A Walk Through Darkness: Intro

by Daffodile Daily

Daffodile Daily A woman recounts how she met her very first pokémon partner and how the encounter gave rise to their special bond.
"Good night baby girl," she cooed softly, tucking a timid-looking ten-year-old into bed. Usually her daughter would protest and groan if she attempted to tuck her in, but tonight the lanky, violet-haired kid lay still and silent. Opting not to intrude unless asked, and quite tired from a long day of training, the woman stepped quietly over the threshold into the hallway. Out of habit, she flicked the light switch as she left the room-

"Mom, NO!" screamed the little girl. By the tone of her voice you would've thought she was being whisked out the window by evil kidnappers. Though the light was only off for a second, the child looked pale with fear and her hazel eyes grew bright with tears.

"Oh Jenna I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to!"

Unable to hold back, Jenna hid her face in her hands and began to speak through muffled sobs, "How...how am I s-supposed to b-be a pokémon trainer.....i-if I'm still petrified by d-d-darkness..."

Gliding to her daughters side, the woman felt the best way to make things better would be to share a special story, "I was just as afraid of the dark as you are when I was your age," she began. Jenna peered over the tops of her fingers, and raised an eyebrow expressing her doubt. "Hey, it's true!" She continued, "Just ask Nana sometime...actually, it was a pokémon who helped me overcome my fear. I was ten years old, do you want to hear the story?"

Jenna pulled her hands away from her face and folded her arms across her chest before nodding, "Which pokémon was it?"
