A World Without Color: AWWC Chapter 12: Ready for Action

by Silvermist599

Silvermist599 The team enacts the plan and all seems to go well until they see. Well, you'll just have to find out. ;)
“What?” I ask in horror. “What do you mean?”

“Calm down,” Nate said knowingly. “I have a recording of Mr. Colstrom’s voice. I’m going to broadcast it over the school announcement system telling all the guards to head to the front of the school because they got a report of suspicious activity near the front door. That leaves us to be able to just leave through the back.”

“Well why didn’t you just say so?” Kara said, seemingly recovering from a mini-heart attack.

“Dramatic effect.” Nate said simply. I face-palmed.

“Anyway,” I said. “We have another hour before we need to do anything. Is there anything else we need to know?” I asked.

“Not that I know of,” He replied. “If anything else comes up, we’ll just improvise.”

“Ok, so now we wait.” I said.

An hour and a half later, we were in position. “Cameras are down.” Nate said quietly, hitting a button on a small electrical device in his hand. “It’s your turn Kara. As soon as that guard turns the corner, get up there.”

“Roger,” she said and as soon as the guard was out of sight, she quickly sprinted to the drain pipe on the east side of the building, near where we were hiding. Once on the building, we stayed in position until we heard guards shouting and running before sneaking around to the front of the building. Nate then begins to work on the lock, and within seconds, he swings open the door and we close it softly behind us. Nate relocks it as I sprint toward the west wing to open a window for Kara to get in.

Next, the three of us regrouped and Nate hands Mikey a screwdriver and we lift Mikey to the air vent. He unscrews it and climbs inside and Nate and I make our way to the janitor’s closet where Mikey should be heading.

Within a few minutes, we heard a crash as Mikey fell into the closet. “Are you okay?” I whispered through the door.

“Yeah,” he said, a bit of pain in his voice. “Just a bit of a rough landing.” He went silent again for a moment as he looked for the key. “Hey Nate,” he said, “do you know what this key is supposed to look like? There’s a lot of keys in here.”

“I didn’t think about that.” Nate said and punched the ground. He thought for a moment before looking back at me. “Noah, you stay here with Mikey, I’ll be right back,” he said running off toward the principal’s office.

“Bronze with two grooves,” Nate said when he got back. “It’ll probably look pretty new as well.”

Mikey was silent for a few moments before saying, “found it!”

“Good, now slide it under the door,” Nate said. “Then meet us in the principal’s office as soon as possible.” He finished and we started running toward the office. So far, everything had been going perfectly.

We got to the principal’s office and Nate turned the key and we rushed inside before promptly stopping. Everything in the office was normal, just what you’d expect from a school principal. All except the board at the back. On the tack-board in the back of the classroom hung many pictures, all in color.

The thing is, the top four pictures… were us.
