiled as his attention was drawn to a metal brace around Spike’s leg, that was holding a yellow, red and black stone.

“Your Blaziken is capable of Mega Evolution as well,” Gunther smiled, “If you are looking for something to do why not take part in the Soljair City Battle Tournament.”

“A Battle Tournament!” Landon shouted in excitement, “Now you’re speaking my language!” Landon’s Pokemon all cheered as well for a battle tournament. Lyra sighed, knowing she would not be able to talk Landon out of it and agreed to participate as well.

Gunther happily led Landon and Lyra towards a large colosseum where a massive crowd of people were gathered outside.

“I’ll meet up with you two later,” Gunther said as he returned Steelix to its Pokeball with a red beam of light. Gunther waved to Landon and Lyra as he walked away from the crowd and the colosseum.

After a few minutes the crowds of people were being filed into the colosseum. Anyone who wanted to sign up were able to at a nearby desk. Landon and Lyra walked over to the desk and registered themselves for the tournament. All of the registered trainers gathered in a breakroom waiting for their turn in the tournament.

A screen lit up for the tournaments opening ceremony. A man waked up and stood next to a black stone pedestal with a green flame, Landon and Lyra quickly noticed that it was Gunther.

“Attention everyone, first I’d like to thank all of you for coming to this big event, the winner of this tournament will be granted the honor of placing their hand into the Zenith Flame,” Gunther gestered the green flame next to him, “The Zenith Flame is said to bring good fortune and strength to whoever places their hand in it.”

The crowd cheered, as did all of the trainers in the breakroom, Landon included.

“Of course you would be happy about sticking your hand in some fire,” Lyra sighed as she continued to watch the screen, “I wonder why Gunther is giving the opening speech?”

“Don’t you know,” another trainer exclaimed, “Gunther is a direct descendant of the King of Soljair.”

“Wow,” Lyra muttered in amazement.

“Now then without further ado!” Gunther exclaimed, “Let the first match of the Soljair City Battle Tournament begin!”

Landon was quick to run out, as he and another trainer were the first match.

“Aggron come out!” the trainer called as he released a large formidable steel Pokemon.

“Spike you too!” Landon called as he sent out his Blaziken. The referee quickly announced the start of the battle and thus the true start of the tournament.

“Aggron use Bulldoze!” Aggron quickly began charging straight at Blaziken with both speed and strength.

“Dodge it now,” Landon ordered, Spike quickly jumped behind Aggron with incredible speed, “Brick Break!”

“Aggron look out!” Spike was fast as it landed a super-effective Fighting-Type attack on the Steel and Rock-Type. Aggron collapsed soon after the attack.

“Aggron is unable to battle, Blaziken wins,” the referee declared. Landon and Spike cheered after winning the first match of the Tournament.
