Ben is Hoenn-born and has been to Sinnoh and Unova. His favorite weather is fog; pleasantly cool, while not being overwhelming like rain or hail. While he has studied most forms of weather (not sunlight/clear skies), cloud formation and the fog weather condition are his specialty. “Always has his head in the clouds” is a common saying about him.
He has studied the cosmetic fog in the exterior of Mt. Pyre, on Routes 12, 14, and 15 in Unova, as well as the outskirts of the Giant Chasm. Sinnoh’s Route 210, Lost Tower, Mt. Coronet, Sendoff Spring (and on one memorable occasion Turnback Cave) are also places of study. Ben has not yet visited Alola’s fog-laden Meadows, but hopes to soon.
Ben isn’t a trainer, but his mon are taken relatively good care of. Swellow and Pelipper are preened after each outing, Vanilluxe is allowed time in the cold storage room provided it doesn’t stick to the walls or eat any of the samples, Tyranitar has a diet of solid quarry rock, Leafeon is allowed as much time under a sunlamp as it wants, and Castform is… well, Castform is allowed to do anything its heart wills. It was a mostly unwanted gift, and Ben only keeps it out of obligation as a weather researcher. Since it’s a sort of mascot of the career, and all. It’s never useful, though, as it has nothing to do with his realm of study.
