The two trainers marched along the paved roads to a huge building marked 'Santalune Gym'. Ava stopped in front of the glass door protruding above their heads. This is it... Ava thought to herself. My first Gym Battle. She was questioning herself.
She hadn't really battled much, other than training with Elijah from time to time. Elijah could sense her worriedness and put a hand on her shoulder. Ava turned to him.
"You can do this. You've been practicing very hard the past few days, and I've given you a lot of the tips I've used in the past. If you would like, I can go first to show you how it's like." Elijah told her.
She smiled, "I'd like that. Thank you." Ava opened the door and they both stepped in.
It was unlike anything they had ever seen before. A huge indoor forest, full of Bug-Type Pokémon of all kinds.
"Wow..." They both said in harmony.
A Gym Guide stepped in front of them, "Welcome to the Santalune City Gym. If you would like to challenge the Gym Leader, Viola, you must traverse your way through the trees to find her. She specializes in Bug-Type Pokémon" The guide said as if he didn't say much else.
Ava thanked him and moved over to the climbing gear. It was necessary to traverse the tall tress, and to prevent her from falling. Once both Ava and Elijah were safely equipped they started up the tree. They safely reached the platform towards the top of the tree and were greeted with sign pointing in the direction of the Gym Leader.
"Race you there!" Ava said as she began bolting across tree to tree.
"Oh no you won't!" Elijah replied and also began bolting from tree to tree.
They reached the tree marked 'Gym Battle Ahead' Ava tripped over a branch which caused Elijah to trip over her. They landed on top of each other and began laughing. Elijah helped Ava up and began walking forward.
"Welcome to the Santalune City Gym, young trainers." said a voice coming from the leaves of the tree they were standing on.
A female descended from the leaves on a zipline. "My name is Viola, Leader of The Gym. Who is challenging me first?" Viola asked.
Elijah looked at Ava and she nodded. "I guess I'll be first." replied Elijah.
"Very well," Viola responded. "Just as a warning , I will not go easy on you." She smirked and walked over to the opposite side of the battle field.
"Whenever you're ready." She shouted.
Elijah walked over to his place on the battle field. Ava hopped up on the balcony to watch him. She really hoped that he could win this, she didn't know why she liked him so much, she had only just met him the other day.
The referee came over the intercom, "The battle between Gym Leader, Viola, and Pokémon Trainer, Elijah, will now begin. Release your first Pokémon!"
Viola released her first Pokémon, Surskit. Elijah released Scyther to counter it.
"Ready. Set. Begin!" The Referee announced over the intercom.
"Surskit use Ice Beam to freeze the battle field!" Viola commanded.
The battlefield was soon frozen over in a thin sheet of ice. Scyther couldn't move around without sliding on the ice. Elijah had to think of something quick or else the battle could very well be over.
"You can do it Scyther!" called Ava from the stands.
Elijah nodded and called out, "Scyther use Night Slash on the ground!"
Everyone was extremely confused by this technique, but Scyther knew exactly what it was going to do. The Night Slash make impact with the layer of ice on the ground and shattered it to pieces. Scyther was now able to mobilize on the ground once again.
"Great job, Scyther! Now attack it with X-Scissor!" Elijah called out.
Scyther rushed toward the Surskit with great speed and the X-Scissor hit it with great force. Surskit was sent flying back and was unable to battle!
Ava was astonished with Elijah's battling, she had never seen anything like it before. He was truly amazing.
"You surely are something else." Viola said to Elijah, impressed with his tactics. "I would have never expected someone to break the ice that. You two make an amazing team."
They did. They really did. Thought Ava.
"Alright time for my next Pokémon," Viola shouted. "Vivillon, I choose you!"Vivillon came spiraling out of the Pokeball.
"Alright, Scyther, use Quick Attack and X-Scissor together! Quick Scissor!" Elijah shouted.
This is what Elijah was known for, the use of combination moves. An unbeatable strategy. Vivillon was pummeled by the force of Scyther's last attack. it was almost over for Vivillon.
"Scyther, finish it up with Metal Claw!" The force of the Metal Claw decided the victor of the battle.
"And the Winner of the Santalune City Gym Battle is the challenger, Elijah!" roared the announcer.
Ava lit up with excitement and ran over to Elijah. Again without thinking she hugged him, but this time didn't stop. Elijah hugged her back.
"Congratulations!" Viola interrupted their communion. She handed him the Santalune City Gym Badge.
"Thank you, Viola!" He said gratefully.
"Well.. Who's next?" Viola Asked.
