Demon Slayer Chronicles: A night to remember

by ThAtGuY101

ThAtGuY101 In the first story of the 'Demon Slayer Chronicles', you were shown 'The life of Ren' which detailed the life of a young boy who became a teenage boy with big ambitions. This story is a continuation of the previous story which begins with Ren's 'Fateful night'. As the story continues, Ren slowly finds himself and the world around him changing.
Ren saw his mother in the kitchen cleaning plates. His father was talking to Ren's eldest brother ,and he could hear his middle brother upstairs thrashing about. No doubt practicing rolls and somersaults. He loved acrobatics. Ren smiled and quietly headed out. Not a single person noticed him quietly leave. He turned his head left and right down the darkened street. There were several houses within the surrounding area. One was just across from the street of Ren's home which was facing him. Another was about fifty yards away from the house across the street ,and heading towards town.

Lastly there was the large old wooden structure at the end of the street. An old looking building. So old that it hardly even resembled a house. The building smelled of rotting wood and just had a very unpleasant aura about it. Being near the house made Ren feel weird. It looked so archaic compared to the modern houses of the era they currently lived in. It looked like the type of building that would get torn down or turned into a historical monument.

Ren didn't give the house any mind. He came outside to get his locket from the docks, not stare at stupid old houses, "Why the hell did I take my locket out of my pocket?! but I didn't wanna risk it getting damaged in that fight. Yet then again, I'm totally the strongest person in the village! Nobody can beat me! I'm way too strong for any sailor or thug" Ren said to himself.

He continued to walk down the street when he began making his way into town. Some of the houses had lights on ,but some didn't. The lights in his friend's house were on. They must have been eating dinner. As Ren went further down the street it slowly got darker as the occasional home would go dark. It was clearly night time ,and most people were getting sleep. Now Ren's main source of light came from the moon itself which rarely poked out of the clouds. It was a dark night ,and the moon would only make brief appearances before being smothered by the dark clouds looming over the town.

The moon shined from the sky once more giving light to the ocean in front of him as well as shining off of his locket. Ren smiled grabbing the locket ,and turned to run back home . He grinned from ear to ear ,but his grin faded when something tapped on his shoulder. A cold touch which felt as if someone had placed cold ice on his shoulder. He turned ,but nothing was there. Just the dark ocean beyond the pier. "Lets keep this nice and quiet. Don't yell or move a muscle ,and I just might make this as painless as possible" a voice went. A cold hand slid across Ren's cheek ,and covered his mouth muffling his voice.

Ren wasn't going to let some kid take advantage of him. To the demon's surprise Ren lifted his heel off the ground and attempted to stomp on his foot ,but the demon was quick and moved its foot outta the way. Ren followed it up by swung his elbow back at his solar plexus ,but this did nothing ,but anger the demon. The now enraged demon slashed his face leaving a cut on the right side of his jawline. Before Ren could kick the demon in the groin, Ren was pushed to the ground. Ren hadn't lost a fight in a long time, "Who is this freak?! Why is he so strong?! How did he sneak up on me? Why does my face feel like its burning so much?! It hurts so much. I don't feel so good. I feel dizzy ,but I'm Ren Arasaka!" A very scared Ren thought to himself.

Unable to stand up he slid back towards the pier. He held his hand across his cheek ,but that caused more pain ,and the blood just kept coming out. It was pain like pain he never felt before. Ren was speechless ,and didn't want to believe the red eyed creature in front of him was anything other than some angry thug looking to get revenge for someone Ren beat in a fight. In that moment Ren could swear he saw someone leaping from the rooftops ,but nobody was dumb enough to do that. The demon turned towards the buildings, turning his back on Ren. "What an idiot, turning his back on me... I don't see a knife in his hand... His hand... Claws?!" Ren thought to himself. He mustered the strength in him to lean against one of the pier's posts sticking out of the ground. He was now on his feet ,and walking towards the town tavern. He walked behind it in hopes the demon wouldn't see him.

Ren knew this was a demon now. Before Ren made it behind the tavern he saw the demon fighting someone ,but the building was in the way ,and Ren couldn't make out who it was other than the fact that the person had on dark clothes and a colorful haori. They also held a sword which clashed with demon claws. As Ren walked behind the tavern he leaned against the tavern wall ,and began walking. Upon moving his hand, he noticed the blood on his hand left a print on the wall.

He saw his friend's house just a couple buildings away. The lights were out ,and Ren was too ashamed to let his friend look at him with the fresh scar still on his face. He walked past his friends house. Ren saw his Taichi instructor's training area. The training room's doors were shut tight ,and the lights were out. No way he could hide there, so he continued to limp down the street. His arms felt heavy ,and his chest began to constrict. With every step he took his legs wobbled beneath his fatigued body. As Ren saw his house in the distance.

He felt a bit relieved to stand on the front door steps of his home ,but the fight with that demon left a cold feeling in his chest, not from the cold touch of the demon ,but from his wounded pride, "I'm Ren... My friends say I'm unbeatable! Nobody can beat me! Not even a demon!" Ren yelled. He almost went teary eyed looking down on the porch. He looked at the second floor ,and took the wolf carving out of his pocket. He clutched it firmly to his chest ,and wiped his tears away. The door was already locked ,and he didn't want to knock on the door.

Ren was too tired to climb up the tree and into the window. He could also hear someone coming. He dropped the wolf carving there ,and looked for a place to hide. The abandoned building was the only place he could think of. For some reason, the dark aura wasn't there. Ren used the strength he had to try jog towards the house. He looked at the building. Despite how old it was, the building seemed welcoming. It was almost majestic seeing how the building managed to stand so long. The door was so badly broken that Ren didn't even have to bother to slide the door open to get inside.

He felt his heart stop for a moment ,and his head was unbearably hurting. He only made it a few steps into the building before falling to the ground. he managed to crawl over to the stairs. Dragging himself up the first few stairs quickly ,but pausing as he slowly began drifting in and out of consciousness. He managed to drag himself to the second floor before momentarily blacking out.

*thump! thump! thump! thump! thump!"* went the floorboards on the bottom floor beneath him. The sound awoken Ren to a fright. He didn't know whether or not it was the demon or the person that fought the demon. Ren's parents told him stories about demon slayers ,but Ren never even seen a demon slayer. He slid across the room's floor with his elbows firmly propped up underneath his torso, ever so dragging him across the room. He got to his knees ,and then his feet. The steps were now going to the stairs. Ren walked over towards the window.

A middle aged man in black uniform ,and a multi-colored haori, he looked to be in his late thirties or early forties. The man slowly approached Ren with his sword drawn, "I'm sorry I was late... May you rest in peace... 5th style risi-" The man said ,but before he could finish his sentence, Ren managed to leap out the window. He landed on the side paneling just outside the second floor window. He rolled down to the ground floor hitting the ground fairly hard. He laid there motionless looking at his pendant in his hand. The man jumped down ,and saw the pendant. He felt sorry for the boy ,but could tell he was turning into a demon.

The man stood over him and thrusted his sword down ,but Ren deflected it last second, "Go away!" Ren yelled. The man explained the boy's situation to him. After discussing ,and hearing the boy's story he felt sorry ,and decided he would do something risky. He would take the boy to a cave ,and leave him there for the night. If he attacked him at any point he would end him then and there. He would check on the boy the following morning ,and if he had even the slightest feral behavior he would end him then and there. He decided to leave some freshly cooked fish in the cave for him in case he felt like indulging in eating. The demon slayer didn't know whether or not demons could eat human food. Ren was too confused to be hungry for any food. After a night's sleep he belt energized ,but lacked the motivation to get up.

Not only did he feel different ,but he looked different too. For starters he was more pale ,and his eyes were a different color ,and his hands felt different. Looking at his reflection made him feel as if he were looking at a different person. The creature in the water puddle was a monster. For some reason Ren felt uneasy ,but the unease came not from his reflection but something else. The demon slayer came the next morning. He revealed his name to be Kishi. Ren didn't know it ,but at the time, Kishi was the Stone Hashira. Kishi was even nice enough hand him his locket. Ren smiled seeing it. He didn't even realize he dropped it. He felt more relieved to know he had it back. He placed it in his pocket. "Back where it belongs" Ren said. He looked away from his reflection ,but was slowly coming to terms with his situation.

Kishi was nice. He would visit him almost every day. However being the Stone Hashira meant he couldn't waste time to check up on poor Ren. He did however motivate Ren to continue practicing Taichi. With demons to deal with, Kishi had less and less time to visit Ren. Days turned into weeks. Turned into months ,and soon enough Kishi stopped showing up. Despite this, Ren's training didn't. It was the one consistency in his life he still held onto. Ren enjoyed training. It brought him comfort to have something to pass idle time with.
