Ask to Join The Mixed World

Dingodile furrowed his brow. There was a certain irony in the words, creatures evolving from squids and octopuses dying when they stay too long in water. But he noticed the shaky handwriting and decided to ask a question that could be considered too much. "Did...did you ever see that happening?" His voice lowered as his eyes flashed towards the other Inkling and Octoling, though they didn't appear to have heard it. "It's okay if you don't want to answer it, I understand that it is a tough topic to talk about." He didn't mind death, but there was always some reluctance when someone asked him about death or burns. It felt wrong to talk about, like he disrespected his victims.

Teal held the stick shakily. ‘In a way.’ She wrote, taking a deep breath. ‘I was on a mission. I had been hanging out with a friend before, I didn’t know he followed.....I was running from the Octarians, I lost my balance, I fell underwater...he jumped in after me, he got me out, but he got caught on something.’ Tears welled up in her eyes. ‘I was to weak at the moment...I could only watch my best friend beg for help, then...he was gone....I tried to save him, I tried...I tried...I tried...But I couldn’t....it was my fault...’ Suddenly she dropped the stick, letting out a cry as she broke down, curling up as she started sobbing without control.

Dingodile didn't know exactly what to expect, but this wasn't it. But he couldn't just let her go through this alone, could he? He cleared his throat. "Teal, I doubt that it was your fault. You could not decide to not trip, that just happens. I don't know your best friend, but I think he would be proud to see you survive up to this point. If you ever fall in water, I'll save you. And don't worry about me drowning, I've been created with spending long periods underwater in mind. I've spent over 30 minutes underwater before."

He was created to be evil, and spent his whole life being evil. He stayed simply because he had nowhere to go, and he felt that was the same reason others stayed as well. The world would simply not accept monstrosities as them, so they stayed in a place where they were accepted but used. But ever since arriving in this forest, he felt different. Being evil was all that he knew, but it felt good protecting the kids and sea kids. So as of now, he would try his best to shake his old ways and be there for others who have no one else, like Dr. Cortex and Dr. N.Brio did to him. They used him for their own goals, but that was a different story.

Teal was not a fan of being touched, Dingodile knew that. But he still wanted to comfort her. So he decided to make slow steps forward and pat her on her back, gently enough to not send her flying but strong enough for her to feel that he was there.

Teal looked up at Dingodile, tears still streaming down her face. She stood up shakily, hugging Dingodile again. But this time, she didn’t let go.
———————
Meanwhile, Cuphead finally noticed it was getting darker. “WE’RE UNDER ATTACK!!!!” He screamed, running around in circles, before tripping, the liquid in his head splashing onto Mugman, who sighed. “No, its only night time. Refill yourself.” He said, tossing a water bottle to Cuphead, who took the cap off and poured it into his head. “Thanks! I’ll go get materials for a fire ok bye!” Cuphead shouted, taking off running, while Mugman only shook his head, Susie grinning a bit.

Dingodile let Teal cry her heart out, knowing that she would need to cry it all out eventually. He hugged the Inkling back and made a silent vow to protect her whenever she was in danger. "It's alright, throw it all out. I'm here for you and I won't leave you. I'm here for you, I'll always be." Somewhere, in the back of his mind, he wondered if this was what it was like to be a parent. Not that he could ever get kids of his own, he was one of a kind, but he could still dream.

Teal slowly calmed down, still sniffling and shaking a bit. She looked up at Dingodile, tears still in her eyes. “T-Thank....y-you....” She sounded out, rubbing the tears out of her eyes. Gold opened one eye, hearing Teal and looked over, noticing the two and he smiled. “I never thought anyone would break the barrier she set up to who she really is...she’s still only 14....just like the rest of us...this guy...Dingodile...he really must be something.” He thought, shutting his eyes, deciding to go back to sleeping so he wouldn’t disturb them.

"No problem, I told you I would always be there for you. You should drink something, crying dehydrates you. I found a stream whilst hiding in the bushes, would you like some?" Dingodile asked softly, still holding Teal as if she would fall apart if he let go. I swear, these kids will break down my walls faster than Tiny breaking down doors when smelling food. The amalgamation of creatures thought, though he didn't despise the thought. If he was stuck here permanently, he'd prefer to be stuck here with these kids.

Teal stayed quiet, shrugging. She didn’t want to go entirely, the fact of being near water scared her still. But, she didn’t want to be alone. “If I go, I’ll probably get hurt in one way or another. But, I don’t want him to leave....I got an idea. I’ll go.” She thought, and nodded, clinging to Dingodile tighter.

"We can go together, and if the water hurts you I'll get you to safety." Dingodile allowed more gas to go towards the nozzle of the flamethrower, causing the flame in front to grow in size and create a makeshift torch. "Follow me, I'll keep you safe." He waited for Teal to stick with him before entering the darkness around the campfire, knowing that a stream was within walking distance and that it was probably safe to drink. Running water was always better than stagnant water.

Teal nodded, following after Dingodile. She looked around, trying to see through the darkness. Suddenly, her ear flickered towards a small noise, and she looked around. She stopped a moment, walking towards the noise. Meanwhile, Cuphead happened to be the source of the noise, walking all around the trees, while Teal tried to locate him. She climbed up a tree, figuring if there was something, she could see from there, so she climbed up into the leaves so she couldn’t be seen, just in case something around was hostile.

Dingodile was about to ask a question about the reason behind Teal leaving, when his dingo ears heard a noise. He limited the gas flow and let his natural night vision take over. He caught a glimpse of Teal climbing a tree, impressed by how easy the Inkling did it, before sneaking forward towards the source of the sound. He was starting to get a bit hungry, so this could be a potential meal for them.

Teal sighed, unable to see anything. “Crud...if only Agent 4 were here, he has much bettter eyesight...but I have the best hearing, so that good.” She thought, climbing all the way to the top. “Hmm....nothing....” She wondered to herself, preparing to slide down, when something flew out of nowhere, a light blue dot. It flew right through the branch she was on, and it snapped off. Teal gave a small cry as she began falling, hitting a few branches the way down, before finally landing. There was a flash of white, then everything went black.

Cuphead grinned, knowing he shot the branch, walking towards what fell. He saw Teal, lying there unconscious, and he knew he messed up. “Fiddlesticks, what do I do? Um...I’ll just....take her with me before anyone comes back.....” He whispered, grabbing Teal by the arm and dragging her behind him, trying to keep himself quiet. “Cartoon irony, as usual, follows me everywhere.”

Dingodile growled, he saw everything that happened. And he would be damned if he let her be taken away after getting her to open up to him. He crept forward and closed in on Cuphead, and he wanted to scare him good. A walking cup man? Now I've seen it all. He grimaced as he snapped a branch and made his flamethrower ready to fire. The little flame in the dark should look off, and if his teeth were spotted in the flickering light, anyone who was in front of him would be terrified of him. I am getting Teal back, no matter what.

Cuphead jumped, hearing a branch snap. He threw down a few smoke bombs, and took off running. “Sorry sorry sorry sorry sorry!” He muttered as he pulling Teal along behind him, stopping, seeing a stream ahead. He ran up to it, setting Teal against a rock. He noticed small bruises on her, and frowned a little. “Kiddo? Wake up, wake up WAKE UP!” He pleaded, grabbing a nearby stick a hitting the side of her head gently with it. He felt something wet, realizing he just left a cut on her, and it was bleeding. “FRIIIICK.” He growled. “P-Plan B....” He mumbled, standing up and leaning down, splashing the water he had in his head on her. “C’MON WHY WONT THIS WORK!” He yelled, refilling himself in the stream before repeating this a few times. (Interesting fact:Cuphead almost always makes things worse.) He stopped, picking Teal up and holding her. She was soaking wet, the cut was still bleeding, and he was still probably being hunted. “U-Um....lets try a different thing?” The cartoon character wondered, kneeling down next to the stream, holding Teal above it. “J-Just gently lower her in....that might get her better, and I won’t die!”

Sadly, his plan didn't work as he expected and he lost his target. He walked through the smoke and tried to sniff Teal out. It took a while, especially with the smoke contaminating the air, but eventually he caught her scent, along with.....oh no. Water. Dingodile ran towards the source of the scent and caught Cuphead about to put Teal in the water. "Stop! Back off from that stream and keep the girl out of the water. I don't know if your head is ceramic or not, but I will find out soon enough when it cracks if you don't listen. Pull anything funny, and I'll roast yas. Hurt her more, on purpose or not, and I'll roast yas. Am I clear?" He roared as his flamethrower was one fingerpush away from roasting the cup creature.

Cuphead turned around, noticing Dingodile. “Um...hehe...this isn’t what you think....” He chuckled, before kinda just dropping Teal. “I was trying to wake her up....but what I’ve been trying won’t work. Most people wake right up.” He mumbled, refilling himself. “Geez....you people aren’t as nice as the others....those two kids....Susie don’t count as nice....and the other yellow kid. What was his name? Angel? Ford? Oh, wait, Agent 4! Got it!” He exclaimed, looking around. “Well, I suppose that’s that. Gotta find the rest of the group.” He looked down at Teal, kneeling down and taking a deep breath. “WAKE THE FLIP UUUUUUPPPPP!!!!!” He screamed, and her ears folding against the sides of her head, having sensitive hearing. He stood up, kicking her in the side as a last attempt, before shrugging. “Welp, that’s that.” He walked over the a different part of the stream, sitting down and watching the moon reflect off the surface. “Hopefully he doesn’t realize she soaking wet and bleeding until he calms down. I didn’t try to hurt her.”

Dingodile was fuming, who did this thing think he was? But before he decided to deal with him, he went towards Teal and took her to a safe space away from the water. After putting her down, he noticed she was bleeding. "CUPFACE!" Dingodile stormed towards Cuphead and reached for his shoulders to pin him against a tree. "WHAT DID YOU DO TO HER?! If I found out that you hurt her, tried to dump her in water and then decided to maim her even though I warned you, I will kill you!" Dingodile was furious, and his primal instincts were surfacing, making him want nothing more than to tear Cuphead apart limb by limb.

Cuphead used another smoke bomb to dodge away. He charged up a shot from his finger gun, shooting 3 charged shots into the air.
Mugman, from where he was, noticed the shots and sighed. “Cuphead, what now?!” He shouted, whistling as his trusty plane flew down. He hopped in, strapping his goggles on and taking off.
Knowing his brother was on his way, Cuphead climbed up a tree, staying on a branch so he’d be in sight. “Its not my fault! That kids a complete idiot!” He shouted, preparing to dodge again if he had to.

"You don't say? He almost killed a member of my group and after I warned him to not hurt them, he yelled at them and kicked them!" Dingodile shouted as he aimed his flamethrower at Cuphead. "And I will gladly take revenge for her, as she got knocked out by this ceramic idiot. I don't care if he's stranded here, I won't tolerate any attack on my group!"

Mugman flew down, praying he wasn’t too late. He landed behind Dingodile. “Erm, he probably didn’t mean to.” He said quietly, and Cuphead grinned. “Gee, thanks Mugs-“ “DON’T START CUPHEAD! YOU STILL CAUSED THIS!” Mugman shouted, shutting his brother up. “Look, I’m sorry about Cuphead. We’re cartoons, and he’s the kind that causes trouble all the time. I’m Mugman, his younger brother. Sorry about your friend.” Mugman said, introducing himself. “But, if you try and hurt him, we’ll have to attack you.” He mumbled. “Yeah! We beat the devil, we’ll beat you too!” Cuphead yelled, jumping down behind Mugman, just in case.

"Look who's all high and mighty now that your...brother I suppose is here." Dingodile scowled at Cuphead before locking eyes with Mugman. "Atleast you have manners. If I was any less of a creature than I am now, I'd kill that cup right here and now for hurting her. The name's Dingodile, and I thought my name wasn't very creative." He turned away from the two brothers and picked up Teal bridal style. "I won't bother you anymore, can't risk another group member getting injured. I advise that you keep your brother in check, lest you anger someone less forgiving." With those words, he went back into the darkness. Normally he would ask them about how they got here, but Teal was more important right now. He just hoped Gold and Vian knew how to patch her up.

Cuphead crossed his arms, while Mugman took a few steps. “I’m gonna follow him, c’mon.” He told his brother, and Cuphead nodded. Mugman was the first to reach Dingodile, forcing a shaky grin. “Hey, we’re gonna stick with you. You said you have a group? Well, our group isn’t doing much, and its probably best we stay around others, so we can find a way back to our worlds.” He explained, and Cuphead ran next to him, out of breath. “You sure about this Mugs?” He asked, and Mugman nodded. “Um...here! A peace offering or whatever.” Cuphead mumbled, pulling out a cloth and pressing it against the cut on Teals head, causing her to wince, so he took his hand off. He moved to the side next to Mugman, who grinned and gave him a pat on the shoulder.

"If you or your brother pull a stunt like this again, I won't be as nice. And yes, I do. They are sleeping, so instead of waking them up you two can help healing your victim." Dingodile didn't look at Mugman or Cuphead, clearly still annoyed by what Cuphead tried to do. "I have no clue how we got here or how we can get out of here, but I am not sure if you two fools will help much in any other way than being comic relief. Scratch that, I doubt that the red one will be any kind of relief. If anything, he'll make me more stressed."

"You said you had your own group right? Why not bring them along? Or did they ditch you? If they did, I can't really blame them." He growled as he placed Teal down on a flat rock near the campfire. "Come on, gimme a hand." Dingodile was not a doctor, but he knew that the bleeding had to be stopped. "Oh, and about that peace treaty. The red one might have messed up his chances, but the blue one has manners at least. If you two don't cause any trouble, I won't attack you. It is a simple request, do you think you can do that?" He finally looked at the brothers, or rather glared at Cuphead as his fangs bared.

Mugman nodded, while Cuphead muttered “no promises” under his breath. He walked over to Teal, shaking her a bit. “Kid, hurry up and wake up. Before this animal dude tries to kill us.” He said quietly, with no reaction. “C’mon kid....wakey-wakey...” He put a hand on one of her tentacles, tugging on it slightly, causing Teal to flinch and whine. “Oh,there we go!” He exclaimed, and Mugman turned to him. “OK, I’ll take over for you. Go hang out with Agent 4 if you have two cause trouble.” Cuphead nodded eagerly, running off. “Sorry about Cuphead, he isn’t really the kind to help. He’s nice once you get to know him.” Mugman said quietly, looking around. He put a gentle hand on her neck, before pulling it away. “Is she always freezing?” He wondered, before pulling a roll of bandages out. “These may work...”

"She did say that she was cold, but she is part squid. That might be a factor to keep in check. Let's put her closer to the fire." Dingodile carefully picked Teal up and put her down near the fire, allowing Mugman to use some bandages. "Not sure where you got those, but I'm happy that you did. I don't know about Cuphead, he seems to be a nuisance. How did that guy beat the devil in his own world?" He wondered as he adjusted the pressure on his gas tank, causing it to warm up considerably. "Don't worry, I am warming myself up. You seem to be okay."

Mugman sighed. “Its...a long story. Cuphead kinda tried to win a whole casino from the devil, and gambled our souls, losing in the process. We had to fight a whole bunch of people, until we won, and freed everyone from their own debts.” Mugman explained. “He saved everyone, he just gets blinded by things sometimes.” Her finished wrapping bandages around the side of Teals face. “Her eye’s gonna be covered awhile. Until the bleeding stops.” He mumbled. He looked over at Cuphead, who was looking around. The red-clothed cup noticed a bush, seeing different color berries, and began picking them. “He’s....really helpful, just....don’t be harsh on him. I don’t think he’d try and hurt anyone unless he gets hurt first.”

"He shot Teal out of a tree without any sign of agression, yelled at her and kicked her. I know that he doesn't know that water is deadly for Inklings, but that doesn't mean that he didn't almost dump her in a stream when she was unconscious and unable to move. She already has traumas from seeing her best friend die in water because he saved her. We can't use this right now." Dingodile crossed his arms and furrowed his brow, his eyes locked on Teal's body.

"What do you think, when is she up and running again?" He asked Mugman, his voice lowered in a respectful manner.

“I don’t think so.” He mumbled, looking at Teal. “I saw her twitch and stir a bit, and she’s whimpered a little, but I don’t think she’s fully aware of anything yet.” He looked back at Dingodile. “And if she fell from a tree, she may have some problems thinking and functioning.”

"Hmm, I'll keep an eye on her. We'll just have to slow down our advance." Dingodile said as he sat down, soaking up the heat from his flamethrower tank and the campfire. "So, how did you get here? Anything else besides waking up in a forest or the basic scenario?"

“Yep. We found two kids, they seemed nice, some other people I can’t really remember, and some giant purple dinosaur monster thing. Cuphead ran out to get fire materials, and then he shot some energy blasts up, so I had to fly three to stop him from getting killed, as usual.” He sighed, looking over at Cuphead, who was putting the berries a pile. “He gets everyone into trouble, and tries to make up for it. As always. Everyday. And I help him, he’s my older brother after all.”

Gunvolt woke up on the ground, in the middle of a dark forest. “Where am I?” He asked himself. He was confused, as he clearly remembered being on a mission just before. Could it be someone’s Septima that had lead him there? He checked himself for any possible injuries and check if he had his gun, and was relieved to find that everything was ok. “You there, Joule?” He asked the girl living inside him. No answer. That was weird, as she always answered back. Maybe some sort of interference? He shook his head and hoped that she’d talk soon.

He got up to look around and see if he could find someone. He walked around for a good 10 minutes before hearing faint voices nearby, as well as a fire source. He made his way towards the two voices, hoping someone knew where he was.

Dingodile said nothing, instead mulling over Mugman's words. Helping a good for nothing brother? It seemed foreign to him, why would anyone stick to someone that incapable? But he supposed it checked out, in the books he used to read the characters always stuck together if they were family. He guessed that this was the same thing, but real. Even though the past day felt more like a dream than reality.

He opened his mouth and kept it open between sentences, though it didn't seem like he tried to be intimidating. "...You really care about him don't you?"

Gunvolt looked through a bush at the two that were talking, and couldn’t believe his eyes. Some sort of mix between a dingo and a crocodile, an anthropomorphic talking mug, and another anthropomorphic cup gathering berries. There were other figures, but he couldn’t make them out from where he was. What was going on? He really couldn’t tell.

“What the...?” He muttered, then realized that they could have heard him. Hopefully they wouldn’t be foes, as he didn’t want to fight if he didn’t have to.

Sans took out a bottle of ketchup out of his pocket to drink "welp, since we're gonna be here a while, might aswell enjoy and ketch-up on everything that's been going on" he said before sitting down, almost falling asleep

Mugman shrugged. “Well, who wouldn’t care about there family. Um...how do I put it.....I know! I care about him like you care about that kid!”He exclaimed with a grin. Teal stirred a bit, whimpering. “I think she’s waking up soon...thank god....” Meanwhile, Cuphead finished collecting his berries and walked over. Gold sat up as he walked by, Cuphead waving. The inkling stood up, standing next to the cup as he began to mumble something in his language, Cuphead nodding along.
———————
Susie growled, looking at where Cuphead and Mugman left. “Kris, I’ll be back. I’m gonna collect those dweebs.” She muttered, pulling her axe out. “You coming?”

Dingodile let out a laugh. "Hah, I guess you have a point there. Though I doubt that would be classified as brotherly love, since there's no blood connection between me and her. I just took charge of the group and decided to keep them safe. They're children, they shouldn't have to be left to their own devices. I know I should never be a parent, but I can atleast be a supporting figure out here for them." He opened his mouth again as his ears twitched. He leaned forward towards Mugman's supposed ear. "Someone's behind us, be ready to fight if necessary." He warned the new addition to the team as he opened his mouth wide again.

Just like the Adept suspected, the dingo-like creature heard him. He saw it lean toward the mug and whisper something, thought the only words he managed to make out were “behind” and “fight”. However, he still wondered if they would attack without a
motive.

“I know I can just make a run for it right now, but I really need any possible intel they may have of this place.” His mind raced as he tried to come up with a plan. After a bit of thinking and considering his options, he decided to take the risk and reveal himself. He walked a bit to the side and put his hands up as he came out of the bushes a few feet from the two possible enemies.
“I guess you spotted me. I don’t want to fight if it’s not necessary, I just want to know where we are and how to get outta here.” He calmly said, hoping to avoid conflict.

Mugman stared at Gunvolt, getting his finger gun ready, a light blue flame appearing on the tip of his finger. Cuphead copied his brother, and Gold pulled out his weapon, a Tri-Slosher. “Scrooje-Née! Squrl-luiad!” [Agent 8! Wake, up, get your brush ready!] He shouted, the octoling waking up in a instant and pulling out his Octobrush. Agent 4 looked at where he was sleeping before, seeing the Hero Shot Teal liked using. “I made the right choice grabbing it, but she isnt well right now. So for now, lets get ready to fight when we have to.” He thought, gripping the handle of his weapon. Agent 4 said something in his language, Cuphead turning to listen. “Um....he speaks another language, but I can translate at the moment. Ahem....’State your purpose. Why are you here, and how do we know you aren’t a threat?’ “ Cuphead said, Agent 4 nodding.

Gunvolt got surrounded quickly, which was something he should probably have seen coming. The two kids with tentacle-like hair seemed curious to him, as not only did they speak a different language that he couldn’t understand, but they had buckets and huge paintbrushes for weapons. Still, he knew this was not the moment for him to get distracted, as the talking cup told him to state his purpose, and the similar looking mug didn’t look like he’d hesitate to finger-gun him.

“I’m Gunvolt. I’m here to find out how I ended up here and how to get out. I’m not looking to fight, alright? So how about you all just put down your weapons, whatever they are?” He calmly stated.

The small dots of lights vanished from the brothers hands. Agent 8 and Agent 4 both hooked their weapons to their backs. “Now, we don’t know how to leave either.” Mugman told Gunvolt. “And we can’t try since this stupid kid got hurt.” Cuphead mumbled, referring to Teal. Agent 4 heard, glaring at him. “Uh-oh.” Cuphead squeaked, and took off. Gold, or Agent 4, began to Chase him around the little clearing. “Guys! Stop!’ Mugman shouted, running along with them and trying to get them to stop. Agent 8, or Octavian, or even Vian for short, just stood there, looking at Gunvolt with curiosity, tilting his head to the side in confusion.
