BTTD Chapter 8: Foresight

by Silvermist599

Silvermist599 Mikey and Kara break into the building, but find themselves trapped. Will our two heroes find a way to save the day or will they end up mindless minions like their colorless doubles?
I’m not entirely sure what got into me as I ran into the school, but I was having the time of my life. It was something about feeling like I was in one of the stories that my friends and I were always writing. It was just so exhilarating. Anyway, it was probably a good thing that I ran in when I did, because moments after Mikey climbed through the window behind me, a patrol of Colstrom’s personal security guards walked by outside and would have spotted us if we hadn’t moved.

Once inside, I bee-lined it for Colstrom’s office and as planned, I jabbed the necklace into the computer drive and triggered the jolt of electricity. As expected, the lights flickered as I destroyed every fuse in the building. I had left Mikey outside the office to keep watch, and strangely, we didn’t see Colstrom at all.

With the fuses busted, I dragged Mikey into the secret chemistry lab that Colstrom kept by his office and we could still see due to the faint glow of several chemical vials.

“Do you see the projector?” Mikey asked after a few minutes of looking. “We don’t have long before someone checks in here because we blew the power of the entire building!” He said, his tone increasing in panic as he talked.

“Chill, we’ll find it.” I said to him and moments after the words left my mouth, I found a few pink tinted light bulbs lying next to a broken projector that matched the description Michael had given us. However, before I could say anything, Mikey gasped beside me. “What is it?” I asked him, concerned.

“He knew we were coming.” He said, his eyes wide as he stared down at a set of files he’d found on the other side of the room.

“What do you mean?” I asked, surprised.

“I mean this was part of his plan,” He said, nose deep in a folder. “He has written right here exactly what we did or would do, even down to you running in early. This one says that we escape and return to the others with the projector successfully.” He said before turning to a new file. “But the one in front of it says that we were ambushed as we left the building right outside the window, but we managed to escape them.” He continued, before turning to the third file he had out. “However, this one is the one that seems to be the one planned for now, because it’s further forward and mentions the other two.”

“Well what does that one say?” I asked him worriedly.

“It says there’s an ambush right outside the door.” He said, looking at me with concern.

“Then we can’t go out the door.” I said simply before pointing up to the ceiling, “We'll go through the vents.”

“Yeah, they’ve planned for that too.” Mikey said somberly. “They have guards posted at every single exit to the vent system. I’ve got a map here and I don’t see any way out of here.”

I looked over his shoulder at the map in his hands and saw that there really didn’t seem to be any way out of there. But then it clicked. We didn’t need to escape now. We just needed to make sure we could when it mattered.

“We’ve got to let ourselves be captured.”
