Apparently to pull off a convincing imitation of Blue, you have to be an idiot.
I have absolutely no idea why the impostor thought a poem would be the best way to prove that he's the real deal. He probably just needed to act more arrogant. Or maybe he should have just had a bunch of bad things happen to him. That would have done it.
