A Pokemon Fanfic: A Pokemon Fanfic: Chapter Seven (Granite Cave)

by Bulba the Curious

Bulba the Curious In order to find a new pokemon, Norman ventures out to Granite Cave, but is surprised when he meets a whole new gang of villains and a mysterious man.
Scene 16

"Ok, so Cleffa and Pooch are weak in that gym," Norman said to himself, "and Flygon won't survive through all of their attacks." He thought for a second, and decided to catch another pokemon. He only had three pokeballs left, though. "Maybe there's something on the other side of this island."

After some relatively brief exploration, he discovered a cave. A sign next to the entrance read, "Granite Cave".

"Granite Cave? I hope I can find pokemon in here." Norman entered the cave. He didn't see any pokemon right now, but assumed he would be jumped, soon. He walked deeper into the cave, discovering a long, straight staircase leading down to an opening in the cave wall. Curious, he began climbing down the staircase, only to trip and fall flat on his face. He looked up to see a Zubat hovering above him.

"This'll work! Go, Cleffa! Weaken the Zubat with pound, but don't let it faint!" Norman called to his pokemon. Cleffa jumped into action, pounding Zubat to the ground, doing almost critical damage. The Zubat didn't move, but it wasn't fainted yet.

"I don't know if this will work," Norman told Cleffa. He held out an empty pokeball in front of him. "Got any ideas?"

Apparently Cleffa did, because he started singing a very calm and quiet tune. "You're making me sleepy..." said Norman. In fact, the tune made everything that heard it sleepy, including the Zubat which had dozed off.

"Good job, Cleffa! Pokeball, go!" Norman threw his pokeball near the sleeping pokemon, and it was sucked into the ball. The ball wobbled once, twice, and finally caught the Zubat. "Yes! Thanks, Cleffa!" You can walk outside of your pokeball through the cave if you want."

Cleffa liked that idea, and the two walked down the stairs together. What they saw in the next room astonished them.

A huge cave painting was spread across the entire back wall. It depicted a giant whale-like pokemon jumping out of the ocean during a huge storm. Several people dressed in blue and white striped outfits stood near the painting, and another person, a man with surprisingly spiky blue-grey hair stood behind them. The outfitted froup didn;t seem to know that this man was here.

"Dastardly criminals," the blue-haired man said, just loud enough for the group to hear.

The whole group turned around and saw the man. Each of them had an "A" emblazoned across their outfit.

They must be the Team Aqua that Roxanne told me about, thought Norman.

"What are you doing here?!" one of the Team Aqua members asked, outraged. He stared hard at the man.

"I was simply coming to see the painting, when you goons showed up," the man responded calmly. "If you would leave, I would be grateful."

The Team Aqua grunt seemed astounded the man talked to him like that. Nonetheless, he led his friends out of the cave, right past Norman and Cleffa. The man turned around and saw the duo. "Is that the Cleffa that sang that wonderful tune in the other chamber?"

"Yes," replied Norman. "I didn't even know he could do that."

"Have you named him yet?" the man questioned.

"No," Norman answered.

"How about Treble, as in Treble Clef, representing the higher half of musical notes," the man suggested.

"Treble? Do you like that name?" Norman asked Cleffa. Cleffa jumped up in down in happiness. Norman smiled. "Treble it is!"

"Now allow me to introduce myself," said the man. "I'm Mr. Stone, the president of Devon Co. in Rustboro. I study rare rocks."

"I'm Norman," Norman reponded. "I came here to catch a new pokemon and - what just happened?"

Mr. Stone told Norman about Team Aqua's goal of using the pokemon depicted in the painting to raise the waters and flood the world. He told Norman about the pokemon itself, Kyogre, as he called it. He also told Norman about Team Magma's goal of using Kyogre's opposite, Groudon to raise the lands and get rid of the water.

"Oh, and one more thing, Norman," Mr. Stone told him. He held out a dark, sharp stone to Norman and Norman grabbed it. "If you're ever in trouble, give that to Treble. Also, let me see your phone so I can put my number in it." After that quick exchange, Mr. Stone said, "Well, I ought to be going now. Good luck!"

And Norman was alone.
