Chapter 1:

Ryme city was usually peaceful. In this city, it was rather easy for Pokémon and their trainers to enjoy working together in jobs that paid well and were perfectly matched for each pair.

And yet, some pairs weren’t perfect.

“Kali!” My boss yelled up the stairs. His Loudred was right behind him yelling up a storm. This was an example of a perfect match. I grabbed my reports and ran quickly out of my office. He grabbed me by the arm as he led me down the stairs to the lobby.

“I told you that you wouldn’t be allowed back here unless you got the partner I told you Ryme Industries required.” His quiet voice made it so much more effective and harsh. He pointed to the door.

“Sir please. I promise I will get a partner! I just haven’t made my match yet! I know I will! I swear!” Other employees were beginning to stare at my boss and I.

My boss looked back to his Loudred.

“You have one week then out.” The pair walked away. Slowly, everyone began to fall into their working rhythm.

As I walked back to my office, I began to ask myself why I chose to never catch a Pokémon. Life without a Pokémon was not as bad as people thought. Sure, it doesn’t make you look cool in any way, shape, or form, but it doesn’t effect you. I had my certification since I was the required age, but I just never took advantage of it. I got so involved with my work that I never found the time to find a partner.

-1 day later-

I needed to get that Pokémon partner. Maybe then, people would respect me a bit more. What better place to get a partner than the Training Fields! The Training Fields were created by the town founders for young trainers to capture Pokémon to use at the beginning of their journeys. Although these fields were mostly filled to the brim with common Pokémon, rumor had it that each field had a certain uncommon Pokémon you could find. I took a deep breath and walked through the entrance.

The field was peaceful. Boss was right. It was time for me to gain a Pokémon partner of my own. Heck, even my twelve year old brother had one, and I was almost twice his age! I carefully strolled through the grass, trying to scope out my potential partner. I saw a shadow scurrying past me. I chased it. The Pokémon ran fast. Faster then I could run. I pulled out a poke ball and chucked it. The device hit the figure and consumed it. The ball shook. Again. Again. Then suddenly, it exploded. The Pokémon escaped. I could finally see what it was. It was a Aipom. The monkey like creature glared at me. The way it looked at me was a crystal clear signal to run. I didn’t.
