Notes: Couple of cuties for you. (\/) :3 (\/) Mantigore’s original appearance in Gods and Demons was a little purple (ha) so I’d probably just finished reading a Guy Gavriel Kay novel, although the previous chapter is Discworld-y with the narrative asides.

Mantigore only has one weakness–ground–and it can fly. WTF. Luckily, flyers aren’t as uniformly immune to ground-type attacks in the Gods and Demons universe, and if you’re in the air using air-type energy to fly (which most pokemon do, being unaerodynamic as hell), air is essentially your third type. Like in Fire Emblem, being able to fly is a huge mobility advantage, but you pay for it by being exploded by arrows. Originally its ability would have been Levitate, coming off the high of gen 3 as I was, but that ability should only be for pokemon that actually float by some unseen force. I’ve instead split the flying type into air-type and pokemon-that-can-fly (which explains Doduo).

The original Mardyakhor has less of the scorpion stuff going on and a human head, but I’m okay with the place where the modern D&D-derived monster looks have taken it.

Mantigore appears in Chapter 9 of Gods and Demons 2.0.
