Alex and Ava stood across from each other on the makeshift battlefield. They were each down one Pokemon with one more to go.
Alex tossed another Pokeball onto the field and out came Dragonite. Ava did the same and out came Eevee.
“Wouldn’t it have been better for her to go with Gourgeist since it has a wider variety of moves?” Macy asked.
“Sure, but this is a battle of bonds remember? She has a much stronger bond with Eevee. If she wins this, it will prove her bond is the strongest. Not that it really matters.” Elijah replied.
Macy nodded and tuned back into the battle.
Dragonite was launching Hyper Beams left and right and Eevee was managing to avoid them, but barely. Eevee fired back with Swift which, unlike Dragonite’s attacks, made contact.
Dragonite shook of the attack and fired back with a powerful Dragon Rush which knocked Eevee off its feet.
“Eevee, flip around and land back on your feet!” Ava called out. Eevee focused and did what it was told managing to land right up but still sustaining major damage.
“Swift once more!” Ava called.
The Swift was no match for the Hyper Beam that was launched at it. The attack absolutely disintegrated the Swift and made direct contact with Eevee.
Eevee was blown back and caught by Ava.
“Eevee is no match for Dragonite. No matter how strong your bond with it is.” Alex told her.
Ava sat holding Eevee and began tearing up. The tears dripped down her cheek and landed on Eevee’s furry face. Eevee’s eyes began to crack open and she saw her trainer’s look of sadness. Eevee turned its head and licked Ava’s face trying to cheer her up.
Ava opened her eyes and wiped away her tears. Eevee sprung out of her hands and began to face Dragonite once again. It was still going to battle for her trainer. Ava was shocked. She wasn’t aware Eevee had that much love for her that it would continue battling.
Eevee stood with a look of great confidence on its face and began to glow.
The battlefield was filled with a bright blue light and all four of our heroes stood dumbfounded.
The light retracted and revealed that Eevee had evolved into a beautiful Sylveon with a new moveset.
Ava stood up, ready to continue the battle with her new friend.
“Let’s see what you can do!” Ava shouted to Sylveon.
Sylveon nodded and released a Misty Terrain which severely weakened Dragon-Type moves. It then proceeded to use Moonblast, another new attack, which hit Dragonite square in the face causing some damage.
“New Pokemon? No matter. Dragonite, use Aqua Tail!” Alex commanded.
Dragonite flew at Sylveon and slammed it hard with an Aqua Tail which was then followed up by a Fairy Wind from Sylveon which also hit Dragonite.
Both Pokemon were breathing heavily. The battle soon to come to a close.
“Hyper Beam!”
“Moon Blast!”
Both attacks hit their mark. Both Pokemon stood tall facing each other. Dragonite bent to its knees. It looked to be over.
Just then. Sylveon collapsed. Dragonite had won.
Ava ran over to Sylveon and gave her a hug. She was very proud of her Pokemon even if it didn’t win. She happily returned it to its Pokeball and stared at the ball. She smiled.
A hand reached out to her and she looked up. It was Alex while a smile of his face as well.
She took his hand and stood up.
“I think we know who the winner is.” Alex stated.
“Oh come on. We know you won. You don’t have to brag.” Ava replied.
“I think it’s quite the opposite.” Alex told her.
Ava looked at him confusedly, “What do you mean?”
“I think he’s right.” Macy continued.
“Sure is.” Elijah followed up.
Ava was still not understanding how she had won if her Pokemon was defeated.
“I may have won the battle, but you most certainly have a better bond with your Pokemon. Especially Sylveon.” Alex stated.
“Sylveon is the rarest eeveelution. It evolves whenever its friendship with its trainer reaches incredibly high levels. The fact your Eevee evolved into one proves you two are meant for each other.” Macy explained.
Ava looked back at Sylveon’s Pokeball with great gratitude and back up to Alex and smiled. She then hugged him. He hugged her back.
“Sorry for getting in this argument in the first place. It was stupid.” Ava said apologetically.
“No, it’s my fault completely. But the good thing is, your Eevee evolved because of it. Maybe it wasn’t so bad after all.” Alex replied.
