World of Reflections - Birthstone RP concept

So this is less an actual discussion, thread moreso attempting to drum up ideas and possible members for those interested in the idea I had for an roleplay.

In the small, picturesque town of Ertensoul, a peaceful area for those seeking a quiet life, or those with enough money to build extremely large properties there, life is continuing as it always has, as if time has stopped. There’s a thriving nearby school that grows in student numbers with every new year, a titanic local library with collections amassed from years upon years back, and many abandoned fields with rather dangerous passages to underground cave systems that somebody really ought to block up. If they were aware they existed, of course.

However, 12 students from the local school find themselves imbued with a strange power, a phenomenon unique only to the town, and to them:
At midnight, if still up and about, they seem to find themselves almost instantenously in a very different Ertensoul. This seemingly timeless world of reflections and refractions holds many secrets of the town around them- sometimes, seeing the twisted illusions that reflect reality there can unearth hidden truths. However, from the mirages in the Reflection World, the chosen twelve have one defense: Special abilities imbued into each of them only while in the Reflection World, corresponding to the Birthstone of their month. Through the use of the Reflection World, will the Birthstone Warriors be able to uncover the truth about the town in reality, and free both it and the Reflection World from the terror gnawing at it from right in plain sight?

Well, with that excessively over the top summary out of the way, yeah that’s the concept. For more elaboration, the Twelve Birthstone Warriors were each chosen from the schoolchildren for having been born in that specific month, and were assigned to those specific Birthstone related powers. The Reflection World is like a warped, illusory maze version of the town, that despite the reversed nature of things, also seems to hide some rather major truths in its refractions of reality. I have most of the actual backstory and plot ideas written, and i’ll probably have to take the role of a few of the Birthstone Warriors myself for that extent (after all, it wouldn’t be that exciting if they all aligned together too quickly now, would it?), but this is mostly a way of finding people who would be interested, and knowing which Birthstone they would want for their characters, before I actually end up taking some. I’m also gonna throw down my general list I planned to use here- the powers and new forms they receive will be kind of based on these gemstones and what they represent, as well as the characters own past or personality in certain cases. I also took the liberty of choosing the most easy/well known variations of the different Birthstones from the many different versions, so if anyone does have one they want to see on there, if they can give a reason as to why it would be better and could be used more effectively i’ll take that into consideration.

1/January: Garnet
Represents faith, love and constancy. Directional guidance in the darkness, making it useful for travelers.

2/February: Amethyst
Strengthens relationships, gives its wearer courage. Guards against intoxication.

3/March: Bloodstone/Aquamarine
Bloodstone: Healing and cleansing properties. Enhancing energy and strength. Feeling safe and grounded.
Aquamarine: Honesty, loyalty and beauty. Can bring love and affection back into a failing relationship.

4/April: Diamond
Balance, clarity, abundance, inner strength, eternal love. Purity and strength. Associated with mystery and magic.

5/May: Emerald
Rebirth and hope. Calm and healthy.

6/June: Pearl/Alexandrite
Pearl: Purity, chastity and marriage. An increase of personal integrity and growth. Protection from fire. Wealth and status.
Alexandrite: extremely rare, empowerment and joy, sees the beauty in every moment.

7/July: Ruby
Health and wisdom. Good fortune. Freedom. Sincere and hardworking.

8/August: Peridot/Sardonyx
Peridot: Protection from Nightmares, symbolises strength. Dignity, fame and prosperity. Wards off negativity from the mind.
Sardonyx: Courage, happiness, and clear communication. Stability, spirituality and strength.

9/September: Sapphire
Purity and wisdom, guards against envy and harm. Attracted heavenly blessings.

10/October: Opal/Tourmaline
Opal: Purity and wisdom, faithfulness and confidence. Protects eyesight.
Tourmaline: Couldn’t find anything for some reason.

11/November: Topaz
Love and affection. Strength and intellect. Stops death. Cures physical and mental illnesses.

12/December: Zircon/Lapis Lazuli
Zircon: Oldest mineral on earth. Spiritual growth and wisdom. Peace. Creativity.
Lapis Lazuli: Royalty and honour, spirit and vision. Truth, meditation. Inspiration, blocks negative energy. Perfect for clearing emotional baggage.

So to further detail how the Birthstone powers in the Reflection World would work, I made a little list of potential examples. Of course, all of this is subject to change. All the powers require the user to be in their “Birthstone Form”, a state that can only be achieved via- you guessed it- an ANIME TRANSFORMATION SEQUENCEEEEEE while in the Reflection World, unless the ability specifies otherwise. These new forms come with a specific weapon, and... SOME sort of armour as standard, varying between each user. Remember that some of the more existential powers can be just as useful in terms of story, due to the nature of the Reflection World and the monsters that dwell in it. Also, if some of these seem way stronger than others or more dangerous, it’s possible that was intentional. All the Birthstone users will rarely if ever be in very large groups, and, for example-
The Diamond user was who I intended to use as the first antagonist, so their ability is more impactful than most others.

Garnet:
The user of the Garnet Birthstone has an ability unlike the other Birthstone users. The Garnet user has the ability to use one of their powers, even in the real world, that being to create a portal to the Reflection World, no matter what the time is. This can also be used while in the Reflection World to create a portal back out, even if the user is not in Garnet form. This portal can only take 3 people, and it’s impossible to create more than one at a time. While in Garnet form in the Reflection World, the user gains a kind of super sense that allows them to sense the approach of Reflection beings and the direction they are heading, as well as see in the dark.
(Navigator.)

Amethyst:
While in Amethyst form in the Reflection World, the Amethyst user gains a special power of bonds and courage. They get stronger as they take damage, like enhanced adrenaline. The Amethyst user and those around them are also protected from the various poisons and gases that are used by the creatures of the Reflection World.
(Dishes out more damage the more damage they take, helps guard from status effects.)

Diamond:
While in Diamond form in the Reflection World, the user of the Diamond Birthstone gains the unshakable power of total clarity. They can absorb information about the real world from the minds of Reflection beings, information they can perfectly retain, even in the real world! This dangerous power can also be used to erase the memories of those in the real world and alter their perception of events, by targeting their Reflection self, like a ripple effect. When the Erase power is used on a Reflection World being, it instead temporarily stuns them, the lasting effects only applying in the real world.
(A fighter with the ability to stun enemies, and drain knowledge from them of objectives and upcoming threats.)

Emerald:
While in Emerald Form in the Reflection World, the user of the Emerald Birthstone gains the ability of a hopeful rebirth! They can revive their allies that have already fallen in the Reflection World. The motivational presence of this power allows the user, as well as those around them, to be protected from the negative emotional influences put upon them by Reflection beings.
(Reviver/Medic, helps guard from Stat debuffs.)

Ruby:
While in Ruby form in the Reflection World, the user of the Ruby Birthstone gains the ability of supernatural fortune! They’re just naturally lucky, as well as boosting all their physical attributes, a power that can become surprisingly effective with hard work and effort, due to its reliability.
(Increased Luck stat, a brawler with increased physical attributes.)

Sapphire:
While in Sapphire form in the Reflection World, the user of the Sapphire Birthstone gains the pure ability to protect themselves and their allies from harm! The Heavenly Barriers they can create act as walls of solid light. However, despite their magical properties, and ability to appear from nowhere, as well as deflect certain non-physical attacks, they do operate similar to glass, and lack durability, thus will shatter completely under strain, leaving behind no trace.
(Defensive Mage with the ability to reflect projectiles.)

Topaz:
While in Topaz form in the Reflection World, the user of the Topaz Birthstone gains the ability of strength and determination against all harm, allowing them to preserve themselves and their allies on the brink of defeat, saving that person just once at the last sliver of their vitality, like a second chance. They can also cure the physical and mental suffering and damage of those in the real world, through contact with that person’s Reflection self.
(A fighter that can keep allies about to fall alive on 1 HP!)

Bloodstone:
While in Bloodstone form in the Reflection World, the user of the Bloodstone Birthstone gains the ability of healing and cleansing! They can heal their allies, and all blood spilt can be conjured back into the person’s body. However, any major wounds are gonna stay that way. The Bloodstone user also has the power of grounding, allowing them to abuse the laws of gravity for their own benefit! If knocked into the air or sent flying, their body naturally attracts itself back to the ground, causing them to get right back to Earth in a jiffy! ... It’s probably a good idea to watch out for any steep drops, though. It can’t exactly control HOW you fall.
(Healer)

Aquamarine:
While in Aquamarine form in the Reflection World, the Aquamarine Birthstone user gains the ability to tap into the minds of others, as well as Reflection beings. They can use this to view the links between those Reflection beings and people from the real world, allowing connections to be drawn as to what exactly they are or what they represent, as well as seeing if those connections are positive or negative. This grants them the ability to coordinate with their allies by reading their minds, as well as get a greater understanding of how the Reflection beasts tick than any of their allies.
(Mind reader)

Pearl:
While in Pearl form in the Reflection World, the user of the Pearl Birthstone gains the power of purity! They can soothe and calm rampaging Reflection beings, making them more like what they originally were, allowing them to get to the root of the problem causing them. The Pearl user and those around them gain protection from heat and fire. Another trait of the Pearl user is that their powers seem to work most effectively when alone, or separated from their group. The more allies around, the less effective their powers seem to be.
(Speedy solo fighter, helps guard from fire damage.)

Alexandrite:
While in Alexandrite form in the Reflection World, the user of the Alexandrite Birthstone gains the ability to analyse and scan Reflection beings with their own minds! This can reveal the powers, attributes and weak spots of these creatures to the user through a series of visions. However, it requires a keen eye for detail, as these visions can be difficult to understand. These visions also usually don’t include information as to what the Reflection being actually is in the real world, or the cause behind it.
(Scanner)

Peridot:
While in Peridot form in the Reflection World, the Peridot user gains the ability to ward off negativity! Their own strength and durability is increased, but Reflection beings whose negative aspects would affect the user, or those around them, seem to be quelled slightly by the Peridot users warding power. While morale is up, the Peridot user is stronger, however while hopes are low and things are looking bad, the Peridot users powers can almost seem to function in reverse.
(Fighter who helps dispel debuffs, and is stronger the higher morale is!)

Sardonyx:
While in Sardonyx form in the Reflection World, the Sardonyx user gains the ability of Telepathy! They can convey a stable message directly into the minds of allies and enemies alike! Their presence also seems to reinforce the powers of others, making those abilities more stable and controlled as a result.
(Telepath, gives increased accuracy and consistency to the powers of others!)

Opal:
While in Opal form in the Reflection World, the user of the Opal Birthstone gains the power of faith. Through sheer force of belief, they can empower others! However, this ability only seems to stick to one target at a time. The Opal user also has the ability to draw themselves towards their teammates, in a glide-like movement, by focusing on a specific target. It can be difficult to redirect once it’s started. It is also difficult to stun or blind the user of this Birthstone.
(Can buff a single ally by sticking to them. Helps guard from stuns. Can glide from teammate to teammate.)

Zircon:
While in Zircon form in the Reflection World, the user of the Zircon Birthstone gains the ability of wisdom and leadership! Their ability to analyse problems and come up with solutions works naturally faster, and their presence enhances teamwork! However, when things are discordant and chaotic, or too much is going on at once, this can overload a Zircon users powers, so to speak.
(Leader, relies on order for power)

Lapis Lazuli:
While in Lapis Lazuli form in the Reflection World, the user of the Lapis Lazuli Birthstone gains the ability of fortitude and focus! By staying still, closing their eyes, taking a meditative stance, or any other way that helps the user calm and focus on one thing, the user of this Birthstone can charge up a powerful blast of energy in a sphere like radius around them that can cancel out the distractions of Reflection beings powers, including those of other birthstones. This power also allows them to clear their own mind rather effectively.
(Charges up to prepare powerful attacks, or buff their own stats)

Mkay then, Imma make my Character then.

Aside from that, I actually have most of the plot planned out. However, there’s lots of room for improvisations- by that I mean, smaller, and more character related subplots can happen on the fly while nothing major is progressing in the actual plot, to give the different groups of Birthstone Warriors things to do. After all, issues pop up all the time in the real world, and those issues are only magnified in the Reflection World. So it’d be nice if people want to take initiative, and work in the potential for a few of these themselves.

However, as well as the twelve Birthstone warriors (who I do sort of plan to have discover their powers in Month order of their Gems), I need people to play certain plot relevant characters. I might just end up doing some of these myself, but if anyone wants to do it, I’ll discuss it with them in private, let them know what their role is, but other than that and what they need to do, they have a lot of free reign.

These specific plot relevant, non-Birthstone Warrior roles are as follows-
1- The local librarian, who has a deep knowledge on the towns history, and is beginning to catch on to the supernatural properties of the town, and it’s strange occurrences.

2- A popular girl from the local school, who is completely unashamed of manipulating others to get ahead in life. She proudly knows nearly every secret or piece of gossip in the school- nothing gets past her, and if anything does, then she’ll find out by hook or by crook.

3- An outcast kid from the local school, who is feared by most. Bully might not even be the correct word, as he mostly just seems to hold a deep anger that he takes out on anyone or anything he can. However, he’s far from liked.

Now, I’ll also just drop this massive list of the Birthstone based powers here, as well as an RPG-Esque summary of their role (best way I could think of).
Garnet:
The user of the Garnet Birthstone has an ability unlike the other Birthstone users. The Garnet user has the ability to use one of their powers, even in the real world, that being to create a portal to the Reflection World, no matter what the time is. Now, one thing I’ll be putting out there is that since the Garnet Birthstone should be the first to awaken, and has one of the most unique abilities, whoever picks that is gonna have a lotta work, to put it mildly.
I’ll also say that I reserved the Diamond Birthstone for one of the first antagonists.
So, since this is probably needed, I’ll post the character template now.

Name:
Age: (For the school students, since it’s a high school, between 14 and 18 )
Gender:
Personality:
Appearance:
Birthday: (This is gonna be there for everybody, but why it is should be obvious)
Backstory/Bio: (This doesn’t need to be too long, but knowing what they’ve been getting up to in their life up until this point would be pretty useful.)
Other:

For the Birthstone Warriors, a short explanation of their powers should also be provided. In regards to that, you can honestly just rip it directly from what I posted for that Gem, unless you have any new ideas, in which you can just ask.
Another note for the Birthstone Warriors is that their Birthstone Form, a state they can transform into while in the Reflection World, that gives them their powers, brings about a costume change (after a transformation sequence of course because this is 2019), and that should probably be added in. However, you have time to think on that.

Here’s the bio for an important Reflection Being, that is- well, his motivations are shaky to say the least. He certainly seems to support the Birthstone Warriors, but he doesn’t want to actively help them or teach them what to do, to instead let them figure that out themselves.

Name: Will’O
Age: A rude question he would never give you the answer to. However, if I had to estimate... A LOT is the most accurate measurement.
Gender: Male
Personality: Will’O is a snarky and lax individual. He doesn’t seem to take too much seriously, or ever put his all into things, effort a foreign concept to him. He’s quick with a wisecrack or chiding remark, and although his laid back jokester attitude can make him easy to get along with, his refusal to try and help with anything ever can be extremely infuriating.
Appearance: https://pokecharms.com/works/birthstone-warriors-reflection-being-willo.51748/
Birthday: ??? Do Reflection Beings even have, or remember these?
Backstory/Bio: This will be revealed throughout the course of the RP. Will’O seems to mostly reside in the town library, where he has apparently lay dormant for ages, only awakened by the return of the latest batch of Birthstone Warriors. He seems to know much more about the Reflection World and Ertensoul than he is willing to share.

You do realize there was literally absolutely no reason to make a new thread.

I've merged both threads now. In the future, just re-purpose the existing thread for bios etc. and have a single discussion thread for all matters concerning this RP instead of cluttering up the discussion boards with multiple threads.
