A World Without Color: AWWC Chapter 8: Chasing Secrets

by Silvermist599

Silvermist599 Noah talks to Nate again and learns more about the plan, and how his new friends can help. See how they can do so in the next chapter.
Nate walked into school that day and was confused to see me in class before him. He realized that I hadn’t been on time since the world went gray to me. He didn’t say anything though. No one did. No one ever did here.

The rest of the day went by pretty quickly. After school, I again headed to Nate’s place to talk to him. We walked there together, but didn’t talk at all until we were in the lab. Then I asked, “so, is there anything you can tell me about the plan?”

“What do you want to know? I’ll consider telling you depending of what it is.” He replied.

“Well, the main thing is that I want to know what the end goal of this plan was.” I said.

“Oh, I can tell you that.” He said relieved. “We were planning to find a way into the school’s computer system to find out what happened to ban color. It’s a carefully guarded secret by the higher ups around here, but your mom and Mr. Colstrom know the reason. Most others don’t.”

“Oh, and did we try asking them.” I ask.

“Yeah, you did,” He said, “and you were moved up in the training roster to 1A because of it. That’s what got us wondering.”

“Oh, ok.” I said. “Can you tell me where you originally got your necklace? Maybe we can find another one.” I suggest.

“That’s the thing.” He said hesitantly. “I don’t know.” He said looking down at his feet.

“What do you mean?” I asked confused. “Don’t you remember getting it?”

“No. I don’t, actually.” He said looking down. “I have no memories of anything before first grade. My parents don’t know anything either. They found me in the backyard, and they’d always wanted a child so they didn’t tell anyone except me that it happened. As for the necklace.” He said hitting a button on his computer. “I scanned it,” he said, showing a 3-D model of the necklace on screen. “It’s like nothing I’ve ever seen and I couldn’t find any matches on the internet either.”

“Oh,” I said quietly. “Wait, so you don’t even remember where you came from the way I do. It’s just a blank?”

“Yeah…” he said. “And Noah, well, you, thought that we might be able to find something at the same time as we enacted the plan.” He said.

“Now it makes sense. I think we should go through with the plan still.” I say to him.

“Really?” He said. “We don’t have the plans anymore.” He said sadly. “And we’d need more than just the two of us. We’d need the two of us, along with two other, and one of them would probably have to be small enough to fit into the air vent. The other would have to be able to distract the guards that stay at the school at night without getting caught.” He said. “And we have no way to talk to anyone to get their help, so it’s just hopeless.” He said, and as he said it I began to smile and he looked up and asked, “What are you smiling about?”

“I may have two people that fit that description perfectly. And they just so happen to be coming here tomorrow.” I say with a confident smile.
