Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Academy: Chapter 1: Old Memories and New Friends.

by Ry_Burst

Ry_Burst Hey guys. This series is a sister series to the YuGiOh! series belonging to @Generation Sect. Stay tuned and check out both of them.
“C’mon Kyle, where are you headed. Let me come too,” a small boy with brown hair said, tugging on the shirt of a taller dark haired boy. Kyle bent down and handed the boy a small box.

“Sorry Carter, you can’t come. This is important stuff. But I got you a gift. Your very own dueling deck. I built it for you myself.” Kyle said.

Carter snatched the box and let go of Kyle’s shirt. “Thanks so much Big Bro!” He opened the box, and began to search through the cards. Then he stopped and held up a white bordered card. “Kyle, isn’t this your best card. The rare one you win tournaments with?” Carter asked, revealing it to his older brother.

“It’s yours. I won’t be dueling in the pro-league anymore. You’ll need it. You remember how to Synchro Summon, right. Like I taught you.” Kyle said, with faint signs of tears in his eyes and a warm smile spread across his face.

“Yeah. I need a tuner and some non-tuners. And if the level matches up, I can summon him.” Carter exclaimed happily.

Kyle smiled. “Yep. Good job. Well, i gotta go. Be good for mom, okay?” He said softly as he stood up and opened the door.

“I will Kyle. And I’m gonna become a great duelist like you now!’ Carter shouted. Kyle gave a faint smile and a tear rolled down his cheek as he left, closing the door behind him.

That was the last time Carter had ever seen his older brother. Just a few hours later, his brother had died in a car crash. His body was burnt to a crisp, and it was a closed casket funeral. He never saw Kyle’s face again, except for in pictures.

Carter Davis now stood overlooking the sea. Now he was 15, and a Slifer Red student. His hair was a shaggy mess and his blue eyes caught the sun’s reflection. His jacket was unbuttoned and he was enjoying the nice cool, sea breeze. In his right hand, was the very card his brother had given to him all those years ago. Colossal Fighter. He had kept it a secret from the staff, and hadn’t revealed it since joining Duel Academy. He hadn’t even used it during his entrance exam, nearly losing because of that fact. Synchro and XYZ were extremely rare cards to have and few duelists actually had them. Carter didn’t want to make himself seem special and draw any extra attention from his classmates and teachers.

A boy’s shout awoke Carter from his thoughts. “Hey, you're that kid I'm bunking with. Carter right? Professor Faye told me about you.” A black haired boy said running along the cliff to meet Carter. The boy was slightly pudgy and his jacket was tucked in, but it looked like it was rushed and it was pretty messy. “My name is Louie.” He said sticking his hand out for a handshake.

Carter gave a smile and accepted his handshake, and the two shook hands.

“So since we have time before classes start, want to have a friendly duel? We can test our mettle.” Louie said.

“Sure.” Carter said, with his smile growing. “And it’s nice to meet you Louie.” He raised his arm and activated his duel disk. The disk with the red trim extended and it gave soft glow and hum signifying it was up and running.

Louie raised his arm, and activated his duel disk. Both duelists stepped back and drew their starting hands.

“I'll make the first move,” Louie said, drawing a card. “I'll start off by setting one monster facedown and playing a another card face down.” Louie said, quickly placing his cards from his hand on the duel disk. “And now I end my turn.”

Carter bit his lip as he looked over his starting hand. Then he drew his card and began to think. “I summon Command Knight in attack mode.” In a spiral of fire, the Warrior appeared dressed in crimson. “And next, I equip him with the equip spell Divine Sword - Phoenix Blade. Now his ability gives all Warrior Type monsters in the field a boost by 400, including himself, bringing him to 1600 ATK. And my Phoenix Blade gives him another 300 ATK boost, putting him at 1900 ATK. Now, attack with Crimson Slash!” Command Knight drew an orange blade and charged the face down card. The monster flipped face up to reveal a Dragon made of stone. And to make matters worse this monster had 2000 DEF. The Dragon smacked back the attack, allowing some 9f the flames to scorch Carter, dealing 100 LP of damage. Carter winced as he watched his LP drop to 3900 LP.

“I set one card face down and end my turn.” Carter said, playing a card in the Spell and Trap card zone.

Louie smiled as a he drew his next card. “Like my Golem Dragon. He has pretty good defense. But get ready because I activate my facedown card, Castle of Dragon Souls. A small, but creepy and towering castle appeared behind Louie.

“Now I tribute my Golem Dragon to summon, Different Dimension Dragon in defense mode. Next up, I activate the spell Smashing Ground. If I control a Dragon type monster, I can target one Spell or Trap card on the field and destroy it. And whoever owned the card takes 500 points of damage. So I choose your facedown card.”

Carter clenched his fist as Louie’s Different Dimension Dragon leapt forward and wiped out his card. Then as the shards flew in all directions, some of them crashing into Carter. Once again, Carter winced as his LP dropped, this time to 3400 LP.

“I end,” Louie said giving a smile. “C'mon Carter!”

Carter drew a card and looked and it. “First off, I play the spell card, Reinforcements of the army! This let's me add one Warrior from my deck to my hand,” Carter said plating the card. He pulled out his deck and began to search through it. He pulled out a card and placed his deck back into his duel disk. As he revealed the card, his deck was automatically shuffled. “I add Marauding Captain to my hand! Now I summon him to the field, and his effect activates. When he is summoned, I can summon another monster that level four or lower. So I summon Gauntlet Warrior!” The two armored warriors appeared, one dressed in blue armor with the other in grey. “Now I activate Gauntlet Warrior’s effect.” I can tribute him and boost all Warriors on my side of the field by 500 until the end of the turn.” As Carter moved his arm, Gauntlet Warrior dissolved, and Marauding Captain and Command Knight were surrounded on a strange Aura. “Now Command Knight has 2400 ATK and my Captain has 2100 ATK.” Carter said getting ready to deal some damage.

“Wait, how is Marauding Captain up that high? He only got a 500 ATK Boost.” Louie shouted as he double checked the math on his fingers.

“Well, Command Knights ability gave him an extra 400. Now, Command Knight, attack his Different Dimension Dragon. And Marauding Captain, attack him directly.” Command Knight leapt forward and in as pillar of flames, slashed Different Dimension Dragon in half. Then as the dragon faded away, Marauding Captain came charging forward dealing 2100 points of damage to Louie’s LP, leaving him at 1900 LP. “I end my turn. Your turn.”

Louie grinned as he drew his next card. “I'm gonna get you now. I play the spell Double Summon. Now this turn, I can Normal Summon twice. Now I summon Keeper of the Shrine in attack mode.” Louie said playing his card, allowing the 0 ATK monster to appear.

Carter bit his lip. Double Summon and Keeper of the Shrine. Something was up, and he knew it wouldn't be good.

“Now, Keeper of the Shrine counts as two tributes for a Dragon type monster. So I tribute him to summon my strongest monster, Rabidragon!” The ground shook as the fluffy and scary dragon touched down, giving off a loud roar. “Now, Rabidragon, attack his Command Knight with Carrot Flare!” As a giant orange fireball rushed at Command Knight, Marauding Captain made a lunge in the way of the attack, being disintegrated and dealing 1350 points of damage to Carter's LP, dropping it down to 2050 LP.

Carter stepped back in shock. This monster was massive and was toting 2950 ATK points. It was pretty powerful.

“I end my turn with a facedown. Your move,” Louie said playing his card, while glaring at Carter. The boy closed his eyes and drew his card. He looked at it and smiled. He could hopefully turn this duel around.

“First I tribute Command Knight to summon Freed the Matchless General. Next up I equip the spell, Sword of Dragon’s Soul to Freed, boosting his attack by 700, bringing him to 3000 ATK.” Both duelists watched as the long haired warrior appeared a drew a glowing red spiked blade. “Now, Attack!” Freed bounded forward and slashed in a wide arc, wiping out the Rabidragon in a powerful swing, but only dealing 50 points of damage.

Louie’s LP dropped to 1850 and Carter smiled. “I end.”

“I draw!” Louie shouted drawing his card. “I summon Blackland Fire Dragon in attack mode. Then I play trap card, Dragon Rebirth. I can tribute one dragon type monster and summon a different

Dragon from my hand or graveyard. And I bring back, my Rabidragon.” In a pillar of fire, Blackland Fire Dragon disappeared and was replaced by Rabidragon. “Now I use the effect of Castle of Dragon Souls. I can banish one dragon from the Graveyard and boost one dragon on the fields attack by 700. So that will put Rabidragon at 3650 ATK! And now, I'll attack Freed!” The Dragon charged and opened his mouth firing an Orange fireball at Freed. Last second, Freed hurled his blade at the Rabidragon, and it sunk into its side. Both monsters were destroyed by each others attack, by Carter still took 650 points of damage.

Carter winced as his LP dropped down to 1400 LP. “You see, any dragon who fights against a Warrior who is equipped with the Sword of Dragon’s Soul, automatically is defeated. So now you're defenseless.” He said giving a childish grin.

“Good move, Carter. I end my turn,” Louie said.

“I draw. Now I play the spell, the Warrior Returning Alive and add Marauding Captain to my hand. Next, I summon him, along with Comrade Swordsman of Landstar, due to Marauding Captain effect. My Swordsman ability boosts all Warriors on my side of the field by 400, bringing him to 900 ATK and my Captain to 1600 ATK. Now they both attack you directly!” Carter shouted, full of energy. Both his monsters lunged forward, wiping out the remaining amount of Louie’s LP.

As the monsters faded away, Louie walked forward, and grinned. He patted Carter’s shoulder and said, “that was a pretty sweet duel. Let's head to class, and let's not be late, huh?” Carter nodded and the two friends ran to class.
