Welcome to the World of Pokémon!: Kanto

The Pokémon World is full of mystery. Its promise of adventure sets fire to the hearts of young and old alike, hoping to unearth the secrets contained behind its closed doors.

Creatures called Pokémon share this world with humans. They live and work together as companions and often as partners in battle. The coexistence between humans and Pokémon is truly special, as the two very different races share an understanding that surpasses biological and communication boundaries. The relationship is nothing short of spectacular, and new discoveries are made about its proportion each day. There is no doubt that Pokémon have an unparalleled ability to relate to human emotions on an astoundingly deep level.

Some people choose to use Pokémon for selfish reasons, abusing their power for crime and war. This mistreatment and torment can cause Pokémon to close their hearts to humans. They behave aggressively and use their abilities unrestrainedly. However, wherever there is darkness, light will always appear to counteract it.

Lives in the Pokémon World are bound by their urge to heed certain callings. While for some it may be to simply become a Pokémon Master, for others it may be to understand the secrets hidden within relations with Pokémon. These callings link individuals to the world around them.

It has been three years since the defeat of Team Rocket and any criminal activity in Kanto has been virtually eliminated. Champion Red has disappeared and Blue has resigned to assisting his grandfather in his research lab, as well as keeping watch over the Viridian City Gym in Giovanni's wake. Professor Oak has planned to give a new group of beginning trainers each a PokéDex to help in collecting data for his studies. Ships carrying eager Trainers from every corner of the Pokémon World begin to dock in the Pallet Town harbor on a crisp springtime morning. Each will develop new friendships, overcome hardships, and may even have to say goodbye to loved ones. Their first step is to make their way to the lab.

There have been reports of suspicious men and women throughout the region, though further investigation is needed…
Roles
Pokémon Trainer

To put it simply, a Trainer’s goal is to be the very best, like no one ever was. They raise their Pokémon to excel in battle, developing their strength through rigorous training and devising strategies to outsmart opponents. Trainers aim to challenge the Pokémon League, a tournament held every few years at Indigo Plateau, of which they will need eight Gym Badges to compete.

- - -

Type Specialist

A Type Specialist is a subgroup of Pokémon Trainer. They are Trainers who choose to take the Pokémon League Challenge, but do so with a team of Pokémon of a specific type. Some looking for an alternative to Gym Battles may train their teams for more practical purposes.

- - -

Coordinator

Coordinators raise their Pokémon with extreme care, aiming to be acutely in tune with each other. They not only train to be strong in battle, but also must understand the aesthetic appeals of moves and abilities. Coordinators compete in Pokémon Contests, showing off their Pokémon’s appearances to earn Ribbons, which are awarded to the participants who place first, second, and third. Three Ribbons are needed to gain entrance to the Kanto Grand Festival, which pits its contestants against each other in a final Contest to earn the title of Top Coordinator.

- - -

Breeder

Breeders are more than just mere collectors. They are interested in obtaining and raising rare and unique Pokémon, studying how to manipulate different genes to garner favorable outcomes, such as moves, stats, and abilities, in eggs. Breeders not only enjoy catching and raising powerful Pokémon for battle, but also developing strong friendships with them. They have unparalleled ability to connect with wild Pokémon, and they begin their journeys with eggs and Pokémon with numerous egg moves.

- - -

Researcher

It is difficult to classify Pokémon Researchers because there is such a variety of topics they specialize in. Some seek to invent new types of Poké Balls, while others study specific species, hoping to have their findings published in scientific journals. What unites all Researchers, however, is an undying love for raising Pokémon. Many leave home on journeys to learn more about the region, its landscapes, and the Pokémon that inhabit it. While the work of a Researcher may seem unexciting or dull to some, they fail to realize that many who study Pokémon go on to become illustrious trainers. They are capable of raising incredibly powerful Pokémon, some with moves, abilities, and appearances unlike those of the rest of their species through a deep study of their capabilities. Researchers often begin their journeys with a team of trained Pokémon, although some choose to start fresh.

- - -

Traveler

Travelers are Trainers who do not necessarily enjoy taking part in Gym Battles, but still desire the company of Pokémon and the joy of travel. They can be musicians, artists, athletes, or simply just not know what they would like to do with their journey. The possibilities for Travelers are truly endless, and many choose to pursue multiple different interests. Although they are also known to raise powerful teams of Pokémon, Travelers often have their own long-term goals, whether it is reconnecting with a loved one, searching for a treasure hidden within the region, or just wanting to find their place in the world. They truly embody the spirit of adventure and exploration.

- - -

Team Rocket Agent

Team Rocket, a sinister underground organization, is infamous for stealing Trainers’ Pokémon and abusing their power. Its members will stop at nothing to get their hands on a rare Pokémon, no matter the cost. Team Rocket Agents are stationed throughout Kanto, some choosing to engage in villainy and others choosing to lie in wait. Many are disguised as Trainers starting their journeys, hoping that forming friendships with other beginners will allow them to more easily steal their Pokémon and, subsequently, meet Team Rocket’s goal of taking over the Pokémon World. Team Rocket Agents often have their own agendas, decided at the will of the player.

How This Role Play Works
Welcome to the World of Pokémon! is a sandbox/journey taking place in the Kanto Region. The world in which the story takes place is extremely active and full of interesting characters and scenarios, so, although aspects like the Pokémon League and Grand Festival are featured, they will not serve as the primary goal for the role play and exist mostly as motivation for characters.

I want the course of the story to be dictated by the players and their interactions with one another. As the GM, I have a basis for a long-term plot, but I encourage players to create their own NPCs, conflicts, and events. I will only intervene for major plot points or if things get completely out of hand, but I really want to give free reign to those who join.

Catching Pokémon

Every Pokémon that exists within the National Pokédex is catchable in the wild as long as the environment and situation is appropriate. For example, you wouldn’t find an Onix in the middle of the ocean, but if you wanted to find an injured Bagon on Route 1 and had a good reason for it, then by all means, go ahead. Remember, most Pokémon won’t be so eager to leave their homes in the wild, so simply befriending them won’t always be enough.

Battling

All battling will be anime-style. There are no levels, so players control their own evolutions and moves. Like in the anime, Pokémon will remember all moves they have learned at some point.

Gyms and Contests

Players can choose to control the Gym Leaders for their battles or to have another player do it. Gym Leaders’ battle style will reflect their personality. (For example, Brock might try to use all-out force to beat his opponents, whereas Koga might be more tactical, relying on strategy.)

Contests consist of two rounds: the Performance Stage and the Battle Stage. In the Performance Stage, Coordinators have their Pokémon demonstrate their moves in a skillful display of charm. They are awarded points based on how creative their act is. In the Battle Stage, Coordinators must showcase their Pokémon’s style and skill in battle against others. Instead of ending when one participant’s Pokémon faint, battles in Contests end when someone’s points become fully decreased. Points can be lost when a Pokémon is hit by an attack, a Pokémon’s attack fails, the opponent performs a particularly appealing move, or when a competitor uses their opponent’s attack to their advantage. To keep things fair, players will not battle other players in Contests, but will fight against NPCs.

How did it meet its Trainer?

My Sign-Up/Example:
Name: Alex May
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Role: Coordinator
Hometown: Olivine City, Johto

Appearance: Alex is a fairly average height for his age at five feet ten inches and is neither excessively fat nor thin, but rather falls somewhere in the middle. He has a light complexion and relatively low muscle tone. Alex’s blond hair is thick and layered, and, even though he does not intentionally style it, his loose curls often take on a natural, windswept look. His light blue eyes are shielded by a pair of owlish wire-framed glasses.

Alex aims more for comfort than style in his clothing choices. He typically wear a loose-fitting white v-neck tee shirt and a pair of blue jeans, noticeably faded and torn from years of overuse. On his feet, he wears a pair of worn leather hiking books for ease when traveling over rough terrain. Alex ties a blue and red tartan pattern flannel around his waist in case he encounters any cold environments.

Personality: Alex is gentle and kind, but is also a bit clumsy. He means well, but his graceless composure can oftentimes cause problems, which leads to his fear of disappointing others. In the heat of battle, he finds it hard to keep calm, making rash decisions based on snap judgements. Despite this, he puts all of his effort into any task he takes on. He isn't exactly sure what he direction he wants to take with his life, but he is open to new experiences.

Brief Background:
Alex was born and raised on Johto's western coast, and he has always had an attraction to the sea for its calming and tranquil qualities, especially at sunset and sunrise. He had a middle class upbringing. His father was a sailor and even though he had to leave home for extended periods to provide for his family, he always brought back souvenirs for his son from the far-off lands he traveled to, all of which fascinated Alex. His mother ran the Olivine Café, a bistro in need of renovations, though many said it added to the quaint charm, that was popular with sailors who had just returned from sea and were in need of a homestyle meal. As he grew older, Alex began to wait on the bar at the Café and listen to stories of other regions, cultivating his desire to see the world. A place that especially enticed him was Johto's neighbor to the east, Kanto, due to its variety of Pokémon. Once he graduated high school, Alex's parents permitted him to leave home on a journey, believing that he was mature enough and that travel would be an enriching experience. Along the way, he hoped that he would find what he truly wanted to do with his life.

Pokémon

Nickname: Tux
Ability: Torrent
Moves: Pound, Growl, Bubble
Backstory: On one particular occasion when Alex's father returned home from the Sinnoh Region, he brought with him a weakened Piplup that had allegedly been abandoned by its Trainer and found by sailors near Canalave City's port. Tux became a familiar face in the Olivine Café, mainly being used to put out kitchen fires, of which there were many when Alex began to work there. (He does not have a talent for cooking.) The two began to bond and when it came time for him to start his journey, he decided he would bring Tux along.

He has a dark complexion and doesn't have any noticeable muscle but is still healthy. He has black hair that isn't that thick and has a short hairline. His natural eye color is hazel but he wears color contact lenses that change his eye color to gray. He could care less about fashion and just picks clothes that look comfortable. He would normally wear orange circle neck t-shirts and track pants. His shoes are hiking shoes to easily get over some hard terrain while traveling. He has a backpack to hold most of his supplies like food and water and a jacket to use when it gets cold.

Personality: Brandon is extroverted and likes talking to people but he is a kind person and tries to be an honest person, sometimes to honest for his own good. He likes being outside and exploring nature and doesn't like being in one place for a while before he just gets bored. During a pokemon battle, he tries to make decisions that will give him the advantage in the long-term so he mainly uses moves that change the terrain.
Brief Background: Brandon was born and raised in Floaroma Town, Sinnoh, he had a middle-class upbringing, his father was a berry farmer and his mother stayed at home. He always wanted to leave Sinnoh and go exploring because the farthest he could go is to Floaroma Meadow. When he was in Floaroma Meadow he looked and admired the pokemon there, The majority of pokemon he saw there were grass types so he grew attached to them. During school, he would talk a lot and that sometimes would get him into trouble, During his senior year of high school he made up his mind, that he wanted to go to another region, after looking at every region other than Sinnoh he decided that the best bet for him was to go to Kanto. So after he graduated he asked his parents to go and they agreed after seeing how well he did in school.

Oops, though I posted this yesterday.

Name: Clever Clover
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Role: Researcher (Herbalist / Unlicensed Pokemon Physician)
Hometown: Hae Hae City, Alola
Appearance: Clever has naturally dark brown, wavy hair in a messy bob cut, worn just long enough to brush her shoulders. With a heavy side part, the curtain of hair is usually just enough to hide her face and expression. It allows her to observe her surrounding discreetly, without the shine of her bright green eyes drawing attention to herself. Despite technically being an adult, Clever is still tiny in stature. Her strictly vegetarian diet has left her skinny, not fit. Standing at barely 5 ft tall, she might just tip the scale at 100 lbs soaking wet. She wears a battered pair of hiking boots, loose eastern-style cotton pants, brown tank top and a forest green vest. Her tattered shoulder bag carries all of her herbalist gear; including dozens of glass jars containing herbs, nectars, and pre-made salves, a stone bowl, pestle and slate for mixing, extra cloth for bandages and ties, a book of handwritten notes, and other various necessities.
Personality: Clever is exceedingly quiet, a habit taken from her remote lifestyle. Despite being less than proficient in just about everything except her herbalist profession, she her learned to hide her deficiencies well. She has learned to say what is necessary and no more, giving her an air of mystery and unspoken wisdom. Curing Thistle is still her ultimate goal, an obsession that takes precedence over everything else.
Brief Background: Clever hated her name. Having never known her father, she had only her mother to blame for the name. If only their surname had been something less fitting, perhaps ‘Clever’ itself wouldn't have been so bad... As it was, the combination caused her no shortage of strife in her youth, bullied by her peers and mocked by well-meaning relatives with the phrases like 'little Miss. Clever' and 'Clover the Clever' chasing her into her pre-teens. Though she smiled her way through, it never failed to create a certain amount of distance between her and the rest of the world.

Perhaps it was because of this that Clever felt such a desperate need to prove her self-worth, to live up to the intelligence her name suggested...and Pokemon battles seemed the perfect outlet. Unfortunately, despite her best efforts, Clever was a poor trainer; slow to pick up on type match-ups and hesitant in her battle commands. And as her peers began to leave her further and further behind in their Island Trail runs, she made a desperate choice that she would forever regret.

While training one evening, the conversation of a couple of Aether employees reached her ears as they left their trailer on Route 8. In hushed voices, they discussed a chemical compound they were concocting and how it would aid in 'powering' Faba's pokemon. It didn't made much sense to Clever, but if it was meant to power-up this other pokemon, surely it would help her Eevee become stronger, able to compete with her peers... Naive and desperate, Clever snuck into the Foundation's trailer, found the chemical, and injected her own pokemon.

The effect was immediate and catastrophic. The injection acted upon the Eevee like a poison; blackening his veins as they spidered away from the injection site, causing him pain, disorientation and the occasional surge of irrational rage. Clever’s meager Trial Run came to an immediate end as all her efforts poured into finding a way to reverse the effects of the injection. The local pokemon centers were baffled by the ailment and the Aether employees and their foundation denied any knowledge of the compound when she sought their help. In the end, Clever turned to Herbalism. Using the power of natural herbs and remedies, she was able to minimize the pain, cease the spread of the black ‘infected’ veins, and reduce the frequency of Thistle’s fits of madness. But she could find no cure…

As the years passed, Clever made a profession out of her obsession, concocting medicinal poultices and powders to fund her continued research into her own pokemon’s ailment. Various rumors cropped up from time to time, of miracle cures in distant regions. She never failed to follow these rumors to their source, and thought her prowess as an Herbalist grew, her discoveries had never yet proved the curative she sought. The most recent rumor to reach her ears spoke of a cure-all elixir called ‘Dragonite Tears’ found only in the distant region of Kanto...

Pokémon:

Nickname: Thistle
Species: Leafeon
Ability: Chlorophyll
Moves: Razor Leaf, Quick Attack, Grass Whistle, *Poison Fang (Bite)
Backstory: Eevee was a common sight around Hae Hae City and, as such, it was a common partner pokemon for first time trainers on Akala Island. When Clever made the poor decision to inject him with the experimental compound, Thistle lost not only his trust in his trainer, but a portion of his self and sanity as well. Random fits fueled him with irrational rage and left him snarling and snapping at any one in the vicinity. Though Thistle does blame his trainer for his condition (and rightfully so), he also regrets the single-minded obsession his latent condition has forced her into. When he is in his right mind, Thistle still cares for his trainer and trusts her to find a cure for his condition; he tries to show this by sticking close at her side.
Other: His strange ailment seemed to have altered her normal Bite attack, occasionally infecting his target with a poison-like status (thus the unusual move Poison Fang). Luckily, this transferred poison seems to be curable if treated quickly, unlike Thistles. Unwilling to chance passing the infection on a permanent bases, Clever leaves the move as a last resort in battle and always has a treatment ready to dose the victim.

Nickname: Dancer
Species: Oricorio
Ability: Dancer
Moves: Air Cutter, Covet, Tail Wind, Roost
Backstory: Dancer was found during one of Clever many herb collecting excursions, where his fiery battle dance proved a real challenge for the ailing Leafeon, and went from bad to worse as one of his fits took hold of him. Clever had thrown the poke ball out of desperation to end the battle rather than an actual desire to capture the bird, but he became a valued partner nonetheless. Though used primarily for scouting herbs from the air, Dancer also provides a reliable detriment to random battle challenged from local trainers by claiming a preference for ‘double battles’ as so many of them only carry one partner pokemon anyway. Clever also keep a small supply of the red, yellow and, purple nectars that allow Oricorio to change forms, using his various elemental powers in each to aide her profession.

@The Kitsune: Accepted! I love Clever's background!

As I said before, we will probably start within the next few days, but leave the RP open in case anyone else wants to join. I would like to get a few more players.

@Red Gallade, I would say if you know somebody who might be interested, you could message them and send them a link. However, I don't really want to advertise this where it's not wanted, as that could get annoying.

Man, I love writing characters. I hope this suits the roleplay and isn't too lengthy. Though I expect it's fine~ Either way, I'd love to join.

Name: Lloyd Abner
Age: Twenty-seven ( 27 ) years old
Gender: Male
Role: Researcher (Pokémon Raising & Behavioral Studies)
Hometown: Abner Family Ranch, a few miles from Camphrier Town – Western Kalos.

Appearance: Lloyd is a Caucasian, average weight, muscular young adult with half-long blonde hair that reaches down to the nape of his neck. His body is overall well-defined – especially his neck and collarbones. Lloyd has icy blue eyes often set in a determined, confident gaze.
Lloyd’s working attire consists mainly of sturdy clothing or overalls, but when he goes out to more public areas – or when he’s not working – he wears a grey, low-cut shirt overtop a white undershirt. A sturdy, faded brown jeans paired with some dark boots. A blue and white checkered coat and a brown beanie. As final touches to his appearance he wears a woven leather wristband and a necklace with a cross-shaped pendant.

Personality: Lloyd has a certain charm to everything he does. A gentlemanly, mostly well-mannered disposition that seems to come naturally. Though his accent gives away the rural upbringing – he certainly isn’t as boorish as the country folk stereotypes would let you to believe. Thoughtful tends to be his middle name and he is always ready to lend a hand to those who need it. However, he will never do something for anyone – and leave it at that. No, Lloyd prefers to help by showing, and explaining, how it’s done – instead of doing the task for them. He’s a great teacher; patient, thoughtful, a willingness and desire to help people grow.

His most mayor flaw is that he tends to be ‘stuck’ in the traditional ways of his former rancher life. He’s inexperienced in the field of technology and shows no desire to learn anything about it. His personal ‘Pokédex’ is a handwritten notebook with comments and drawings of the appearance and behavior of the Pokémon he tends to. Yet, while his Pokédex might be a little primitive – going as far as to handwrite a personal Pokédex should make it clear that his desire to learn about Pokémon is very real.

Brief Background: Lloyd was born and raised on the Abner Ranch – located a few miles from Camphrier Town, western Kalos. Growing up with the traditional ways of the Abner family - hard, honest work. While he did receive the most basic of educations, he spend most of his childhood and adolescence helping out on the ranch. His father would always say that being a rancher was in Lloyd’s blood. However, it was only partially true. It wasn’t the work itself that made him enjoy what he did – it was the family effort and connection to nature that made it appealing.

The Abner Ranch started generations back with the herding of Mareep for their wool. They still do herd Mareep, but over the years they’ve grown out to herding Miltank too, as well as producing their own berries to feed the substantial amount of Pokémon roaming around the ranch. Tending to the berry crop has been Lloyd’s work for the longest time – and occasionally helping out where needed. He enjoys working with nature and takes pleasure in seeing the plants growing healthily. But, there came a moment when Lloyd got the idea stuck in his head that he wanted more out of life. Go beyond the fields he knew so well and explore the world past the ranch’s fencing.

However, his connection with family was far more important than his own unfounded desires and he eventually chose the ranch over traveling the world – yet the desire to see what’s out there is persistent. Until he found a way to have it both. Traveling the world to learn from locals about raising Pokémon. Seeing how different environment and conditioning affected the Pokémon. It would help the ranch tremendously to have a more detailed understand of how Pokémon are affected by their environment and upbringing.

For this reason he would go to Pallet Town. The starting town for some of the biggest names in Pokémon training, or so he’d been told. Hoping to find a young trainer or group, preferably just starting out, and help them on their journey. In exchange, Lloyd would get to see the entire journey up close. It’s a win-win situation really.

Other: Lloyd has a mayor soft-spot for small Pokémon.

Pokémon
Nickname:
Duke
Species: Furfrou, the Poodle Pokémon
Ability: Fur Coat
Moves: Work Up, Headbutt, Bite, Growl
Backstory: Duke is the proud, hardworking herding dog that’s a bit too serious and overprotective. Duke tends to be the first one to step up to the plate when there’s heavy lifting to be done – be it dealing with a troublesome group of Mareep, or an uphill battle against a Fighting-Type. The problem is that he’s reluctant to do work that’s too easy – he wants a challenge. Duke has been part of Lloyd’s team before it even was a team. They’ve been working together herding Mareep for years – whenever Lloyd’s father had his hands full with other tasks.

Nickname: Lacey
Species: Mareep, the Wool Pokémon
Ability: Plus
Moves: Tackle, Thunder Wave, Cotton Spore, Charge
Backstory: Lacey is the shy, reserved earthbound cloud that is highly uncomfortable around any and all other entities. She’s insecure and tends to stay as close to Lloyd – and as far away from Duke – as she possibly can. Lacey is one of the Mareep from the Abner Ranch and was pretty much pulled away from the herd by Lloyd to join him on his travels. Though, Lacey was offered a choice in the form of a Pokéball placed down in front of her – like everyone on Lloyd’s team. She didn’t exactly want to go on a journey, but didn’t have the confidence to decline the offer.

Nickname: Gabby
Species: Nidoran♀, the Poison Pin Pokémon
Ability: Rivalry
Moves: Growl, Scratch, Tail Whip
Backstory:
Gabby is the spoiled, possessive princess who gets jealous easily whenever Lloyd pays more attention to anyone or anything that isn’t her. However, this is Lloyd’s own fault as Gabby is the only Pokémon that was actually raised from an egg by him. She’s still a young Pokémon and while she is starting to take steps towards being social – more often than not she’ll only do so when Lloyd is encouraging her.

Hey, everyone! The RP is up!

https://pokecharms.com/threads/welcome-to-the-world-of-pokemon-kanto.20304/

Basically, most of the characters will be arriving in Pallet Town harbor on ships. (Unless you would like to have them get there via some other method.) They can begin to mingle on the docks or when they arrive at the lab. There will be a festival taking place on the characters' first night in Pallet Town to celebrate their departure.

Everyone can control Professor Oak for their own encounters with him, just try to keep him true to character. Have fun!

@Red Gallade: That's fine, there's no maximum or minimum to how long your post should be! Mine is just a little long since I have to set up the plot, in a sense.

Also, on second thought, I will control Professor Oak for the beginning of the RP, just to give everyone a bit of direction. When it comes to Gym Battles and other important characters, though, it is up to you if you want to control them, or have another player control them.

You guys still open for new trainers? If so I've got one for you! Took a few world liberties with her background, if you need me to change anything just let me know! I gave her a Japanese name to represent her 'traditional' family, I hope that's okay.

Name: Nagisa Shimizu

Age: 16

Gender: Female

Role: Coordinator

Hometown: Cianwood City

Appearance: Nagisa has straight, long, thick lilac coloured hair that she usually styles into a braid thrown over her shoulder, or in a bun if she is wearing traditional Johtonian clothing, and bangs covering her left eye. Her eye colour is a bright yellow in sheen with a sharp shape, light skin, and a pointed face. She is on the short side at five foot five inches, as has the lean build of a dancer. As a Coordinator, she has a good eye for fashion, but is rather conservative with her personal choices in clothing, but likes ruffles and frills along with traditional Jothonian styled clothing as well. Being away from her family might give her a chance to widen her wardrobe options though. Nagisa’s favorite colour is light blue and white, which is usually the colour of what she wears.

Personality: Upon first meeting her Nadia gives off an air of mystery and grace, making her hard to approach. But once you do it becomes obvious there is more than meets the eye. While the mystery and grace is no lie, it’s mostly just a side effect of her skills and upbringing, with the most accurate summary of her personality being a quirky airhead, though she is in no way stupid. Her main quirks are her love for ‘squishy’ Pokemon, ghost stories, a weird sense of ‘cute’, a tendency to zone out, and has an odd fearlessness. She also has a love of singing and dancing. As a shrine maiden she has knowledge of many different legends and legendaries, and how to properly worship them, and believes they should not be sought out unless they willingly grace you with their presence, let alone caught. Despite having grown up in a conservative environment with most of her interactions being with either other shrine people or her family, Nagisa is eager to try out new things and meet different kinds of people, something she may only be able to do on this journey. She’s not much of a Pokemon trainer yet.

Brief Background: Nagisa Shimizu was born and raised in Cianwood City in the lesser known shrine toward Lugia that is open to the public, unlike the hard to reach one in the Whirl Island. She has three older siblings and four younger ones, along with many other distant relatives who either live with her, in the city, scattered across the Johto region, or serving at the shrines of other legendries. Nagisa was brought up as a shrine maiden to serve Lugia, though was encouraged to worship all legendaries. She was encouraged to live a traditional and conservative life serving the legendaries, and was discouraged from going against those ways, which Nagisa accepted despite being a huge Contest fan. Her horizons expanded upon journeying with her older brother to the different legendary shrines across the Johto region. This made her want to experience life outside her family’s influence, and requested to travel across Kanto to visit and pray at the legendary shrines in that region, which her worried parents hesitantly allowed. And while her wish to visit the shrines are genuine Nagisa also plans to make her debut as a Coordinator, and gain new friends.

Other: Beware. Nagisa loves and has a high tolerance for spicy food.

Pokémon

Nickname: Hama

Species: Shellos (East Sea)

Ability: Storm Drain

Moves: Mud-slap, Mud sport, Harden, water-pulse

Backstory: Nagisa begged for this Pokemon for her eleventh birthday, and despite being a tad weirded out her parents complied. They have been constant companions ever since, though her family made her promise to never bring something like a Kanto Grimer home after experiencing Hama’s stress slime.

@The Kitsune, no worries. We are actually just getting started.

I didn't want to have my character go straight to the lab to wait for some other players to post, but everyone is free to do as they please in Pallet Town. There will be a special event during the festival, so try not to have your character wander too far. Also, at some point, our characters will need to meet up to travel together.

Hey, everyone! Sorry for my lack of activity, I have quite a few finals for university these next two days.

I plan on getting back to my regular posting tomorrow!

Name: Winona 'Winnie' Colburn
Age: 20
Gender: female
Role: Pokemon Researcher to-be
Hometown: Azalea Town, Johto

Appearance: Winnie is of average build and only slightly on the shorter side, standing at 5'4. Her dark brown hair is straight, fluffy, and soft to touch, but often uncombed and held back from her face with two hairclips on both sides. It's relatively short, slightly longer than chin-length. Her wild amber eyes are bright and full of wonder, sometimes hidden behind a thin-framed pair of round glasses.
Her regular attire consists of knitted sweaters in red, yellow, orange, or green tones, dark green pants, and worn out, black boots. Winnie keeps her belongings in a brown backpack. She takes her custom Super Rod anywhere she goes.
Personality: Winnie is a patient, yet extroverted girl who loves to make lasting friendships. She's the one you'd rely on to keep the group spirit up, as she's always trying to find the bright side, but her blind optimism might make her seem a bit naive. Winnie is curious and inquisitive, although she tries to keep others' boundaries in mind when asking questions. She can tell when she's annoying someone, and closes off around them.
Brief Background:
Winnie was born and raised in Azalea Town, Johto, as an only child. To cure her loneliness, she made friends with each person her age, and was a childhood friend of Bugsy. They contrasted each other quite a bit - Bugsy was always more introverted than Winnie, but it was only more of a reason for the girl to take him under her wing. Together, they explored the Ilex forest and its residents, which awoke Winnie's love towards Bug types and exploration. While Bugsy turned to battling with them, becoming a Gym Leader, Winnie preferred to inspect them and their behavior; although she didn't refrain from battling.
The two would also help Kurt out with apricorn collecting, and in turn, he'd make Net Balls for Winnie.
Winnie's love for fishing was passed down onto her by her fisherman father, and they'd often take trips to his home town of Olivine for sport. Her patient personality went well with that hobby. She became skilled with the rod, even modifying it so to land better catches.
Winnie aspires to become a top Bug-type researcher, and after journeying through Johto and getting to know its Bug-types, she turned to Kanto.
Other: Winnie has an affinity towards Bug, Water, and Ground type Pokemon, and likes to keep all of hers in Net Balls.

Pokémon

Nickname: Beetle
Species: Heracross
Ability: Guts
Moves: Aerial Ace, Brick Break, Bulk Up, Bug Bite
Backstory: Beetle was caught outside of Azalea Town, when Winnie was 14. Her and Bugsy argued over who got to catch it, but Winnie came out victorious. Beetle had been a valuable team member, and an important friend of Winnie's ever since.
He has a calm personality, and loves to eat.

@Red Gallade: You can encounter any Pokémon in the National Pokédex as long as it's location is appropriate, with Kanto-native species obviously being a little more common. For example, you wouldn't find an Onix in the middle of the ocean, but you might find an injured Bagon on Route 1 if you had a good reason behind why it would be there.

@JustJumper: As of right now, the Gym Leaders and Elite Four are how they were in the Gen II games, after Red and Blue had completed their journeys and defeated Team Rocket. So, Blue has taken over the Viridian City Gym and Lance is the Champion for now. Also, for example, Janine is now the Gym Leader in Fuschia City instead of Koga.

Hey, everyone, I just wanted to apologize for being largely inactive this weekend, I was busy traveling. However, I'm now on winter break from college, so I should be posting a lot more to move the plot along.
