Katie's Kalos Adventures: A Semi-Average Evening

by Rainbowditto

Rainbowditto Waking up from a nice nap, Katie catches a glimpse at one of her pokemon and decides to chase it.
You wake with a yawn in a small patch of grass. How long had you been asleep? You glance at your phone and push the power button gently. 5:16. Lovely. You sit up with a groan and wipe the sleep from your eyes. Your entire body pops loudly as you do so, but eventually it stops as you stand up. Felix is nowhere to be found and as the light in the forest dims, you feel as though this entire thing is pointless. That is, until Felix hops down from the tree branches behind you. Whipping around, you fling out your arm and yelp. Felix only steps back a bit to avoid your outburst, but allows you to slap him lightly as punishment for scaring you. "How many times do I have to tell you not to do that!" you shout at him. He's quiet, but begins walking forward, motioning for you to follow. You grumble, "You have time to order me around but not answer me?" Felix ignores you and keeps leading you forward instead. You roll your eyes, looks like he does. Grievances aside, however, Felix seems to know where he's going. At least you hope he knows where he's going. You huff slightly as your feet begin to hurt. Perhaps Felix wouldn't mind carrying you to where it is that he's going. You look up to ask him, except, where is he? You whip around, but Felix is nowhere to be found. Well shit. Hear your breathing increase, and your head starts to hurt. Where is he? And why did he leave you here? Are you annoying? You take a deep breath, and start to calm down. OK, think it out. Maybe Felix went ahead to see something, or maybe he went to get some food. You sit down and begin to play with a clump of moss on a nearby rock to calm yourself. It's then that you see a flicker of pink out of the corner of your eye. Looking up, you see a lone sylveon sniffing at the bushes across where you're sitting. It's Paul. You sit up with a start and drop your phone. "ARE YOU FFFFUCKING SHITTING ME?" You yell at him. Paul looks up for a moment, flattens his ears, and is off. He dashes off into the underbrush and after you free your pant leg from a bramble, you're sprinting after him into the deeper part of the forest.
You follow Paul for about five minutes until he leads you to a slightly thinner part of the forest. "Get. Back. Here. You. Little. SHIT!" you hiss through gritted teeth. Paul looks back at you, and with a whimper, begins to run faster. Suddenly Paul heads through a line of trees and is gone from your line of sight. You hold your breath, and chase him through to the other side. On the other side, however, you stop running with a slight skid. A large meadow lays in front of you with flowers all along the rolling hills. A small hammock is hung near the center, and you can only just see a snorlax sleeping happily underneath it. It takes you a couple more seconds to realize that someone is watching you. You turn to the left a little bit, and then to the right. Back to the left... There. Faintly, you can see someone over near the snorlax, petting it softly as it snores. You set off at a jogging pace, and soon, you are right next to the man. He glances at you, and clears his throat. "Lookin' fer yer pokemon?" He asks you. You swallow down a lump in your throat because you have just noticed who it is that you're talking to. The eighth gym leader in Kalos, Wulfric. You nod quickly, and straighten your shoulders. Wulfric smiles at you, and lets out a loud laugh. "Well they're waitin' fer ya!" He points over to a small dip in the hills where every missing pokemon is enjoying a snack. You grumble, and grit your teeth. Have they been sitting here for the entire day while you painstakingly looked for them?? Wulfric slaps a large hand on your shoulder. "Well what're ya waitin' for? Go say hi!" he shoves you off in their direction.
You approach the group of pokemon with each step becoming a stomp. Fredrick is the first to notice you, and lets out a squawk before trying to dash away. "Don't you dare." you spit at him, and he crosses his arms, walking back towards the others. There is an undying awkwardness in the dip in the ground. Freezer-Burn was looking off to the left, clearly avoiding your gaze. Charmont, following her example, turns his gaze to the darkening sky. Fredrick is meeting your eyes, stubbornness glinting in his expression. Sasha is nowhere to be found, but you can see Paul hiding in between Charmont's legs. And speak of the devil and his un-needed wife, here comes Sasha and Felix, lumbering towards you with a bunch of items in their arms. Sasha drops what she's holding as soon as she see's you, and dashes over to the small gathering of pokemon. Immediately, she's yelling at Paul in her loud raichu noises, and you can see him flinch. Felix is a bit slower to come (mostly due to the large amount of stuff that he's holding), but comes nonetheless. He isn't as worried or nervous as the other pokemon, which is to be expected, but he looks puzzled. "And where have you been?" you ask him, putting your hands on your hips. Felix sets the stuff down, and for the first time, you notice that it's the entire collection of items you had set up for camp. Now he has your attention. Felix steps forward and unwraps his tongue, then steps forward and begins to croak at Sasha, who temporarily stops yelling at Paul, and begins to yell at Felix. Felix is taken aback for a second before he joins Sasha in yelling at Paul, who at this point looks like he would very much like to sink into the ground and disappear. That's when you decide to step in and interrupt. "Hey uh, I like blaming things on Paul as much as the next guy, but what did he do?" Sasha turns to you and begins chattering angrily, gesturing to the woods, to you, to Paul, back to you, to the stuff on the ground, and finally to Felix. You're confused until Wulfric walks up behind you and starts to explain. "Looks like they had planned to take ya' here as'a nice surprise, but that there sylveon ruined it by leading ya' here too early." Oh, well that makes sense. You begin to chew on the inside of your lower lip, and raise your hand to your face to chew on the knuckle joint. It's a nervous tick, but it helps you think things out. "Ok," you begin, "but that doesn't make sense, why would they want to take me here when I've been so grumpy?" Wulfric shrugs and slinging his coat over his shoulder, turns to walk away. "That's something for you to find out, but it's dinner time for me." The last of the sun's rays are dimmed and stars begin to glint through the clouds. Night has begun.
