Ava felt her foot slide back to far. She couldn't catch herself even if she tried. It was almost like time slowed down and she just watched in slow motion as she tumbled off the edge. She closed her eyes, "It can't end like this... I have so much I want to do... And then there's Elijah... Something about him makes me feel strange.. I've never had so much excitement and joy from being with someo.." Her thought was cut off from someone grabbing her hand. She quickly opened her eyes to see Elijah leaning over the ledge with his hand tightly clutched around hers. He had saved her.
Elijah quickly pulled her up to the top of the cliff. He fell backwards exhausted from the climbing they had already done and diving to save Ava. She fell on top of him breathing heavily as well. She wanted to move, but she couldn't. Elijah had already proven time and time again, but he had just risked his life to save hers. He could have fell off too but he didn't care. "He saved me life..." She thought. She felt Elijah's arm settle on her back, "Are you okay?" He asked curiously. She sat up and smiled, "Thanks to you." Elijah helped Ava stand up and got up himself, "Well we just have one more peak to ascend, then we should be done." He replied.
A couple minutes later, they had both reached the summit of the cliffs. Sitting in a chair at the top was presumably Grant, the Gym Leader. "Well done you two. You finally made it to the peak! I watched your little uh... Accident there. You two make a really good team." Grant said to them. "So here's what I'm going to do. You both will battle me at the same time. I'll use two Pokemon, you will both use one. This Gym focuses on the trust between two trainers, do you accept?" Our heroes turned to each other and had some sort of mind reading session. "We accept" They said simultaneously. Grant smirked and walked to the opposite side of the mountain peak.
Elijah looked around, "Where's the stadium?" He asked. Grant smiled, "Good Question. This entire peak is our stadium." Grant replied. The two trainers nodded and walked to their side of the peak. Grant threw two Pokeballs into the air. Out came Tyrunt and Amaura looking lively as ever. Ava threw her Pokeball and out came Fennekin. Elijah released Froakie as his choice. A referee walked to the side of the battlefield, "The battle between Gym Leader Grant and trainers Ava and Elijah will now begin. 3... 2... 1... GO!" The referee roared.
"Froakie used Water Pulse on Tyrunt!" Elijah commanded. Ava followed up with Ember on Amaura. Both attacks connected causing Grant's Pokemon to take some damage. "That was a good combination, but check this out. Amaura use Aurora Beam and Tyrunt use Rock Tomb!" Grant replied. The two attacks formed into one creating a giant ball of rock and ice. "Froakie knock Fennekin out of the way!" Elijah roared. Froakied dashed to the left knocking Fennekin away from the oncoming attack. Sadly, Froakie was solely hit in return. Ava was too shocked to make a move, big problem. Amaura used Take Down on Fennekin and she was sent flying backwards.
"We need a game plan," Elijah shouted to Ava. She nodded back. Grant had had enough of their babbling and both Amaura and Tyrunt used Rock Tomb. Gigantic stones were lifted above their heads, before the two Pokemon could throw them at Fennekin and Froakie, Fennekin had dashed up in front of them. "Ember!" Ava yelled. The flames caught the two Pokemon of guard and damage was dealt. The stones they had lifted fell on their own heads dealing even more damage. "Nice one, Ava!" Elijah cheered. "Now it's our turn. Froakie toss your Frubbles at their feet!" Froakie's super sticky Frubbles now laid over the other teams' feet. They couldn't move.
"Follow it up with Bubble!" Elijah commanded. Froakie obeyed and the other team now laid closer to defeat. "It's up to you!" Elijah called to Ava. She nodded and said. "Fennekin use Flamethrower!" The flames were enough, both opposing Pokemon lay defeated. Ava jumped in celebration and crouched as Fennekin ran up to her. She took her in her arms and hugged her tight, "Thank you for everything..." She told it. Fennekin just nuzzled her forehead. Froakie hopped up on Elijah's shoulder and held his fist out to him. Elijah bumped it as Froakie was anticipating. "You did awesome too." Elijah said.
Grant walked up to the two trainers and they quickly stood to greet him. "Both of you truly proved that you could handle the challenges within this Gym. In reward here's your badges as promised." Grant handed each of them a Cliff Badge. He walked away and out heroes never saw him again. Ava turned to Elijah and hugged him. "Thank you for everything." She said quietly. Elijah hugged her back as usual and smiled she had his favorite perfume on. "You're Welcome."
The hotel clock read 11pm. Our Heroes had stayed up all night watching Dancing With The Starmies. Elijah was passed out of the bed next to Ava. Ava hopped out of bed and walked to their balcony. She starred out into the Kalos darkness. She felt her hand reach to the necklace on her neck. The one she and Elijah had split in half after their victory at The Battle Palace. She clutched it tightly with her hand. Elijah had been their for her every time she needed it. He has risked his life for her multiple times, but what had she done? She felt a hand touch her on the shoulder. She turned to see Elijah standing behind her. Tears flooded her eyes, Elijah knew what she was thinking. He put his arms around her and pulled her closer. She wrapped her arms around him in return.
"It's okay." He said calmly.
