Chapter 1
This was it. No more waiting. It was finally time. I was so excited, I could hardly contain myself. Today meant freedom. Freedom from the chains of the terrible past. As soon as I could start my journey, I was free. I could escape the horrors of home. The dungeons of school. The beatings of a hard life. No more spending all of my time hiding from the monsters dedicated to hunting, and finally destroying me.
One hour earlier
I got the call late at night. As I sat up in bed to answer the phone, the door opened. My adoptive father was standing there.
“What are you doing with a phone.” He said it calmly, but that was even worse than him yelling. My voice wavered as I answered.
“The-the Pr-pr-ofesser was calling, s-sir.” Whenever I was scared, I started stuttering. Bates continued to stare at me.
“This is about you getting that pokemon huh? Then you can finally leave?”
“Y-yes sir.”
“Hurry up and get done with it.” He left the room without saying another word. Usually, he takes my phone away and locks it in the drawer for a week. But, ever since he found out that I could get a pokemon and leave on my journey, he has been less agitated. It was a win-win for both of us. I didn’t have to live with him anymore, and he didn’t have to see me. I answered the phone.
“Kaitlyn? Are you there?”
“Yes Professor, I am here!” The Professor and I continued to talk for all of five minutes. Those five minutes were about to change my life for the better. I was to meet the Professor at his lab. Immediately.
