Umbreon got hit by the Raichu, causing him to fly back a bit.
"Umbreon, are you okay?" Jack asked. But Umbreon looked pretty weak, so Jack gave the command:
"Use Moonlight!" The Umbreon absorbed the moonlight, causing him to heal back a bit. Jack knew that Raichu were going to switch out now, so he had to be on his watch.

"Scepter, you're up real quick!" Tim smiled, sending out his partner from the beginning, "Leaf Storm, now!"

Scepter the Sceptile whipped up a vortex of pointed leaves, concentrating them into a single strand that shot sky high. He stood, ready to send it at Umbreon.

"Scatter those leaves in all directions!" Tim ordered. Scepter didn't even question the order, though it was an odd question. He sent the leaves every which way, covering the battlefield.

"Umbreon, use Dark Pulse to try and surround yourself with it." Jack ordered. The Umbreon was quick and in about three seconds surrounded by darkness. But the Leaf Storm was just sent out over the battlefield, missing Umbreon completely.

Ajax wandered out onto the grounds of stadium two, his previously allocated opponent Yania had withdrawn from the event so his new opponent was set to be a Kalosian trainer named Topaz, from the little research he’d been able to do on the guy, he seemed impressive so at least the first battle wasn’t going to be a bland one.
As he took his place at one end of the battlefield he finally allowed himself to take in the roars and cheers of the crowd
“Finally the battling is actually getting started!” Yelled a familiar voice, the still unknown but instantly recognizable voice of Ajax’s favorite audience member, though this time Ajax was able to put a face to the voice. A tall slender girl seemingly not much younger than Ajax himself.

Shaking himself free from his momentary trance he took out his first Poke-ball tossing it lightly in his hand while he waited for Topaz to arrive

Topaz yawned as he entered the stadium, he felt as though the first round of any tournament was a complete waste of time. The cheers from the audience did not phase him in the slightest, due to his celebrity status as a grand duke, he was accustomed to lots of cheering. Topaz hadn’t bothered to research his opponent was, he didn’t perceive him as much of a threat. Sure, people had told him about how supposedly powerful Ajax is with his 16 badges, but Topaz was unimpressed. He knew that gym leaders were powerful, but from a very early age he learned that the highest level of trainers didn’t bother running gyms. As he reached his side of the battle field he tossed a pokeball upwards, then caught it and pointed at his opponent with it while he waited for the battle to officially begin.

“The battle between Ajax and Topaz is about to begin, both trainers are allowed to use 6 Pokemon, first trainer to lose all their Pokémon loses the match. Topaz Song as Grand Duke, the first move is yours” said the announcer, clearly trying to squeeze every ounce of fame out of the match up for the benefit of the tournaments sponsors. Ajax simply rolled his eyes and gave the Duke an overly mocking bow.

Topaz appreciated the recognition, but was angered by Ajax’s patronizing bow. I’ll show him he thought. “The pleasure of first move can go to Ajax.” He announced loudly to the referee so the crowd could hear. The audience roared with excitement at the bold, yet cocky move from Topaz. The referee seemed a little taken aback, but then regained his composure. “Very well, the honor of first move has been charitably given to the opponent, Ajax!” The referee announced, Topaz smirked to himself “After all, he needs it.”

Ajax laughed boldly, he had managed to get under Topaz’s skin and even better he’d won himself the first move
“Very well your Grace, I believe it is only appropriate to lead with a Pokemon most fitting for your social status. It is said that every Rose has its thorns, we’ll this Rose definitely has thorns. Ladies and Gentlemen please welcome to the arena the Emerald Thorn herself Rose” Ajax threw a intricately painted pokeball High into the sky, from which emerged a small Ferrothorn, her metallic body overlayed with decorative designs of roses and vines. “And while we’re talking about thorns why not set up a few of our own, with Stealth Rock” Yelled Ajax as Rose smash her flail like arms into the ground sending stones flying all over the stadium. Some of which seemed to miraculously hover above the rest ready to spike any Pokemon to appear

Topaz couldn’t help but laugh at Ajax’s introduction of his Pokémon, never before had he seen something so ridiculous in an official tournament. “Empoleon.” Was all he said as he sent out the large penguin Pokémon. Pointed rocks instantly shot at Empoleon, but the Pokémon seemed unfazed. “Defog.” Topaz stated as the Pokémon flapped it’s wings, clearing the field of the stealth rocks. “Now let’s use our own stealth rocks.” Suggested Topaz. The emperor Pokémon slammed its wing into the ground, sending rocks hovering above the opposing side of the battle field, waiting for a Pokémon to pass through there.

Ajax laughed and smiled
“What’s wrong Your Grace? Where’s the pomp and ceremony? The grandiose displays to distract people from the fact that the Battle Chateau isn’t a true Battle Facility! Not like that of my Mentor the Pyramid King Brandon.” Ajax knew what he was doing, but it wasn’t as if it wasn’t true. The chateau was a notorious in Sinnoh and Hoenn as a second rate facility for third rate trainers.
“Rose stealth rock again then Bulldose!” Not unlike she had before Rose sent a huge array of stones flying across the field before slamming her flails into the ground sending walls of earth in all directions.

Topaz didn’t bother responding to his opponents taunts, despite being younger, he was very mature and preferred to let his battling do the talking. He believed trash talking was just a way to compensate for lack of talent; after all, the greatest trainer, Red, was completely silent in his later years. “Earthquake.” He commanded his Pokémon. Empoleon slammed his wing into the ground once more, causing the ground to shatter. The strong attack completely overpowered and nullified the bulldoze, and cracked the ground as it approached Ferrothorn. “Now brick break.” Topaz ordered. The penguin immediately jumped with great speed, and suddenly appeared over Ferrothorn with his wing held above him and glowing an orange red, poised to attack.

Rose did little to try to block the attack, instead she hunkered down to at least try to defend herself from the full power of the attack, before the attack hit her spiky metallic shell, the attack. Her spikes lashing out to hit Empoleon.
“Now Rose!” Yelled Ajax, as Rose’s Thorny Flail tendrils appeared from around the Emperor Pokemon and in unison begin to glow with a green astral thorns before swinging them around to try and hit the Empoleon’s chest.

“Quick Iron defense!” Topaz shouted. Just before impact Empoleon’s chest turned metallic, and while it couldn’t prevent the damage coming from the thorns, it definitely minimized it. The penguin was knocked back a bit, but quickly regained its footing. Topaz knew he had to isolate the protective whip like thorns. “Ice Beam.” He commanded. Empoleon shot a blast of ice as the Ferrothorn, hoping to freeze one of its vines to the ground.

Rose pushed off from the ground in an effort to avoid the attack, however the icy blast still clipped one of the flail-like bulbs at the end of her vines encasing it in a chunk of ice so thick that it covered even the largest of thorns. Though the vine was still free to move
“Very well then Rose, it’s time to take things up an notch, Thorn of Malice!” Yelled Ajax finally able to use one of the combination moves he had created with his Pokemon, this particular combination involved Power whip and Gyro Ball. As before Rose once again raised her thorny vines into the air before beginning to spin rapidly, her vines still visibly coated in the thorny projection and flailing viciously as Rose spun. Then with blinding speed she launched herself toward Empoleon, body coated in the projective energy of gyro-ball with the dangerous threat of the not only heavily thorned but also blindingly fast vines ever present.

The Ferrothorn was coming towards Empoleon with great speed, and Topaz knew it was time to finish things off. Common knowledge said that due to Ferrothorn’s great rotational velocity, it would not be able to change directions quickly, therefore leaving it vulnerable; and basic physics told him that Ferrothorn would have little to no power at the center of the spinning. “Aqua jet then brick break.” Topaz ordered his Pokémon. Empoleon quickly shot up, cloaked in water and appeared above Ferrothorn, in what looked like the eye of the thorn filled storm. Its wing glowed orange and it quickly began to strike down, about to slam into the exposed thorn Pokémon.

Rose’s storm of thorns was definitely brewing, the swirling typhoon of energy was beginning to take its Toll on Rose. Though she wasn’t out yet, her Signature move did have a final trump card Ajax had added in the days before the tournament
“Now Rose! STORM THORN!” The very tips of Rose’s flails begun to glow yellow creating a luminous band around the spinning mass, that was Rose’s body as storm clouds begun to stir overhead. A single gigantic bolt of lightning struck Rose, electrifying the Pokemon just before Empoleons impact and sending sparks and arcs blasting in all directions as the electricity caught the organic and metallic sections of Rose’s appendages. The brick break hit her nonetheless, sending her body spinning out and crashing into a large boulder.
Rose stayed there for a time before finally struggling to lift herself from the ground, electric sparks still radiating around her body, and the Thorn Pokemon swayed dangerously where she stood.

Empoleon was flung backwards after being struck by the thunder. The attack would’ve finished him off, but thankfully Empoleon had great endurance. Still the impressive combo did a great amount of damage and Empoleon looked like he couldn’t continue much longer. Under normal circumstances, Topaz would have withdrew his Pokémon, sparing it from over exhaustion. But this was the biggest tournament he had ever entered, and he knew in order to win all of his Pokémon had to be pushed to their limits. “Earthquake.” Topaz demanded as the Pokémon sent its wing flying into the ground once more, creating a fissure that shot towards the Ferrothorn.

Sparks continued to radiate from around Rose’s body as she swayed back and fought, leaning back against the rock behind her on more than one occasion.
Ajax knowing Rose wouldn’t withstand the attack smiled and went to return the Pokemon, but Rose let out a dismissive cry and rose to her feet again. A steely look in her eyes as her body begun to glow a blinding white before exploding violently. The shockwave sending dust flying in all directions before revealing a freshly fainted Rose
“Excellent work Rose, though the explosion was definitely a surprise, rest now” said Ajax as he returned the Pokemon
“Rose the Ferrothorn is unable to battle, the first point goes to Topaz!” Yelled the battle referee as the crowd cheered in anticipation of the next battle.

Empoleon was blown back by the explosion and knocked to the ground. Topaz knee the Pokémon had the strength for one, maybe two more moves. He didn’t like the idea of clearing the stealth rocks from his opponent’s side of the field, but he couldn’t risk Ajax taking out Empoleon before he had time to clear out his own side. “Defog.” He commanded, and the Pokémon once again let a gust of wind go from its wings, ridding both sides of the field of the waiting rocks. “Alright Empoleon, get ready.” Topaz encouraged his Pokémon as it slowly rose from the ground. Hopefully I’ll be able to get an attack or two off on his next Pokémon, just to get a little advantage he thought.

“Ladies and Gentlemen i believe it’s time we add another Water type to this battle, please welcome to the arena, The Crimson Shadow! Genji!” Ajax Yelled as he threw yet another intricately decorated pokeball into the sky, this one had been painted an iridescent black which appeared a deep blood red in certain light.
From which emerged a jet black Greninja who hopped from leg to leg impatiently.
“Now Genji lets start things off with Double team and then Power-up Punch!” The single ninja Pokémon disappeared in a puff of smoke before a series of duplicates appeared all around Ajax’s side of the battle field. Before long the group all raced towards Empoleon fists glowing a fiery amber colour, deliberately weaving in and amongst themselves in order to obscure which one was the original as well as to make themselves more difficult to hit.

Topaz waited until all the Greninja were close. “Now, whirlpool” he commanded. The Empoleon out stretched both its wings and spun quickly, creating a water funnel that trapped the clones inside, making them vanish one after the other. Once only the real one was left, Topaz knew it was time for Empoleon’s final gambit. “Brick Break!” He shouted. Empoleon took the hit from the power up punch to the stomach but swung its glowing wing around immediately after, hoping to hit the now vulnerable greninja.

Greninja’s blood red tongue lit up briefly with a spectral glow and swung lazily around its body before the brick break slipped through Genji’s entire body, leaving the Pokemon unharmed.
Ajax smiled and let out a grandiose declaration once more as Genji returned to his own side of the field with a gymnastic flourish “not only is Genji uniquely colored, you’ll also find that his skills are also very particular. Now Genji lets go with Shadow sneak!” Genji suddenly dropped through his shadow as if it were a pool of water and appeared silently behind Empoleon, with his arms coated in a ghostly aura.

Empoleon stumbled to the ground, perhaps if it had not already battled Ferrothorn he could’ve put up a bit of a fight, but in his weakened state, Empoleon was greatly out classed. Topaz returned Empoleon and sent out his next Pokémon “Go Scrafty.” The reptilian hoodlum pokémon popped out of the pokeball. “Dragon Dance.” A purple ring surrounded Scrafty as it took a fighting stance. The ring flared up then subsided, leaving a prepared Scrafty poised for battle, looking much more powerful.

“Two can play at that game! Genji Dragon dance and then Power up punch!” Genji conjured a similar purple ring around himself, eyes glowing a deep amethyst hue before launching forward with blinding speed his arms glowing with a fiery amber hue matched by Genji’s newly amber eyes. The Greninja seemed to slip in and out of sight due to the extreme speed of the Pokemon

Going to have to briefly remind some of you to read the rules - forcing a hit is autoing. You can launch an attack at another person's character, but it's up to the person being attacked to determine whether the attack hit, not you.

Dylan and lucario had been watching from the stands, and after seeing what those pokemon can do, he knew he would have to push his team to their limits. "This battle has been pretty intense so far... I wonder what will happen next"

“Detect.” The Scrafty prepared itself for the incredibly fast attack coming its way and seemingly blocked it with ease. “Now, grab Greninja and use toxic then throat chop!” Topaz shouted, he knew his only chance against Greninja was if he fought defensively and slowly chipped away at its health.

“Gunk shot!” The Greninja coughed up a large ball of sludge and spat it toward Scrafty’s face as his eyes turned a sickly purple colour. The Scrafty’s toxic attack bounced off Genji’s body harmlessly before the throat chop hit him directly in his tongue wrapped neck. The attack knocked Genji back across the field.
“Hahaha not bad Topaz, but the throat chop won’t really effect Genji all that much, he’s mute anyway” Smiled Ajax as his Pokemon regained his feet with an acrobatic flip and flourish.

Scepter remained standing in a field of quickly drying leaves. He didn't know what Tim's plan was, but he sure trusted him.

"Scepter, switch out with Carl!" Tim ordered, replacing his Sceptile with an Arcanine. The feisty canine seemed to smile leeringly at his opponent.

This next move was either going to knock everyone's socks off or blow up in their face. But Tim didn't know what other approach to take.

"Carl, use Flamethrower to incinerate those leaves."

Carl cocked one eyebrow. Then it clicked. He unhinged his jaw and let the flames roll out over the field, completely encasing Scepter's leaves in a raging inferno. Not only were the smoldering leaves capable of causing some (albeit minimal damage), but the smoke blocked the open roof overhead.

"No more Moonlight," Tim said, smiling.

—Time skip to end of battle—

“Topaz’s last Pokemon is unable to battle, Ajax is the winner” Yelled the referee from the sidelines of the battlefield
“And with that Ladies and Gentlemen, the Sinnohan Striker Ajax moves onto the next round of the competition. Despite being the supposed under-dog of this match-up Ajax was able to pull through and really show case some amazing battling skills” cheered one of the stadium’s commentators as Ajax waved briefly to the crowd before turning and walking back to the waiting area.
‘One down, two to go’ he thought as a subtle smile crossed his lips.

Jack was first confused on what Tim was doing, but his confused face quickly turned into a surpised one.
"Well, not forever." Jack said, calmly. "Now, use Shadow Claw!" Umbreon took up one of his paws and it looked like claws made out of shadows. In high speed he was running towards the Arcanine, trying to hit it with his claws. Jack knew that if he switched out to Blastoise he would have a type advantage, but he wanted to be careful.

The extended claws of shade crashed into Carl, knocking him back a few inches.

Tim needed a quick response while Umbreon was still in range, but couldn't decide on what. He could unleash another powerful Flamethrower in the Eeveelution's face, or use a move that had a type advantage. Unfortunately, it wouldn't pack too much of a punch. Or perhaps Outrage. No added boost in power like Flamethrower, but a strong move all the same.

"Carl, your call, make it fast!" Tim blurted out.

Carl's instincts kicked in as he immediately used another Flamethrower, directed right at Umbreon this time.

"Umbreon, dodge it!" Jack ordered, but it was too late. The flamethrower hit Umbreon in the face, making him fly back a bit. Umbreon tried to get up, but after putting up against three Pokemon he was to tired, and fainted.
"Good job." Jack whispered, as he took out a new Pokeball. Jack opened it up, sending out a Blastoise.
"Use Hydro Pump." Jack ordered, and Blastoise sent out a thick laser of water, and it would hit hard if it landed.

Carl tumbled backwards, drenched in the water. Tim thrust his Arcanine's Pokeball out, ready to call him back. Instead, Carl charged up, his dampened fur crackling with electricity.

With all of the strength he could muster, he tore across the battlefield towards Blastoise with Wild Charge. As he could feel himself losing momentum, he shut his eyes and focused only on the pounding of his feet across the ground. Now stumbling, Carl let out a mighty roar and attempted to at least throw some of the lightning off of his body and towards Blastoise. He then crumpled like wet paper, and returned to his Pokeball, no longer able to battle.

"Lono, you're back up!" Tim said, sending out his Alolan Raichu.

"Blastoise, Return!" The Blastoise shot himself towards the Raichu, ready to hit it hard. Jack and his Blastoise had alot of friendship, so the attack would hit hard. Jack's strategy was formulating the attack so it sounded like Blastoise was returning to his Pokeball, when in reality he were attacking.

"Switching so quickly?" Tim mused, "Lono, we can handle whatever he throws at-"

Except, of course, for the trick play. Blastoise slammed into Lono, who instinctively reacted with a Psychic attack.

"Should've seen that coming," Tim admitted, "That one's on me, Lono."

After the trick worked Jack realised that he was completely out of ideas. Plus the Psychic attack hit Blastoise, throwing him into the nearest wall and hurting him badly.
"Blastoise, Hydro Pump!" Simple attacks was the only thing that Jack could really come up with, so he would have to try and go with as many effective attacks as possible.

Lono, Tim's flexible Alolan Raichu, did a quick loop on her tail around the gushing water, and contemplated what to do, rather than rushing in headstrong. A Thunderbolt would be an easy way, but Blastoise was all too prepared.

"Lono, let's keep our momentum going with Thunderbolt!" Tim hollered, beaming. He was gonna do this.

However, Lono opted for a Disarming Voice rather than a Thunderbolt. Tim clenched his jaw, confused. He knew Lono was all about adaptive battles, but he figured she'd at least listen. Not listening was what brought Carl down. Surely, she had a plan. But still- the ancient practices of her homeland (Johto) should've led her to listen to her trainer.

Lono opened her mouth and belted the prettiest song she could. She'd learned from the greatest Pokemon vocal teacher: Donna the Primarina! A fun little side journey on their trip through Alola. Now, the lessons were paying off with the powerful chords Lono was hitting.

Blastoise didn't have the best vision, but he could hear like a bat. He heard were the voice was coming from, and quickly jumped to the side. But when the sound turned to hit him again, he was taken by surprise, and got hit.

"Blastoise, Rapid Spin." The Blastoise went into it's shell and started spinning like crazy, before shooting itself towards the Raichu, in incredible speed.

As Blastoise skirted along the even terrain of the first round, Lono tried to up the tempo and intensity of her song. Her Disarming Voice crescendoed into a belting melody. Alas, it was not enough.

Blastoise caught the teensy Raichu in his swirling shell, eventually sending her sky high. The shock was too much. She couldn't flick her surfboard tail out to catch her fall. When she landed, she was out cold.

"Lono, return. You did good out there," Tim said, shelving his initial disappointment, "Scepter, you again!"

The brave Sceptile leapt onto the field, ready to win this for Tim. He'd finish off Jack's whole team if he had to.

Knowing Scepter would listen, Tim called out his first order in a new strategy of his, "Seed Bomb!"

Scepter zipped back and forth across the barren field, dropping dimly glowing leaf pouches as he sprinted. Once he was done, he came to a standstill, grinned, and flicked his tail back and forth. The bombs erupted all across the field.
