Private/Closed The Merciless Mirai Region

https://pokecharms.com/threads/the-merciless-mirai-region-disscussion.18524/page-4

Matt and Sven burst into the clearing- or at least, that would have been the case, had Matt not tripped over a root and brought Sven toppling down upon him. The two lay tangled on the ground, looking up at the figure of Myrna, and the floating entities that hovered around her. A couple of the ghostly pokemon turned sharply and looked at the newcomers with alarm, but nearly as quickly as their hostility had come, it was gone again. Myrna was breathing, and appeared to be unhurt and still rational.

"(Eaaaaasy,)" whispered Matt. "(No sudden movements. Sven, do you know what those are?)"

"Their names? I can't recall that, but . . . I know that they're supposed to be tree stump spirits."

"Tree stump-?" Matt tilted his head up as far as it would go, to give Sven a look over his shoulder. "Are you making this up?"

"No. I'm serious as a heart attack. They're supposed to be little kids that died in this forest, and now control trees."

"I don't like the sound of that. I once played a video game in which the monsters were the spirits of children controlling animatronic suits. Dead kids can be amoral little bastards."

"Well, for the moment, they seem content to be playing with Myrna."

"Fine. Can you get off me, now? Between you and the backpack, I'm getting crushed here, Sven."

"Oh. Sorry."

The two trainers untangled themselves and rose slowly, very slowly, to their full standing height. Sven checked his watch.

"It's getting late. If we don't get to the other side soon, the sun will set while we're still in here. It could be that the nice ghosts are out now, but I'd hate to see what comes out in full dark."

For once, Matt found himself appreciating Sven's trainer sense. It usually lay dormant, but it emerged every now and then. "Myrna?" he called gently. "Can you hear me? Is there any way you can extract yourself gracefully from the little ghoulies now?"

In the distance, Jezebel heard yelling. Concerned for other travelers (and hoping to find other Pokemon she might want to catch) she dashed in the direction of the cries. "Prince, Felix, let's go!" she told them as she ran. Prince floated along as quickly as he could; floating through air was harder than life in the sea where he could actually swim.

Getting close to where she had heard the cry coming from, Jezebel stopped as a Drowzee ran by through the undergrowth, clutching its trunk like nose. "What in the world?" Jezebel asked she stopped to stare at the odd sight.

However, Prince ventured forth to see a boy talking to an odd looking... He supposed it must've been a pokemon; could it have been anything else? It was made up of several pink and tan triangles and, even though he could tell it wasn't a ghost, it managed to float in midair. The ghost jelly felt bad for them; they were clearly very spooked and he wanted to comfort them. Jezebel was not far away at all. If something happened he could be there in a split second to help her. Keeping this in mind, he floated over to the young man and called out a friendly greeting, swooping in close to the pair as he did so.

"The Forest of Lost Souls, this is the big first step in a new trainers journey, takes out the weak and inexperienced quickly." Levi thought to himself, slowly surveying the dense old trees making it look dark and empty even in the daytime. A dense fog seemed to shroud the area for no apparent reason, the faint sounds of what could almost be described as whispers, coming from every direction in the darkness only made the setting all the more nerve racking. "One hell of a first test, better be ready. Titus! Come out!" He yelled, tossing out his pokeball, a small Shellder appearing in front of him. "Keep your eye peeled Titus." He added. The small pokemon nodded, sitting perched on Levi's shoulder.

After walking for a short while, Levi jolted at the sound of someone screaming in the distance. "Porygon! Wake up!" He heard echoing from up ahead. "Lets go see whats going on Titus." Levi said in a cold, serious voice and he picked up speed, running towards the voice worriedly.
"Hey! You ok?" He questioned, entering a small clearing where he saw a boy with a Porygon pocketing what he thought to be a kitchen knife. He could tell the boy was close to him in age, maybe a few years younger, seemed pretty stressed out to. "I uh, I heard screaming and....yeah." He said awkwardly, expecting a more dire situation than he'd found. "Wow, a Porygon, its been way to long since ive seen one of those, perhaps he's also from Kanto. Hmp, that wont matter if he tries to start anything, this region is to corrupt to judge someone based off looks alone." He concluded, keeping his guard up while waiting for a response.

The boat approached the dock as the setting sun cast purple and golden hues across the sky, while also descending the shadows over the entirety of Mirai. A young man and woman, siblings or romantic partners with how close they were, leaned against the railing of the boat before it began to dock. The people here were already flooding to the gangplank before the boat even docked. It slowly slid over the waves and the sailors on the sides of the boat threw thick ropes for the others on the wooden dock to catch and twist around a metal anchor situated on the dock. The boat let out its own anchor, and everyone got into position, including the two mysterious characters.

These two both had hoods covering their faces, for if anybody knew who they looked like, they would be in for some serious trouble, especially when they see how colorful they were. All that color must mean they have money, right? Well, they would be right, but even before the clutches of human puberty hit, they looked like average kids. Nevertheless, they went along the crowd, crossing the gangplank cautiously so they don't fall in the harsh waves below that were already lapping at the boat's sides and the dock.

As soon as they crossed the plank and made it off the dock, they found the registration center - tall and full of gloom, just like the rest of this dreary city. As they walked inside, a taller figure pointed at the flyers for the region, a more in-depth look at the region than what their older flyer told. The shorter figure walked on over, the cloak she was wearing flowed elegantly in the wind, and her footsteps soft against the harsh floor of the registration center. As she got close, she could feel eyes stare harshly at her. Must be one of the guards. She quickly swiped the flyer off before retreating to the cloaked taller figure. They both mused over the singular flyer together, and they were in shock. So much money was needed, and they were only able to bring the 3000 Pokeyen. The older figure growled deeply, not liking this at all, but an elbow jab to the side stopped him. He could almost feel the glare from his younger sister (by 20 minutes) through the cloaks. He sighed and decided to behave.

As soon as they made it to the front of the line, they noticed that several young kids got severely picked on, while the older adults got more respect. They wondered what kind of attention they would get, as they walked up to the man that reminded both of them of a drill sergeant. Was this city ran by the military? The man took the older man's ID, but demanded he removed his hood. The older man looked at his younger sister and obliged, yet reluctantly. His flaming hair caught the light, and when his sister followed suit, both of them were like aliens coming in on some foreign planet. They looked strange, and the drill sergeant-like guard huffed in interest. He looked at Pyros' ID card again, this time finding something. The two strangers could both tell that he wasn't exactly caring, just as long as they weren't too young.

The man gruffly stated aloud: "Pyroshu Rastrixen Darastrix. Born in... Cocona Village. Registered in Saffron City, and you're thirty. You might have a chance, but a very marginal one. If I were you, I'd leave. Your looks would get you into some serious trouble."

He handed Pyros his ID card back, clearly stumped as to where Cocona Village was. He probably had never heard of it. He then took the sister's card, then stating her credentials for the person next to him to write everything down: "Shadara... Arcaf-... Arcafiwhed... Darastrix... Who thought out your names? Anyway, Born in Cocona Village. Again. Registered in Saffron City. Thirty years old. You two seem to be twins. Hmph," he gruffly muttered something that was intelligible, and gave Shade her ID back. She almost chuckled at the fact that he couldn't say her middle name, and their r's weren't rolled, but were hard r's. She didn't mind though, she had to get used to it.

The intelligible muttering was actually him demanding money for entrance, but neither heard. Pyros politely said: "What?" but that apparently didn't go well with the guy. The man glared at the giant in front of him, trying to square him up, but saw he was just as wide as he was. He gave up, but kept a very close eye on them. Pyros just glared nonchalantly at the guy, thinking: How cute. He's trying to look tough.

The man then spat back at Pyros: "500 PokeYen. Both of you. Now." He held out his hand, waiting for the oh-so-deserved cash to be placed upon it. Pyros and Shade both sighed softly and fished for their money. They both took out 500 PokeYen, as instructed, and placed it on his palm. When the man looked over and saw that they were definitely real money, he let them both pass by. Pyros whispered to Shade softly, but his anger was making his voice rise slightly.

"What is that guy's beef? I mean, seriously. If I had angered him anymore, he would've charged us more, probably. What even is this economy?"

"One the military likes, apparently," whispered Shade. She didn't like it, either, but they had to play along.

When they left the building, they saw there were groups of people heading off into the forest already. They seemed young, so they were probably starting the Mirai Pokemon League challenge. If so, then these fellas have competition. Shade looked over the map of Mirai, seeing that they were in Dolvious City, and the walk between the Pokemon Center and the Pokemon Mart were really far. Nevertheless, Shade and Pyros began to walk in the direction of the Pokemon Mart, but something stopped them. A group of hardened criminals were fighting a lady, trying to take her purse. Not liking this at all, Pyros rushed in, forgetting the consequences of what could happen if the cop finds them fighting. Shade hovered after him, not wanting to be left behind and didn't want him to bloody up the guy too terribly.

"Hey! Leave this lady alone!" he shouted.

The man stopped terrorizing the lady and smirked, slouching and glaring at the guy. "Or what?"

"Or this!" Pyros shouted, and slammed his fist straight into the guy's gut before he had time to react. This guy was quick, but he couldn't recover fast, since the movement caused his lungs to deplete of air and paralyze his diaphragm, making it almost impossible to breathe. When the guy doubled over from pain, Pyros slammed his fists upward, hitting the on the chin and sending him backwards, a harsh thud sounded as the guy went unconscious.

Shade punched Pyros hard on the arm and harshly whispered at him: "Why were you so loud? Now we can't buy anything because you started and ended a ruckus. I would have to go in there alone and deal with others, while you hide in the alleyways like some junk Rattata."

Pyros argued with her, his voice going an octave higher, but the stomping of feet could be heard and had interrupted them. Shade growled in frustration and pulled Pyros along the alleyways. She turned a corner and hid behind it, peeking out a bit to see a cop kneel over the body, then look around with his flashlight. When he couldn't find anything, he started going around to find some witnesses. Pyros pushed Shade toward the PokeMart, mouthing out "go" before he rushed back into the alleyway. Shade sighed and rushed inside the 'Mart, pulling up her hood before entering. With how shady she looked, the cop kept a close eye on her, as well from the previous scramble that happened before she appeared. She went towards the back of the store, finding any potions or Poke Balls. She found them, but the prices were outrageous. Now that her brother wasn't here, she could do what she wanted, as she grinned evilly and mischievously.

She didn't want anybody to see her Pokemon, but she decided this was going to be a lovely idea worth getting into trouble for. She let out her Gastly. From what she could remember from school was that the gas emitting from a Gastly could choke a person to death, or to unconsciousness. Plus, she was 98% gas, so her Gastly can disappear while still choking others, also her being a Ghost-Type helped. A red flash of light appeared at the back of the store, letting out Ghast, her Gengar's daughter, also known as Gar. The cop noticed and yelled out, but got no answer.

Instead, Shade whispered to Ghast and told her that she could steal the life force of the clerk and the cop. Gleefully agreeing to this idea, she did as she was told. Before the cop could get to the back of the store, a strange purple gas swept throughout the store. In an instant, the man began to choke on the gas, and he clutched at his throat, making this strange gurgling sounds. Shade, wincing at the sound, but also liking it way too much as it appealed to her darker side, she walked over and knelt down next to the cop. What the cop saw made him shoot glares of anger and fear toward the girl, as she waved goodbye with a smile that could rival a certain creepy doll from some creepy movie.

Ghast's gas had made its way toward the front now, knocking out the clerk before he even realized what was happening. Luckily the alarm hadn't sounded, but if she tried to tamper with the cash register, it would. Luckily for the clerk, he pressed the button underneath his desk to alert the authorities of a heist. Shade took 10 Poke Balls and 6 Potions, stuffing them all in her satchel before heading to the cash register. She knew how to work one from her time at working in retail, and this was no different, besides the placement being different. She scanned a random object off the shelf, added in an amount for cash, and hit cash. Walla! The register was opened! She then grabbed at least 1000 PokeYen, but before she could leave, she heard sirens outside. They were here. She told Ghast to follow her, and the gas disappeared and reformed to become Gastly, as Shade ran through a "Staff Only" door. It was just a storage room. Plus, pulling open the garage door would make a lot of sound. The garage door operated on a pulley system with chains, so that would undoubtedly make sound. That's when she saw a vent, just big enough to fit her. It was on a tall tower of shelves holding a lot of products. She could grab more, but didn't want to risk getting caught. The police would be coming in any second now. She heard the front door open with a soft "ding" before the adrenaline began pumping through her veins. Oh Arceus, this felt good. She found a door, but this would sound the fire alarm.

She decided to go to the vent, climbing the shelves with as much spunk as an Aipom, but as much grace as a Persian. As soon as she made it, she could hear the footsteps sound closer as they were investigating the cop-.... Oh crap, he was the last one to see her face. At least it wasn't illuminated and usually the moments right before someone faints could get quite foggy. She pulled the hatch off, almost falling off the shelf in the process. With a sigh of relief and now the fear of falling 25 feet was coming back to her she quickly crawled into the vent, which went upward. She put the vent back, snapping it back into place just in time before the police came through the garage. They searched, but couldn't find her, as she was making her way up the vents.

Sadly, she wasn't going as quiet as she would like, and their Arcanines and Scizors were already barking and punching holes in the walls in her general direction. She used all the strength she could muster to climb up the shaft as fast as she could. These cops would be on high alert, and there would be no point for anyone to stay now. Hopefully, she wouldn't be wanted in other cities, which would undoubtedly happen.

After about 5 minutes of climbing to the top, she pushed open the vent hooked on to an exhaust pipe and pulled the cloak over her head again. She told Ghast to form a fog around her body, while also giving her room to breathe. Ghast did what she could do, making her look like some purple blob. Shade peered through the thick fog, and saw that there was a street light nearby ahead of a fence that fenced out the back area of the store. She walked to one edge of the store's roof, catching attention from others below her, but they couldn't make it out who she was from Ghast's help. She then ran for it, going as fast as she could. Luckily, the training pulled off from when she was younger, and she ran so fast, the momentum from her jumping carried her to the street light, her outstretched hand catching and drawing herself towards the pole, and she slid down like a firefighter. The cops exclaimed toward her general direction, and she could hear their ferocious Pokemon getting closer.

She ran into a series of more alleyways, but she knew it was futile. She knew the powerful snout of an Arcanines were like no other and the flight of their Flying-Type Pokemon were hard to hide away from. She decided to slow them down, telling Ghast to use Haze at her section of the alleyway. With that, Ghast created a dark mist that coated a portion of the alleyway, and Shade turned another direction, giving them a choice of two ways she could go. She could hear their barking and shouting get further away before she ran into someone. They both tumbled over, and her goods spilled out of her bag.

That's when she saw it was her brother, Pyros. She smiled happily, but his face wasn't amused. In fact, he was infuriated. He started with: "You stole, didn't you?"

"Maybe, but how else were we getting the mo-"

"Keep it. I don't need it," he said harshly.

"You need a Poke Ball, though."

"Good point, but I don't need anything else," with that, he took the Poke Ball and swiftly left toward the Lost Souls Forest. Shade was left to scramble and gather everything before the Arcanines and Scizors caught up to her. She managed to get everything in the bag before the Pokemon turned to face her. 60 feet apart and she was only 10 feet away from the forest. She knew how fast they could go, so she told Ghast to use Hypnosis and hoped in her mind that it would hit. There were 3 of them, so she hoped that telekinetic delta waves could pass that far and tell those Arcanines to sleep.

A faint distortion came from Ghast's eyes as the Arcanines looked confused, but growled deeply. They were going to charge forward when the Hypnosis hit all but one. That one rushed forward while their comrades fell asleep or into a trance, and Ghast was quick to react. She used Shadow Ball, an ethereal ball of spiritual energy was formed, and it was bigger for some reason. Probably from the presence of other ghosts in the area. The large sphere of spiritual power was ejected and slammed into the face of the oncoming Arcanine quickly causing him to falter and push him towards a wall. Shade took it as a way to escape and fled into the forest while they were all trying to recover, Ghast following close behind. She also heard the buzzing and the flapping of the wings of the Pokemon from above, but dove into the shrubbery of the forest before they could swoop in on her. She could feel them hovering around the boundary between the forest and the city before they got called back. The cops would send a bounty on her head, or something equivalent to that, and they would hope that the forest finishes her off soon.

As she made it to the forest, and finally her brother, she could feel a wave of anger from him. He wasn't going to blow up now, was he?

Pyros whirled around and grabbed Shade by the shoulders, almost shouting: "What were you thinking? You could've gotten captured, and I would've had to find a way to bust you out. I only have assault and police evasion on my head, while you have theft, burglary, attacking an officer, and police evasion. 2-4. You will be hunted more than me, and they probably wouldn't even bat an eye to me. If they were smart, they would've put a bounty on your head, and I'm pretty sure this place comes with a whole lot of mercenaries looking for work."

Shade sighed in defeat and looked down, wanting to argue, but knew he was right. She shouldn't have. But the prices were outrageous! Twice the amount, but Pyros knew from the old flyer, and he didn't care. He wanted to go through this without needing to resort to dirty means and as soon as they entered the first city, they already got the entire police force on their ass. At least they'll leave them both alone, now that they are in the most dangerous forest they've ever been in.

They both sighed and Shade apologized, but Pyros found some use to the items. He took the three potions and five Poke Balls, leaving her with the halves of the items. He even took the 500 PokeYen from her, leaving them both with the amount of money and more stuff than they started out with. He did this all while his face was emotionless and cold, and he didn't want to speak a word. He then left her, dodging into the bushes, while Shade was left to return Ghast and run after him.

Felix gave a faint smile as Jezebel’s partner, Prince placed a tentacle on his new Shuppet’s Pokeball. Apparently, he was curious in the new Pokemon, and considering that Felix needed to get acquainted with his new Pokemon, sending out the Shuppet would probably be a good idea.

However his thoughts were quickly shattered as both he and Jezebel heard yelling. Jezebel was quick to run off and give a quick command for him and Prince to hurry after her, as she ran ahead. "Let's go Volt," Felix commanded as he followed Jezebel.

As they ran, they passed a Drowzee who had seemed to have a bruise forming on his trunk. However, they seemed a bit creepy for Felix's sake, so he had no reason to try and catch it. While Jezebel stopped, Felix noticed this, and stopped. "There must have been a struggle with him. So ahead might be a Pokemon or trainer." He stated, almost feeling like he was stating the obvious.

After the drowzee fled there was two figure that came at him. The first one is a male frillish, he waved his tentacle and said something, porygon seems relaxed and even replied to the frillish so Peter concluded this frillish is harmless. Then there's also a man with spiky brown hair appeared in the corner of his sight.

Did I scream too loud?

"Hey, you OK?" He asked Peter. "I uh, I heard screaming and....yeah."

Peter assessed the man before gave him a reply. The man didn't seem to hide weapon or other fishy thing, so he's probably not a thief. Peter still kept his guard up though.

"Ah, nothing. Just a naughty drowzee passing by. Are you a trainer?"

'Some people just want to watch the world burn,' and Claire was quickly becoming one of those people. It'd been about 30 minutes since she'd departed the ship, and quite frankly her first impression of the Mirai region was currently on life-support. During the short walk from the Dolvious Harbor to the registration office, she'd been given enough glares and snorts of disdain that she had to inspect her body to ensure she hadn't suddenly contracted leprosy or some other cripplingly contagious disease. She'd been slightly confused and had felt a little wronged until, of course, she realized that every resident of the city was embroiled in some competition, ravenously trying to acquire the famed title of 'Dolvious City's Number 1 Dipshit'. Such was their passionately flippant attitude that she assumed the winner of the competition would be given not only the keys to the city but also have a monument erected in their honor, complete with a name-plate cast from solid gold and studded with diamonds.

She'd been warned the Mirai region was biased towards younger trainers, but this was above and beyond, exceeding her expectations in every conceivable manner. Shaking her head in resignation she calmly ducking into a nearby clothing store. Not ever a minute later she stormed out the door, turning around shoot the store owner the bird. 'Daylight Robbery' was an understatement, {How could a simple hat cost a whopping 1000 PokeYen!?} Although she'd gotten what she'd come for, losing a third of her funds not even an hour into her journey left her fuming, and more importantly 1000 PokeYen poorer. Rambling on internally, Claire placed the wide-brimmed hat she'd bought over her head, tilting it at an angle to obscure her facial features. Maybe- without her doughy cheeks on display, she would be able to pass for someone a bit more advanced in age. At least that way she wouldn't instantly be identified Public Emeny #1. Her ploy seemed to work since the rest of her journey ended up being uneventful. Without further ado, she joined the long meandering line and awaited her turn.

When she finally arrived at the front of the line- 'Thank Arceus!' - she wordlessly slapped her trainer card onto the table sliding it towards the man on duty. She didn't want to be in this town for even a millisecond longer than she had to. The man picked up the Trainer card with practiced ease, likely having had this desk-job for more than just a few years. "Claire Argentia Senica De Lune, well aren't you a pleasant mouthful." His voice was gruff, it grated on her ears, hastening her desire to leave. From that point on, she stopped paying attention to his words. Towards the end of his little speech, no doubt his way of sharing his suffering with the world, she heard mention of 500 PokeYen. Having already been robbed once today she was rather wary of issues involving money, but there wasn't much she could do but obediently fork out another large chunk of her finances. The man at the desk gestured towards a stack of MPL guides off to the side and shooed her off, apparently too lazy to grace her with his voice.

Swiping herself a guide she proceeded to read about the Mirai region's criminal way of pricing a trainer's necessities, opting to pass it off as 'part of the challenge'. {Damned money grubs!} She reminded herself to be more mindful of the residents, they'd happily trick you into 'counting the money earned from selling oneself'- or, at least that's how she thought the saying went.

Now eager to get as far away from this [REDACTED] Town, Claire readjusted her hat and shuffled out of the Registrations Office. At the far end of her vision, she caught a glimpse of a cloaked duo who quickly rounded a corner and vanished from sight. {Ah!? Could they also be young trainers attempting to obscure their features?} Seeing as she had thought of it, she didn't consider it odd that others could think of doing the same thing. The enticement of human interaction from people who weren't complete assholes was enough reason for her to give chase, and so she did. The duo's subsequent stream of illegal activities was...offputting to say the least. But hey- when in Rome, do as the Romans do. The people of Mirai, or at least this one town, were clearly as scummy as they come so why should she play the role of righteous savior? Taking a lesson from the previous pair she prepared to perform her own little Pokemart heist.

"Tsk, the place is swarming with cops now, so I certainly cant rob it a brazenly as the duo before..."

Stalking around outside the premises Claire located a window. Peering inside the Pokemart she noticed a shelf of Pokeballs not even 3 ft from her viewpoint. "This will have to do." It wasn't the best location but it would aid her plan. Disappearing down an alleyway, she re-emerged with a steel bar and then positioned herself below the window. With a soft whisper, she called out her partner, Chysa the mareep. "Alright Chysa, it's your time to shine." Claire grimaced at the flash of light generated by the released Pokemon, she waited for 10..20..40 seconds. Since she hadn't heard any yelling or the approach of footsteps she assumed the light show had gone unnoticed. Holding up the steel bar she began to rub it against Chysa's wool, charging the metal with static electricity. After a few repeats of rubbing and thunder waves, she felt she'd created a decent pseudo-magnet. It was a rather weak magnet and the charge wouldn't last long but it would have to do, Pokeballs weren't that heavy anyway.

Pressing her ear to the wall she shifted the end of her steel baton to the general location of the Pokeballs she'd seen earlier. She listened closely until she heard the soft 'thump' of Pokeballs colliding with the wall, attracted by her DIY magnet. She sent a silent prayer to Jirachi and hoped no one would notice the Pokeballs as she 'levitated' them towards the window. Within minutes she'd slipped 4 Pokeballs out the window with none the wiser. Her success emboldened her, but she knew that pushing her luck would invite calamity. Slipping the circular devices into her back she slipped around a nearby corner and immediately began sprinting, with Chysa as her shadow.

She wasn't afraid of being caught, any missing items would likely be blamed on the earlier duo who unwittingly made themselves a timely scapegoat. Despite that, her heart still raced with excitement. She hadn't done anything criminal in years, but it was nice to know she hadn't lost her knack for it. {It's a shame I couldn't get any Potions... Doubt the magnet would've been strong enough to lift the liquids anyway.} All things considered, she was quite pleased and to top things off she could finally jump towns. Pumping her fist in the air she couldn't help but release an excited cheer, "Alright Chysa! Next Stop Lost Souls Forest!"

From the guide earlier, it would seem cutting through the Lost Souls Forest would be the easiest way the next town, and the first Gym. Maybe she'd even encounter that couple from earlier, they certainly wouldn't be hanging around town any longer. Snickering to herself she thought, {the Mirai region might not be too bad after all...}

"Mirai region. Japanese for future. How ironic. Should've called it Shinai." Snickering at her own joke and poor choice of wordplay, Val stepped off the boat, realizing exactly how much a stable footing beneath her was appreciated. She could take a moment and let the breeze play through her hair as she took a deep breath of the fresh, new air...but no. She had had plenty of 'fresh air' on the boat, and an uphill task and endless possibilities stood before her. Let's get to it; chop chop. "Mal," She called, at the pokemon by her side, who reluctantly waddled out, grumbling about a rest cut short.

An Orre native and her friend for the past three years, it only made sense for the headstrong little Larvitar to join her on this oh-so-hopeful journey. Honestly, she swore the cynical little beast was looking forward to his trainer's pain and imminent defeat; but he had been a loyal companion, and a low maintenance one too! All he seemed to eat was dirt. "Cool it. I'd carry you if I could, but what with you being so fat..." She gleefully cackled as she dodged the small rock he spat out in disgust; evidently something undigested from his last meal. Despite being knee length, the small dual type weighed more than her - and was stronger too, if it was any consolation. "Well then," She clapped her small hands together, "let the pain begin."

Eh- the pain begun already. Maybe a bit of a warning. "Valeriya Mikhailov?" The tone of the man's words conveyed no honest intentions, so Val did little to mask the grimace that spread across her face at the merciless butchering of her name. Her disgust evidently pleased the desk-guy, who sneered ruthlessly. "Go back home, little girl. If you want to step through, it's 500 PokeYen." Ah, monetary compensation. Thug. Pursing her lips in a show of reluctant submission, she shelled over the required amount before swiping a proffered MPL guide and striding off. Nose deep in the book before even exiting the office, Malachite has his work cut out for him, steering the oblivious girl through the crowd; hostile and cruel. Thankfully the socially anxious 'little girl' was spared the condescension as she flipped page after page, finally obediently stopping as the Larvitar placed an arm on her knee.

"Double? Thieves! Scoundrels!" She vehemently hissed to the Rock Skin pokemon as she put the guide away, blinking at her new surroundings. "Do you hear, Mal? Double prices! I can't even-" With an annoyed hand gesture, she collapsed onto the bench Mal had parked her beside, before reaching out to help the Larvitar up. "Well, then. New beginnings, eh? Let's roll with it." As she took a moment of respite on the bench, hand slowly petting the churring reptile, her eyes strayed around the town. It was surprising what silence and time could teach one. She watched Mal lean down and pick up a rock which he began chewing on. She watched flits of pokemon at the far end of the horizon - a forest. She watched people hurry to and fro; some with pokemon, some without. Young and old alike. She watched the ingrained dislike the natives barbed their glances with, and the condescension the elderly had for their juniors. She watched pokemon run from place to place - some lurking in shadows, and some in play. She watched what she supposed were police officers swarm to a certain direction like Mothim to a flame; she watched the sun slowly wane into the distance and finally, with a last bleed of colour, fade - and she tilted her head.

Mal burped, and broke her from her thoughts. "Hey, stob it," She joked; an inside joke between them for over a year now, and Malachite chuckled. Smile lingering on her face, Val leaned back into her seat; as dusk fell, temperatures dropped, and she found herself wrapping her arms around herself as her thoughts wandered. Mal was cold-blooded, but his species were used to far colder climates than this, what with being born underground, far from the heat and light of the sun. And being Dark type, the night suited him. Until he grew to be more of a hunter, he remained in his little baby body, crimson eyes glowing and scything through the dark. "Mal, this region is messed up," She sighed, introspectively, despite not having taken more than a hundred steps into the region. "Younger trainers like me are discriminated against. Hah! Younger!" Mal shared in the joke, poking her ribs first before pulling his dark-streaked cheeks to appear like wrinkles. "Push off, you cheeky dino. Who knows, you'll end up without me before you could realize it," That stopped the Larvitar very quickly.

He couldn't read, but he could understand what Val said to him. "Mhm. Losing three gym battles leads to me losing this piece of paper," She held up her trainer's license; the 'piece of paper' she had worked endlessly towards, "-and you and all my pokemon will be released in the wild. Maybe that's why there are pokemon around in the city; all that remain of shattered hopes and forgotten dreams. What a joke, huh?" There was no humour in her tone as she looked aside bitterly, in time to catch the flit of a pokemon evading her gaze from the corner of her eyes. "And look; see that?" She pointed in the direction of the police officers who had begun gathering over an hour ago. "See that blue roof? Yeh, typical Pokemart. Either arson - and guess what, no smoke - or theft. Guess what's my money on. Either way, no supplies for us for a while. What a start, eh, buddy?" She nudged the increasingly morose reptile, who growled half-heartedly.

"And it's night. Look," Angling her book towards the light of a proximate streetlight, she pointed out one of the few words Mal could read. "PokeCentre," And the Larvitar mouthed something. "Up for walking across town?" They were really at a predicament - it was a no-win for them. No supplies, no place to sleep except the one half-way across town, and 'with a fee of a thou' as Val helpfully chipped in. Malachite wasn't familiar with the concept of human money, but he knew enough to realise they were on a budget. Her parents had none to spare, and Mal turned to face the shifting forms within the forest. "Ghost types. Huge variety in there too. People release their pokemon there. Good thing you're Dark, eh?" Val mirthlessly smiled, as hollow as the sphinx, before getting to her feet. "Well, something needs to be done." Unlike two of her fellow immigrants, dishonesty and replicating the theft they had got away with never even crossed her mind. Reason and logic would've quickly shot it down, but somehow the thought of deceit eluded her altogether. Malachite bitterly spat away some undigested rock, kicking away another unfortunate pebble.

"You know what I think, Mal?" Val piped up, staring off down the far road, outside the radius of the comforting halo of light the streetlamp cast. "I think we'll have to make do. All roads lead to Rome and-" She was cut off by the blood-curdling growl of the pokemon beside her. Staring straight ahead with narrowed eyes and bared fangs, the Larvitar was facing someone - or something - down with undisguised hostility. "Mal," Val called, stepping by his side. "Get that pokemon under control, girl, or I will," An equally intimidating voice growled out from the darkness, and squinting, Val bit her lip as she quickly contemplated her position. "Mal, down." She finally spoke after a minute of hesitation, causing the Larvitar to drop his lips, but continued glaring, and a chuckle emerged from the shadows. "Good call. ID?"

"I- ...what?" Val blinked as a man stepped into the circle of illumination, dressed unmistakably like the swarm of people collected around the Mart. A police officer. Darkrai wept, he had really scared her! "Um, of course, Officer," She hastily offered as light glinted off his badge and he raised an eyebrow at her. Digging out her trainer license while fumbling and spilling her books and materials onto the floor, she tried hard to ignore the snort that accompanied the man's smirk. How demeaning; her face burned with shame as she crouched to hastily gather away the vestiges of her clumsiness. "Take it, and stop lurking around here like a bloody criminal," Without further ado, the man flung the card at her, which struck her cheek before falling to the ground. She flinched back violently, staring after the man with wonder and fury. "Lar," Mal spoke in his rough voice, keeping a paw on her leg. "I- er, yes, what," She blinked once, twice, and was okay. She stuffed her belongings back in, took a swig of water from her bottle, carefully poured some down Mal's throat and straightened up.

The oppressive darkness seemed to press ever further inwards, sending tremors down her spine; she shivered, and she wasn't sure it was all the cold. It felt strange - new town, new life, unfamiliar surroundings, at night. Val was undergoing a bit of a depersonalization moment - this was a body and she inhabited it and it was moving and- Malachite growled, and she snapped back to reality, swerving to avoid a trashcan. It wasn't that the town made her uneasy - it was the people. The Larvitar's head snapped sideways as a black tail scampered out of view - Poochyena? - and Val blew on her fingers to warm them.

"Fine night, Mal?" She called out, just as a pair of wings blindly blundered past her and she ducked, screeching in as much panic as the bearer of the wings. Mal let out a low roar, flinging the rock he had in his hand at the aggressor. Whether it found its target or not was left to the imagination and the abyssal shroud of darkness of quickly approaching night as silence prevailed over the area. Val got to her feet, trembling, and the brave little Larvitar drew closer to her, keeping a cold, scaly hand reassuringly on her calf. "Th-thanks, thanks Mal I- thanks," She babbled out, adrenaline coursing through her veins at the shock. Well, then. "I'm gonna say it: This sucks." Malachite chortled in agreement.

Levi arched an eyebrow at the reply he'd received. "Drowzee huh? Your lucky, ive heard sometimes they lead kids away for the rest of there lives." He stated as a matter-of-factually, resting his hands on his hips while looking at the path ahead. "Huh? Oh yeah, im a trainer." He added, glancing back at the younger boy before giving a thorough stare down. "Based of what little I can gather, he seems to be a rookie on the island as well, doubt ill have to worry about hiding any of my goodies this time." He concluded in his head, easing up slightly, but only as much as the ever so eerie forest would allow him. So.....names Levi, who are you?" He asked after the long moment of awkward silence had passed.

Felix's stomach did a flop at the arrival of a new person into the clearing. He had spiky brown hair, and a Shellder perched on his shoulder. And talking to him was a boy with a Porygon. And of course, he noticed how Prince had wandered over. He glanced at the two people and their Pokemon, studying them, from his spot out of view, as his brain thought up different plans of action. Since Prince had already revealed himself, they would be found out eventually, if they tried catching it, seeing it as a wild, or simply realized how tame it was. His team was that unnamed Shuppet and Volt. Volt could probably take down that Shellder if a fight broke out, but if it has an Ice Type Move, he might be in trouble. So if a fight broke out, he would need to keep his distance to study its moves. The Porygon was a different story. Since it was a Normal type, it had only one weakness, ad could know a variety of moves. So it could be trickier. Maybe send out his Shuppet for her immunity to deal with the Porygon until Volt defeated the Shellder. Maybe Jezebel's Growlithe could help. However he quick dispelled that though, as both of the Pokemon he considered for the fight were untrained, and hadn't been used in a battle once. Hopefully Prince would be able to take down a Porygon. However this was all what if thoughts. They might not even be people to be worried about, but the thing that made him nervous was the knife clutched in the Porygon trainer's hand.

He clenched his fists and gave a glance to Jezebel, signalling for him to follow him. If they were Pokemon Thieves or something of the sort, then if they found out they were hiding, then it wouldn't be pretty. They would have a smaller chance of talking their way out. While Felix had been considering all of this, they had been talking, which led him to believe they might already know each other; he couldn't hear their conversation from his position.

"Volt, stay at my heels. If I give a snap, get ready for battle," Felix said with a hushed voice as he gave anther glance to Jezebel. Maybe he was being overly cautious, but it wouldn't hurt to be prepared or the worst. It was what seemed to be the norm for this region.

Felix stepped into the clearing and took almost silent footsteps as he walked a few feet forward. He stopped roughly nine feet away and said along, "What happened? Why was there yelling?"

“You were definitely rambling. But there’s nothing wrong with that. If anything, it’s better than tired silence.” That went better than he expected! Someone who appreciated rambling...rather rare, but considering what else they had to listen to...there wasn't much competition.

He glanced back at Eleanor, who shut her book and...stopped? Why was she stopping? And why was she taking out gardening tools...?...Well, it explained the botany book. But this didn't seem like the best place to collect plants...Eh, who was he to judge?

“There’s really no need to feel flustered, Kiran." Eleanor continued, beginning to snip away at the plant. A soft fluttering of wings came into the clearing- and a tiny blue Pokemon making the noise. It landed on Eleanor's head, but she didn't seem to notice. Perhaps that was a good thing...Swablu were mostly passive creatures, but when any animal feels threatened, it would attack- or at least, flee. So Kiran just kept watching it. “We can look for a Pokemon for you to catch if you would like. I’ve got everything I need now.”

So...she really did just want plants? Kiran supposed she really did work in an office or something. Or a scientist. Those were both interesting...he'd have to ask her about it later. Because that offer she made was quite attractive...As Eleanor finished her plant collecting, she pointed her pen to the bird swaddled on her head. “You just have to be a little more assertive like this little guy like here. So, little Swablu. Do you want to join us?”

Oh, so she DID know about the Swablu...Yeah, it's kind of hard ignoring something that sits itself on to you. "I'm not sure if that was metaphorical or not, but Swablu are pretty calm and passive as a species. It would probably follow us whether or not either of us wanted it to." Kiran smiled at both Eleanor and the fluffy bird perched on her head. "It is cute and doesn't seem violent, so I don't mind being followed by it. And, uh, thanks for the advice...and offer, which I will take you up on! I could really use another Pokemon...not that the one I have is bad or anything...just...just..."

He trailed off and stopped smiling. Kiran spotted it out of the corner of his eye- a glowing pale eye. It shifted away before he got a good look at it. "I...think were being watched." He spotted it again! But once again it jumped away into the shadows. Kiran reached for the Pokeball he had in his bag. This would be his first real battle...If it ever came out of the darkness. "I suppose it's a ghost. Type. Not an actual ghost, I mean, let's not be that ridiculous...Point is, be on your toes."

Jezebel looked around in frustration and fear. After getting over the oddness of that Drowzee, she had turned to find her partner Pokemon had vanished! Whipping around at Felix's voice she saw her missing team member floating beside strangers. She could feel her rage rising; hadn't they just had a conversation this earlier today on the boat?! What was he doing?!

Taking out Growlithe's pokeballs and getting it ready, just in case, she snuck along behind Felix. " How do you want to go about this? Growling can distract Shellder for Volt, or at the very least they can take attacks for each other. And I doubt a Porygon can defeat two ghosts. Prince may be mellow but if a fight breaks out, he's no slouch," she offered. "Or not..." she added as Felix carefully went into the clearing. She followed, staying close in case things went south. She made sure to give Prince a stern, angry look for running off. However, he seemed too busy making friends to mind.

Prince meanwhile, was chatting away with Shellder and Porygon. Neither seemed frightened anymore, so he felt pretty good about himself. Then he felt something. Not a ghost but the sensation of unfamiliar, hungry eyes on him. It was a feeling he knew well from the sea. A predsator was setting it's sights on someone nearby but with all these plants, he couldn't figure out where the threat was!

Seeing her partner draw his tentacles close to his body as his cheeks puffed out (no doubt he was preparing a bubblebeam) and he started to shake, Jezebel stopped in her tracks. Lightly laying a hand on Felix's arm to get his attention, she kept her eyes on Prince. "Something's wrong. Prince is scared; there has to be something nearby."

Teddy was in the Lost Souls Forest, currently in a Pokemon battle against another trainer.

"Smoky! Use Flame Charge!" Teddy demanded, clenching his fist beside him. Teddy was feeling rather anxious as he seemed to be losing the battle and was intimidated at how strong the opponents Mimikyu was. "Tepig-Te!" Cried Smoky as he charged towards the opposing Mimikyu whilst his body got engulfed in flames. Smoky quickly accelerated as the speed boost from the attack kicked on. The opposing trainer was a fat, bald guy in a suit and smart shoes. He smirked and laughed. Tepig crashed into Mimikyu and flipped backward controlling the recoil. Smoky was shocked to see that Mimikyu seemed unharmed, and to only see its head ragdoll to the left. "Wha-!? It was a decoy?!" Teddy stuttered. "It's Mimikyu's special ability. Now Mimikyu, use Shadow Sneak!" The trainer responded. "Oh no! Smoky Dod-" Teddy got cut off as Mimkyu sharply sunk into the ground and rapidly emerged from underneath Smoky launching him into the air. "Tepig!" Smoky cried. "Finish this with Shadow Claw!" The trainer confidently said. Mimikyu jumped after Smoky as a large shadowy claw appeared from underneath its Pikachu like rag. Teddy wasn't sure what he could and felt helpless as Mimikyu slashed Tepig toward the ground, Smoky bouncing off the ground and crashing into Teddy, launching them back. "Te...pig," Smoky whimpered.

"Oh, crap...we lost again," Teddy thought as he just laid there in defeat. The trainer approached the gutted duo with swagger and a beaming smile. "Pay up, punk!" He yelled. Teddy sulky reached into his pocket and threw him 150 PokeYen. "Thank you very much. You might as well go home now, kid. Before you get yourself or that weak ass Tepig killed," The Trainer roared with laughter before waddling way with his Mimikyu beside him. "Te...pig-Te," Smoky whimpered in an angered tone as he tried to stand but was too weak to.

Teddy picked up Smoky and carried him over to a tree. Where he sat under, leaning against the trunk. He reached into his bag and felt a small rain cloud over him as he noticed the emptiness inside it. He managed to find one of the few items pulling out a potion. "My last Potion..." Teddy sighed as he pointed it towards Smoky. "I'm sure you're used to the sting by now," Teddy said before spraying the potion. "Te," Smoky cried as he flinched. Teddy stroked Smoky as he sighed once more. "We haven't won a single battle all day, it doesn't matter if it's a trainer or a wild Pokemon. We just keep getting wrecked," Teddy thought. "I'm sorry Smoky, we'll get a win soon. Then it will open the floodgates from then on," Teddy said trying to reassure him. However, Teddy knew that they were in real bad shape at the moment. They've got almost no money, no potions, and only one Pokeball to his name. He's probably one of the youngest trainers on this island, and he's starting to realize how deep the pool that he got thrown into was. Especially on his first experience of being a trainer. He opened the guide book and started to read as Smoky recovered. He was hoping to find a bit of inspiration andhope in the book, perhaps even a will to live but who knows.

"Mine is Peter Rayleigh. Nice to meet you." Peter consider to offer a handshake. But that's probably not the wisest thing considering they are just met in a haunted forest.

Meanwhile Porygon noticed that the frillish in front of him suddenly looked rather uncomfortable. It asked the frillish what was wrong. Having made by human technology, porygon lacked a lot of natural aspect of a pokemon, like the ability to sense danger or the knowledge to survive in wilderness.

"What happened? Why was there yelling?"

Peter was surprised when another brown haired boy appeared. Now he really thought that his scream is too loud... or these two are just two thieves in collaboration, now he thought about it, he was basically surrounded by two boys and a frillish right? Peter sheathed his kitchen knife in the backpack, but kept the handle in a position that is easy to draw, just in case.

"Ahh, no. I just startled by a wild pokemon. Anyway, are you two acquiantance?" Peter tried to poke more information from them, but he wouldn't rely on what they said though, instead he would carefully analyze their body language, tone and expression.

Titus growled as the boy approached, Levi not yet noticing him. The small shelled pokemon jumped from his trainers shoulder, standing steady right in front of Levi, his eyes locked on the pokemon with the young boy. Levi glanced down at his pokemon before looking up to the unknown trainer. "....he had a bad run in with a Drowzee." He answered the boy in quietly, gesturing to Peter. "Titus, stand down bud, its fine. Besides, thats Shinx, an electric type, its a bad match up for you anyway." He informed his partner, his eyes locked on the boy and his Shinx. "And who's asking?' He questioned, refocusing his attention on the new face, his expression plain yet analytical.

Titus spun around, glaring at Levi. "Shellder! Shell!" The pokemon complained, his trainers words lighting a fire in his eyes.

"Buddy im not saying your weak. Its just not a good match, dont be mad." Levi retorted, realizing his pokemon's pride was greater than he initially thought. "Honestly I chose Shellder because of there tame nature and future Ice typing, this is not the attitude I expected from such a little pokemon." He slapped himself mentally, angered by the fact that he hadnt taken more time to get to know his teammate before starting this journey.

"Shelllll! Der!" The pokemon cried in protest, turning back towards the Shinx, giving it a long glare.

Levi scratched the back of his head, giving a shrug. "Hey man, looks like Titus wants to battle you, I see no reason to disagree with him. You up for it? We'll worry about names later." He said in a more energetic tone than before, a small grin spreading across his face. "No tricks, no cheating, im just feeling sporadic." He added, looking down towards Titus. "We're at a disadvantage here, gonna be tricky....but I think Titus has what it takes." He reassured himself, thinking up a strategy as he waited for a reply.

"Is battling here really a good idea?" Jezebel asked him, stepping away from Felix with her arms crossed. She headed toward Prince, who still shook from fright, looking around at the trees fearfully. "In case you forgot, this forest is a common place to release trained Pokemon. Do you really want to waste your pokemon's good health before you're safely on the other side?" she asked Levi.

Turning to little Titus, she asked. "And what about you? Is your pride more important to you than his safety? At least wait until you're away from the potentially life threatening situation before fighting for an inevitable loss," she said with a half hearted shrug as though this should be obvious.

Even through his fright, Prince rremembred to remind his trainer that she had forgotten her manners. So he gave her a small hip bump with his lower tentacles to nudge her in the right direction. Sighing from the corrective mannerism, she added in a dull monotone, "Jezebel Xienstien; how do y'all do?"

Prince, his cheeks still bloated from the prepared blast of bubbles, nuzzled his trainer thankfully for correcting herself. When he righted himself, he jerked back in shock. In the trees, about eight yards away, he could have sworn he had seen a arrow-tipped tail barely glide above a piece of underbrush. He had been right; something was hunting them!

"I'm not sure if that was metaphorical or not, but Swablu are pretty calm and passive as a species. It would probably follow us whether or not either of us wanted it to."

It was in that moment that Eleanor realized she may have worded herself poorly. Swablu were generally a passive species, but they were also the type that liked to land on peoples’ heads and pretend to be fluffy hats. They were at least assertive enough to do that and the one on her head was likely no different in that regard.

While Kiran continued to talk, the Swablu finally answered Eleanor by moving around a bit and making itself slightly more comfortable. Eleanor picked up one of her empty Pokeballs from her bag and readied herself to hold it up to see if Swablu would jump in on its own, but she heard Kiran say something that made her decide to rescind that action.

"I...think were being watched."

Her eyes narrowed as she placed the ball back in the bag and grabbed Lilith’s from her right side hip pouch.

"I suppose it's a ghost. Type. Not an actual ghost, I mean, let's not be that ridiculous...Point is, be on your toes."

With a flick of her wrist, she opened the Pokeball and released Lilith who landed gently on her shoulder with a fierce look on her face—well, as fierce a look as she could muster.

“You as well. I haven’t noticed this presence at all so you’re going to need to lead, Kiran. Do you think you can handle this?” Eleanor asked as she got into a sort of fighting stance and kept an eye in the direction Kiran was looking. “Actually, don’t answer. Just get ready.”

"As much as I hate backing away from a fight, the girl is right." Felix said as Jezebel made her way into the area and spoke her mind, chewing out both the trainer and his Shellder. Felix felt as if the tension was so thick it could be cut with a butter knife. Something told Felix, that those two males had just met, as in the quick change of focus and the asking of a battle from the man who didn't give a name. His eyes quickly went to the boy who had screamed and noticed that the knife was now sheathed. This might have been an attempt to show how he meant no harm, but there still seemed to have some tension.

Felix was pulled from his thoughts as Volt gave a cry. Felix glanced at his partner to learn his fur was glowing, but this time, even brighter than it had with the Shuppet encounter. His partner had seen a black arrow tipped tail shuffle through the nearby brush, as if something was stalking them. Immediately upon seeing his partner's attitude, Felix snapped his fingers. This signaled his partner to get into a fighting stance with his fangs bared wide.

"Okay, I don't know who you two are, but we are surrounded by something. Maybe a back of Pokemon, but whatever it is, it's about to attack. Now I'm assuming that, that Drowzee with the bruised snout, came from here making this it's territory. Or maybe, this is another Pokemon's territory, which is beginning to seem more likely. So be ready for some kind of fight." Felix's voice was on edge as he spoke, yet he kept it at a calm volume level, and his shoulders and body still seemed in the same loose position as earlier.

As the duo walked further and further into the dark and ominous forest, they could hear the skittering and scattering of Pokemon either running away from something in the trees or in the bushes below, or the Pokemon are hunting something. With how far they've gone in the past 10 minutes, they felt like they made quite a bit of progress. That was when both of them felt something was near. They crouched down, and practically walked on their hands and knees like an Oranguru or some other monkey Pokemon. There was something there. They could hear growling. Maybe it was some canine. Maybe it was alone or in a pack. That's when they heard a howl.

Both of them knew that unmistakable sound; the howl that caused local folks to believe the grim reaper or the emissary of the devil were near. It was a Houndoom. It was signaling for the pack to close in on them. A pack full of Houndoom and Houndour. This wasn't good, and both Shade and Pyros were on the outside of this circle of death. Inside, they could hear the cautious and scared tones of Pokemon and trainers. They must be from the league. Hopefully, these Houndoom and Houndours weren't trained by a human.

Shade and Pyros both let out Ghast and Fiaro. The little Fletchling appeared in a flash of light and perched on a nearby tree, while Ghast followed the little bird. The flash of light alerted some members of the Houndoom pack, and Pyros and Shade ducked into the shrubbery. The leader wasn't amused and could smell them. But there were better morsels they surrounded; they couldn't let them escape. He decided to give one warning Flamethrower, spewing it out in their general direction. Luckily, Ghast and Fiaro were above the flame, but Pyros and Shade nearly got hit by it, singing their hairs and Shade getting a small burn on her back, burning her clothes and her cape. Luckily, her hood was untouched, but sadly the venom that seeped in the flames were now in her wounds, causing an immense amount of pain. She bit her lip, trying to hold back the screeches of agony. She could feel her back tearing on the inside. The venom wasn't deadly, it was just torturous.

Pyros, seeing his sister in large amounts of pain and the tears falling from her face, glared at the Houndooms in front of him. He decided to go for some offensive Status moves. He told Fiaro to use Tailwind with a sharp whistle. The Houndooms that were closer to the whistle glared over to the voice, but they then felt a sudden force of wind created by such a tiny Pokemon. It's pectoral muscles were much bigger than most birds its species, which gave priority to its Flying-Type Status moves (Gale Wings) and made them slightly stronger. He threw gusts of wind around the area, causing a little wall of air to push them back and away from the circle, creating a small opening. Although, it was too small for anyone to go through just yet. That's when Ghast came in.

Ghast spat out a glob of poisonous toxins that seeped through the skins of individuals that it hits. A few Houndooms got hit with it, and now were crippled due to the poison. They growled and shot fire towards Ghast, but Ghast smirked, spitting out a special poisonous liquid now. She spat it out to the ones that were poisoned, increasing the damage output when the poisonous liquid began to corrode the flesh, causing the Houndooms to roar and bark in pain and anger. They attacked with flames at their general direction, but Ghast and Fiaro were retreated to their Poke Balls before the attacks even hit. The duo, now getting the attention of the entire Houndoom pack, jumped up into the trees, and made up the trees like a wild Mankey bent on chasing after its prey.

They hopped higher and higher, having near misses from the venomous Flamethrowers until they got higher. That didn't stop the trees from burning, though. When a Flamethrower hit the tree branch Pyros was on, its structure crippled immensely. Seeing this, Shade jumped toward the branch, using her weight to bring it down, and her momentum to swing off of it just in time to land on another tree branch, although almost falling in the process. Pyros jumped off in the nick of time too, holding the stump of the tree branch as it fell and landed on a couple of Houndooms. The ones that were crippled from being badly poisoned already couldn't run anymore, and couldn't release their Flamethrowers into a manageable stream of pain. It was more like a soft whimper of embers now. It got to the point where they couldn't walk anymore, either. However, this was only a portion of the circle. The other Houndooms went on a panic and a rage, attacking everything they see, but right now their attention was more focused on Shade and Pyros, who were up in the trees. They would attack in their general direction, showing where they are, unless they get interrupted by the group below.

"Right, I think the boy is right. Now is not the time for duel." Peter agreed with Felix.

Suddenly a bright light came from somewhere nearby. Peter ran to the source and was horrified when he saw several houndooms tried to shoot a couple of trainers on a tree with flamethrower. The attacks generated a lot of light that could be seen from afar. Worse, the howl of another houndoom could be heard. They were calling reinforcement!

*thump*

*thump*

"There's people up there! Porygon, thunderbolt!!" One of the houndoom got hit but the damage didn't seems too significant.

*thump*

*thump*

*thump*

*thump*

These dull thumping sound sounds familiar. Peter took a few seconds before he recalled this sound. It is that seismitoad!!

A huge seismitoad entered the area with a shriek and shot down a houndoom with a water gun. It looks enraged by the forest damage caused by the houndooms. The houndooms looks terrified but one of them let out a howl and rallied the rest of the houndooms against the seismitoad.

Based on Peter's encounter with the seismitoad before, this beast is just on the whole different level so its victory was guaranteed. But he feared that this seismitoad wouldn't be satisfied with beating the houndooms and would turned its attention to the trainers.

"Everyone, move! Let's leave this place quickly!!" Peter yelled and ran.

Levi gave a small smile at the objections to battle. "Heh, youll learn soon enough that pausing for a battle in these woods isnt dangerous at all compared to some of the challenges we'll have to face down the line. This region is NOT for the weak." He thought to himself, shaking his head slowly before being snapped out of his thoughts by a group of Houndoom and Houndour surrounding them.

"Shellder!" Titus cried as a Water Gun shot from its mouth, slamming into one of the smaller Houndour that was readying to attack the two new arrivals. The Houndour whimpered as the super effective blast slammed into it, sending it rolling away on the forest floor.

Levi arched an eyebrow, surprised by the effectiveness of the attack, "Not bad bud." He praised Titus, only to grow wide eyed and quiet at the site of an angry looking Seismitoad appearing from the treeline, firing off powerful Hydro Pumps which tore through the Houndoom's at a rather quick rate. "Yeah im with this guy!" Levi added with a laugh, taking off behind Peter. "Okay, now where are we?" He thought to himself while fleeing and trying to open his guide map at the same time. "Hey! Its says the exit isnt to far north from here, lets move!" He yelled, looking back at the others as he spoke while following the trail on the map.

“This is what I wanted to catch,” Felix thought to himself at the arrival of the Houndour and Houndoom pack, and the thought was furthered the addition of the Sesmitoad. “Volt, we aren’t running just yet, so stay sharp,” Felix commanded sternly. He was fighting the urdge to run, wiht everything in his body. He would need to be brave to conquer the league. And this is where it would all begin. The Sesmitoad would be too hard to catch, with it’s amazing brute power, and then there was the amount of Houndoom and Houndour who were fighting it. He wanted one of the creatures that stuck fear into people, bu just their appearance. He wanted one of those Fire and Dark types. But first he would have to join their cause, and help with the fight.

“Volt, Iron Tail on that Seismitoad!” Felix gave his order, his Shinx charged full speed at his opponent. His ability Rivalry kicked in, boosting his attack, as the Sesmitoad was male, which in turn would make Iron Tail stronger. The small Electric Type’s tail was now glowing with a white light, as the distance between him and the Water and Ground type, steadily increased. Then he sprung up i the air, using his back legs, and slammed the energy coated tail into the side o the distracted Sesmitoad, whose focus had been towards the Houndoom pack.

The Water and Ground type turned around quickly and angrily swung his arm, while it glowed with and orange light. Brick Break. As Felix expected, it was trained, and was a released Pokemon. Volt was quickly sent flying back, and the Seismitoad gave an angry grumble, before it opened it’s maw to fire a highly pressurized beam of water at Felix’s feet, known as Hydro Pump, with enough force, it smashed the ground and the force had knocked Felix back.

The boy slammed hard unto the dirt, slamming his head down in one quick jerking motion. Volt was also taken hard by the hit he had taken, and was struggling to rise, while his trainer did the same. “Nice hit. But you’re forgetting something you brute. I’m not your only opponent here.” As he spoke, one of the Houndoom, which Felix assumed was the leader, jumped up and fired a powerful blast on fire that exploded upon impact with the Seismitoad’s skin. The fire trailed across the skin of him, giving him a nasty burn. So the Houndoom Leader, was also well trained, a it seemed to be a well put battler. Inferno is a more, that is very easy to miss, but will always burn their opponent upon impact. So while the Seismitoad had been distracted, the Houndoom had taken advantage of the situation.

However it did little to stop it's next attack, with a powerful Earthquake, as the Seismitoad slammed it's feet down, sending a ripple of powerful earthen energy that knocked back many of the Fire and Dark types. The ground collapsed with the new cracks, and many of the Pokemon lay defeated.

"Shit, we're losing." Felix muttered as he struggled to stand. Volt came rushing over, looking in decent enough shape, and stood by his trainer. The young trainer's shoulders had been rubbed raw, but other than that, he was fine. He felt a bit dazed from the blow, and had no idea of where the others had gone. He knew that the two mysterious male trainers had ran away, but he had lost track of Jezebel. He hoped she had stayed around, as he would need help taking down this Pokemon. The way he saw it, was that these Houndoom and Houndour were probably defending their territory, protecting some younger members of the pack. They had intruded and that wasn't right. Hopefully he could defeat this thing and maybe earn one of their respect enough so it would join him. And if not, as it was a somewhat of a pipe dream, then he could apologize for invading their territory and make them hate humans just a little bit less.

Myrna's shoulders relaxed, a small chuckle escaping her lips as one of the Phantump bumped into another, starting a miniature- but in no way violent- argument between the two. She almost didn't hear the distant, but familiar voice calling out her name. "Matt?" She asked, turning his way. However, as she did that, the Phantump turned and began to stiffen some, so she hurriedly caught their attention by singing the first song that popped into her head: Greensleeves, or as she started pronouncing it after the first verse, 'Green Leaves', like the ones hanging off the Phantump's twiggy heads. It was way too fast to be any proper rendition of the song, not to mention her singing was average at best to begin with, but it did manage to catch the Phantump's attention, causing them to dance in the air excitedly.

After singing a few more of the same versus she could remember, and singing 'dadada's in replace of the lyrics she couldn't, Myrna eventually began to dance, or what was basically composed of her just spinning around a lot. However, as she did it, she gestured with her hand towards her discarded bag, hoping one of the boys would get the gist and retrieve it for her. She eventually began to twirl away from the boys then, happy (well, maybe not so much for the long run) to see that the Phantump were following her, dancing along with the Unovian, no matter what. Hopefully she made enough distance between the boys and the Phantump to allow them to grab her bag and let them lead the way in walking out of the forest. If she couldn't force her way out of the situation from where she was without causing conflict, then perhaps the Stump Pokemon would follow her as she followed behind the boys until they eventually the dancing wore them out and they went home.

Ear piercing howls screeched throughout the forest- Claire ignored them. I mean, this is a haunted forest known for its abundance of ghost types. If I run off checking every single ominous sound or sight I'd never make it through. With sound logic and no real reason to go off course, the female trainer continued on building a steady rhythm. Accompanying the soft crunch of twigs and bramble underfoot and the occasional *click* of Chysa's cloven feet on rocks was a crescendo of opera like hums which filled the air until - *gak!*

A sudden inhalation of a generous amount of smoke left the silver-haired trainer doubled over, hacking out her left lung in a prolonged series of chokes and retches. The little lamb tilted her head in worry, her doe eyes fixed up the gasping and teary-eyed woman, bleats of empathetic distress echoed from her maw. By a stroke of fortune or just biological design, the woolen Pokemon was simply too close to the ground to be affected by the now smoggy air. Dropping to the ground Claire gulped down mouthfuls of fresh-'er' air in a bid to recover. Gradually her breathing calmed and her newly refocused eyes scanned the forest. The smoke- which for some reason she hadn't noticed before- and erubescence of the forest ahead, awash with flames, were more than enough for Claire to make a few inferences. The forest was on fire, and judging by the growls, snarls and general sounds of conflict this fire was caused by battle rather than a natural event, such as a lightning strike. Burying her nose in her shirt, Claire rose to her feet and set off in the direction of the battle, and hopefully other people.

Within moments she could make out a few hazy but recognizable silhouettes. A pack of Houndour, led by Houndoom, had surrounded a Siesmitoad assaulting it with tooth and nail along with the occasional blast of tongues of fire. Apart from those two parties a possible third party, a boy with a Shinx, stood off to the side. She noted that he was lightly injured. Finally, almost unnoticed, was a Sewaddle laying prone below one of the singed tree, no doubt a victim of the crossfire. Its leafy overcoat blanketed in soot, face sickly and paling. Without hesitation, Claire retrieved a Pokeball from her bag and rolled it over to the sallow Pokemon. It bounced gently against the Sewaddle's head and opened with a *click*, with a *swish* the Sewaddle was absorbed into the Pokeball, and three wobbles later it was caught.

While slipped her new catch into her bag Claire's focus was pinned onto the ongoing battle. 'Well, high-risk reaps high-rewards, might as well just fish in troubled waters and hope for a big catch.' With those deciding thoughts she stepped out of the brush and into the clearing, her Mareep a short bound behind her. She grin, "Hi there stranger, need some help?" With a crackle of electricity Chysa released a soft bleat and set up an Electric Terrain. It would invigorate the fellow electric type, namely Shinx, but didn't require Claire to actually get too close to the battle itself. She naturally wasn't very willing to rush headlong into such a dangerous situation, especially since she wasn't certain of the boy's intentions. She ensured she was still in a position to escape should the need arise.

When the dark dogs had advanced, Prince had shielded Jezebel with his own body, letting loose his built up bubblebeam in the process. He sprayed it forward in a wave, trying to force the enemy back. He liked to consider himself a reasonable Pokemon, but there was no way he was going lie down and be dinner, or abandon Jezebel for that matter.

Still, as three Houndours and a large Houndoom kept pressing forward, Jezebel and Prince were being pushed back, away from the group and into the trees. "Try water pulse!" she called out as she fell to ground. She felt her shoulder scream in pain as it slammed into the rough forest floor. Prince was hardly affected, his balance barely disturbed. The same couldn't be said for their opponents. The Houndours fell to the ground and struggled to regain their footing. The Houndoom managed to keep from falling to the floor but turned back to glare at the Pokemon responsible.

"Hou houndoom doom," he commanded. While he was distracted, Prince went to Jezebel, trying to get her to lie still. Jezebel took advantage of the moment as well and sent out her newly caught Growlithe as the Houndours went to help fight presumably whatever had caused the earthquake; Jezebel couldn't really see what that was.

Growling materialized from the red haze and immediately began growling, whipping around in an attempt to figure out her location. She saw the human who had caught her lying in pain with the water type (she had no idea what species it is but it smelled ghostly) trying to tend to her. She had never understood why a Pokemon would care so deeply for a humans but since the human had dragged her here, whatever enemy they were facing was her enemy for now as well.

"Alright, Growlithe, we're still learning about each other so show me the best you can do to this thing!" the purple haired human called out as she stood. Thinking over the moves she knew, she remembered one she had known since birth. It was a strong one so she had only recently been able to use it to full effect without severely wounding herself in the process. "Growlithe!" she acknowleded as she charged forward. As she ran, a golden trail started appearing behind her as the force of her run tried to turn the air just in front of her gold.

"Is that double edge?" Jezebel asked aloud as her Growlithe managed to successfully swerve to hit the Houndoom who had tried to dodge. The fire/dark type went down and struggled to stand again. Her Growlithe was breathing heavily and its legs were shaking. The poor thing had thrown most of what it recovered since its capture into that one blow but she was still willing to fight.

Peter's route blocked by two dusclops. But the real threat coming from the big guy behind them, a dusknoir. They systematically blocked further escape route, using the opportunities to attack weakened houndours and houndooms that attempted to flee. Peter could heard their horrible laugh when they ganged up and beat a houndour with their fist.

"Levi, I think we should head back." At least they would be safer if all the trainers teamed up to escape this mess. Then he realized something.

Duskull family line is supposed to be nocturnal. He scanned the surrounding area, it sure got darker, but some of the burning trees provide enough light. Seems the trainers would be trapped in this forest for the night.

Levi stopped a few feet behind Peter, assessing the situation. "Welp, looks like we're gonna be here for awhile as is, might as well help the others while we're at it." He nodded to the younger boy, turning away from the ghostly trio. "Lets not take our time." He added, breaking into a dead sprint towards the others."Was hoping to get through the forest without getting involved in others peoples problems, they only bring problems onto oneself as well. Look what happened! You got involved, now youve got problems!" He scolded himself while heading towards the rising smoke cloud. "But in the end, guess ill need these guys if I wanna make it back through this forest, as much as I hate to admit it." He concluded, glancing over his shoulder to Peter. "I think we've got just the trick to help them out a bit!" He informed his new acquaintance with a thumbs up.

As Levi reached the others he quickly threw out Titus' pokeball. "Go Titus! Use Supersonic!" He ordered, his pokemon releasing rings of energy from its body that washed over the distracted Siesmitoad, angering it even more. The large water pokemon roared into the sky before flailing around wildly and charging forward, slamming into a nearby tree out of confusing. "Now while we've got the chance! Everyone attack it!' Levi yelled towards the other before looking down at Titus, a flicker of excitement appearing in the trainers eyes. "Use Icicle Spear!" He yelled, throwing his fist forward.

"Shellder!" Titus cried before launching large spikes of ice at the confused pokemon. The Seismitoad roared as it was slammed with one...two..three..four Icicle Spear's in succession, forcing the stronger pokemon to lurch backwards for a brief moment, the Houndoom pack taking this opportunity to charge a powerful collective Flamethrower.

Matt and Sven stared on awkwardly as Myrna seemed to ignore them and continue in her dance. They watched for a few seconds longer, and Sven scratched his head.

"Well, crap. They may have hypnotized her into becoming their dancing monkey after all. And I don't fancy Gligar's chances against all of those by himself."

"Wait, look at that. Did you catch that?" Matt asked, pointing. Sven squinted his eyes. "Uh . . . . . . no. What are you looking at? It's getting darker out here by the minute."

"Her hands." Matt pointed again. "See? She just did it again. It's subtle, but she's flicking her finger regularly at her bag on the ground, there. I think Myrna's actually making use of hand signals, like I suggested before!"

He waited until Myrna had danced her group of ghosts away from the clearing, like a rat piper. Then he darted ahead, and grabbed up her pack. "Got it! Now, let's see if we can find anything in here of use for this situation. Any Repels?"

A few seconds of search later, Sven interrupted him by frantically tugging his arm. "They're coming back this way. We need to retreat!"

Matt clenched his jaw in frustration, but pulled back with Sven into some bushes further north. Myrna's merry group of Phantump continued its wild dance, going in random directions, yet . . . coming closer with time. With a sudden thought, Matt beckoned Sven to move with him even further north from the clearing. As he suspected, Myrna and the ghost pokemon danced indirectly towards him. For just a moment, she caught his eye through the branches.

She knows . . . she's following us. But to what end? We can't let her continue as a hostage to those wraiths; they'll wear her out in another hour for sure. His eyes widened as an idea struck him. But perhaps we can lead Myrna into a safe zone of our own creation. Yes . . . it's been a while since we last did this, but I think it's time to roll out the Security Den.

"Onix!"

Matt's command was not loud, but it carried a tone that all of his trained pokemon recognized. In a couple of seconds, Onix's massive head popped out amidst some thick undergrowth. Matt moved in the direction of Onix's hole, pausing for a moment to tear up some leaves the size of elephant ears. Sven followed his lead, and the two young men soon each had an armful of greenery. Matt checked a moment to make sure that Myrna could still see him, then approached Onix's hole. He took Sven's leaves, then beckoned for him to move ahead.

"Onix, back down again. Prepare another hole that merges with this one, coming out . . ." He pointed to where Sven now stood. "Right about there."

With a subdued growl, Onix ducked down, leaving an earthen circle large enough in diameter to trap a goat, or a small donkey. Quick as a flash, Matt placed down the elephant-ear leaves to cover the opening, then double-checked to see if Myrna was still coming towards him. He backed away toward Sven, aligning himself so that the hole was directly between them and Myrna. All he could do now was hope that her indirect path brought her across the sweet spot on the ground . . . and that Onix hadn't made the drop into the underground den too steep.

“You as well. I haven’t noticed this presence at all so you’re going to need to lead, Kiran. Do you think you can handle this?”

Was that really a question he wanted to answer? He wasn't even sure of the answer. Kiran only had a slight idea of what this thing was, and even still, it was shifty enough to keep to the shadows. It could attack at any moment! He had to tell her, he really did NOT have a handle on th-

“Actually, don’t answer. Just get ready.”

Well so much for that.

He pressed the button on Gina's Pokeball- and out came a small, purple skinned creature. It hardly stood over a foot- but physical strength did not matter much to this Pokemon. Mental Fortitude was all that mattered. And it's move pool, which was surprisingly versatile...to Kiran at least. He recalled what his father had told him.

"This Pokemon has been bred with special care. It is aware of a few moves inherited from it's father- Dark Pulse and Heal Pulse. I trust you will use these tools to an advantage."

The blue eyes of the Gothita watched with intent. She could feel the presence in the shadows. "Gina," Kiran spoke. "You feel it, don't you? I need you to draw it out with a Confusion. We can nail it with some stronger attacks after that."

He looked to Eleanor again- who still wore the Swablu, and had been joined by a leafy green Pokemon- Petilil, if Kiran remembered correctly. And then he looked towards the shadows, locking eyes with a singular pink gazer. "Now!" He told his Gothita, who's eyes flashed blue for a moment.

The clearing was silent, and then it charged in. A Duskull was exposed. Oddly convenient? Yes. Was Kiran going to complain? Not unless he didn't manage to catch it. The Duskull did not seem to be especially strong or even that old...It opened with an Astonish move, which was a pretty pathetic attack. It had a good chance of making a not so observant Pokemon flinch though. Luckily, Gina was not spooked so easily, though injured quite easily. She overcame the brief pain countered back with another Confusion - Not all Pokemon needed to be told what to do, after all - and was told what to do next. "Now, nail it! Dark Pulse!"

There's was almost annoyed sigh by the Gothita. She didn't like him all that much...but she couldn't dislike him either. Because he was her trainer- what else would she get to otherwise? She'd rather listen to some awkward man tell her commands than rot in the barn she was born. So Gina did as she was told- nailed the Duskull with a Dark Pulse.

The Duskull was on it's last legs and very obviously outmatched. Even if it took out Gina somehow, Eleanor could finish it off still with her Petilil. Kiran found this might be a good time to toss a Pokeball- which caught the little ghoul in a red light. And with three shakes and a click, Kiran had a new partner.

"Huh. That was...sort of easy. I guess that little guy was planning on stalking us down later. Sorry about that...Overreaction." Kiran hadn't really anticipated it being this simple. Perhaps Pokemon training wouldn't be so bad after all, if catching them was this easy. He walked over and picked up his new catch. "I suppose I did end up getting what I wanted...Oh! I suppose you should meet my Gothita. I call her Gina."

Even after dealing with the Duskull, Kiran...still couldn't shake the feeling of being watched. Maybe it was Gina, since many people mentioned Gothita have a habit of 'staring into your soul', but Kiran wasn't risking it again. "So uh, let's keep going I suppose. The sun is setting fast..."

There was a question in Peter's mind:

Why are we attacking the seismitoad?

If Peter remembered things correctly, the houndooms is the one that attacked them first.

Is there something I missed? Something I don't aware of? Think Peter, think.

Peter was deep in thought when a roar of pain escaped the seismitoad mouth. The combined attacks of houndoom pack and trainers seems to hurt it. Burnt and battered, it looked around then crossed its arms and start charging forward, sending soil, rocks and tree roots flying in all direction. It used bulldoze! But instead of using it to attack, it used the momentum to force an escape route and broke through layers of houndours. The few houndours caught on its route got sent flying and hit nearby trees. Before the seismitoad vanished deeper into the forest, it threw a sharp glance at the trainers.

Seems the trainers just got marked as enemies.

It didn’t take Eleanor too long to realize that she was merely an unneeded accessory in this little skirmish. The Duskull in question was hardly some overwhelming threat that needed more than one person wearing it down.

As she watched Kiran issue the final command, she relaxed herself out of her defensive stance and began to pet each of the Pokemon sitting on her body on their heads.

And with the toss of his Pokeball, the confrontation came to an end. The Duskull was now safely contained within the red and white capsule Kiran had tossed.

"Huh. That was...sort of easy. I guess that little guy was planning on stalking us down later. Sorry about that...Overreaction."

“Don’t worry about it. You had it covered, so have a little faith in yourself, alright?” With a smile and a wink, she gave him that last vote of confidence before he started to introduce his partner.

"I suppose I did end up getting what I wanted...Oh! I suppose you should meet my Gothita. I call her Gina."

“Well, it’s only fair that I introduce you to Lilith here, then.” She said, pointing with her thumb at the grass type who was nestled on her shoulder. “Say hi, Lilith.” As Lilith waved its arm-like bud around, Eleanor picked the Pokeball she had pulled out before and held it to the Swablu’s face.

Without much hesitation, the Swablu pecked at the trigger, which opened it up and sucked it in. After the three shakes and a click that every successful capture consisted of, Eleanor opened up the Pokeball and let the little bird nestle on her head again.

“And this little one is Altair.”

"So uh, let's keep going I suppose. The sun is setting fast..."

“In that case, let’s find a place to set up camp and then search for Sven, Matt, and Myrna. Safety in numbers, after all. We’re not going to make any headway past a certain point. Trying to traverse the forest at night or set up camp when it gets too dark would be a too risky so it’s better to set up a home base and rest up so we can get up and through the forest as quickly as possible.”

Oblivious to the large-scale battles raging a few hundred metres from her, Val continued her night stroll, slinging her bag around one shoulder and feeling for her belongings. Anticipating long walks and cold nights, she had brought along a sleeping bag and her Sinnoh attire, of course - the temperature here had nothing against a good Sinnoh winter! - and was contemplating retreating further inside the woods and calling it a night. Mal had scared away more than one ghost with a show of his fangs, and for the more stubborn ones, with a taste of them. He was growing more confident in his power against the local wildlife, and was currently smugly chewing on a roadside marble, chipping it off with each chomp.

A flit at the periphery of her vision confirmed the uneasy feeling that had crept into the girl's heart for a while now. Stepping past the range of the latest lamp, she whirled and got a solid view of a flashing shadow. "Mal," She called, even as the Larvitar turned and gripped the pebble tightly. Like a wraith out of the dark, something descended, with wings awhirl and, by the sounds of its screech, lungs asunder. Malachite was quick to react, flinging the marble forcefully at the interloper, and the persistent stalker swerved to avoid the projectile.

"What in Arceus' name-" Even as Val stepped aside to let the shroud of darkness better cover her, a hard brush of leathery...something against her face had her preemptively panic and step backwards straight into a bush. Wildly waving her hands to ward off her assailant, she called loudly for the Larvitar as she fell, making a perfect ruckus. Malachite growled, eyes smouldering, as waves of foreign aura swept over him. The foe so far had been quick and precise, and had been careful not to reveal itself. The Larvitar rippled with Dark-type energy as he saw a blur approach him. Timing himself, he lunged for the little pest- only to shockingly miss, and feel a glancing blow against his ribs. The thing had seemingly phased through him to strike from behind - a ghost? Mal half-smirked, landing and whirling to try again, preparing a second Bite attack. But the shadow was gone as quickly as it had appeared, evidently to go harass the hapless Valeriya.

It wasn't until Val felt the graze of teeth against the skin of her arm that she began to fear her very fast, very mysterious assailant. Swiping out with her arm, she felt her wrist connect against something, and the following screeches and wild thrashing greatly pleased her. Mal braced himself, as he heard the sounds cease to be replaced with a quick pat of wings. 'The heck-' The teenager whispered under her breath as she scrambled to her feet. "Night vision, not ghost type. Mal, careful." She called out a few quick instructions as she carefully paced to his side. The hardy little pokemon stayed tense, listening carefully to the forest sounds, accentuated only by Val's worried breathing. The blow had been tough, but didn't match up against his rock-hard skin. He glanced back to glimpse Val eyeing the developing bruise on his side before facing the front again. The world was silent again, with nary a trace of their silent assaulter.

"What..." Val frowned, glancing around warily. Together, she and Mal stepped into the circle of light, unnerved by the sudden and utter silence. The Larvitar scooped up a rock, carefully weighing it in his hands. As a reptile, he had certain perks - he abruptly whirled and flung the rock, to be met with a light whump - such as being sensitive to vibrational changes in his atmosphere. He'd likely lose that as he grew older and evolved, but for now, he revelled in his aim at the source of regular beats of air. Strolling over casually, yet not letting his guard down, he advanced with a swagger in his steps. Just as well that he didn't assume victory to be his; the fallen combatant lunged forward with a screech, following which Mal immediately snapped with his jaws. His small, sharp teeth closed around a leathery appendage, and with perhaps a little more force than necessary, hung on grimly as the perpetrator thrashed at the other end.

Larvitar weren't an inherently fast species, but their instincts and reaction speeds were top-notch. With all the precision of a coiled Arbok, Malachite had struck - and caught a Zubat! The miserable bat screeched unhappily as it sought valiantly for the freedom of the skies. "Poor thing. Let it go, Mal." Taking immediate pity on the small Bat pokemon, Val crouched to inspect the pokemon closer. Intimidated at being in such close quarters with a human - it hated those! - while held prisoner, the blind bat stilled, chirping softly in concern and fear. Mal growled through clenched teeth, shook his head once or twice to make a point, and flung the bat upwards, expecting to hear a pat of wings and away it'd go- except that it unceremoniously flopped to the ground a foot away from them, still screeching unhappily as it lay limp.

Murmuring in surprise, Valeriya shuffled closer, Mal's curiosity peaked as well. As the familiar shadows of its antagonists fell on the aggressive little bat, it set off on an angry tirade against the two of them in a symphony of high screeches and feeble flailing. "Ye, I think it's hurt." "Lar." The two agreed with an exchange of glances before peering back curiously at the angry little pokemon. Between the human and the feared Rock type, it didn't seem the Zubat was going anywhere - not that it could, with a crippled wing.

Moments later found the proud bat wrapped up in a furry towel and being carried away with pomp and splendour - to which it responded with the usual flow of ungrateful screeches and angry flaps. Only the good wing was being flapped, Val noted, although the bad wing was clearly not broken. The wing membrane was a little scratched up, and could take a day or two to heal, but till then, it'd be painful to fly on. Malachite was walking along sulkily, kicking away a pebble or two. "Can't be helped, Mal. I don't have pokeballs, and the Centre won't heal it without a pokeball." Her sentence was punctuated by an furious scream from the Zubat, to which Val nodded with a 'yes, yes' and a look of serene understanding. Mal kicked away another, bigger pebble, deciding to go bully the Gastly peering around the corner at them.

Their campsite consisted of a small clearing, a small fire and a small sleeping bag, for a small girl. And a small pokemon. And a small prisoner. The Zubat had quietened down after being put on the ground, adjusting the towel enough to hide from the fire's light. "It's true, what they say about Mirai's pokemon being stronger," Val spoke aloud as she poked the source of heat and light. "That Zubat seems fine, even after prolonged exposure to light." Mal snapped angrily, in disagreement, crushing the pebble in his hand to rubble, which he flung aside to stir up some embers. Not usually a vocal pokemon, he sufficed with shooting the Zubat with dirty glares, which the bat effortlessly soaked up - what with being, you know, blind.

Seeing the ruckus happening below them and the attention being brought away from them to a very large and intimidating Seismitoad, the duo both looked at each other, their brains on the same wavelength right now. They each wanted a Houndour. With as much grace as they had going up, they slid down like a Sneasel, hopping down from branch to branch. They eventually made it to the bottom, and their Pokemon escaped from their Poke Balls, looking to see the beaten and battered Seismitoad use an Earthquake. The part Flying-Type and levitating Ghost Pokemon weren't affected, but Pyros and Shade both had to steady themselves as the earth rocked them from below. Pyros couldn't maintain his balance as well as Shade, as he tumbled on all fours. They heard another howl, this time from behind. Reinforcements! A fresher pack of Houndour appeared behind Pyros and Shade, but they soon began to trip over their own paws when they got in range of the Earthquake. They even fell on each other trying to regain control and run away, but they ended up getting damaged from their fall and from the attack.

Seeing this as their opportunity, Shade pulled Pyros to his feet, and told Ghast to isolate two Houndours for them. Ghast did as she was told, turning into gas and enveloping the Houndours with the gaseous spiritual essence, causing them to hack and wheeze. The others tried biting at the gas, but without any success. The gas began to get sucked into the noses of the ones trying to free their pack members, and they were forced to run away, heading toward the larger pack and helping the members there, with a few stragglers left behind to help the remaining two Pokemon intended on being captured.

When the Seismitoad ran off using Bulldoze as a way to escape, the other Houndour that had come around chased off the Seismitoad and helped their fellow elder members. Fiaro had used Quick Attack to swoop on to the straggling Houndours, trying to get them to run. Ghast released her chokehold on the Houndours, who were regaining their breathing. Shade and Pyros both looked at each other, wondering if they should give them a chance to see if they should join them. Mirai is a tough region, but they still had to treat these Pokemon with respect. They both knelt down so they were now level with the two Houndours, who growled fiercely at them, yet still trying to regain their breathing. Shade and Pyros then went on all fours and bowed their heads. The Houndours were confused by this submissive posture taken by the humans. They looked at each other confused before one of them walked up to the two, growling menacingly at them, obviously not accustomed to humans learning the behaviors of their species.

Shade, trying to defuse the anger and tension between them both, apologized: "I'm so sorry for the damage we had done unto your pack and for hurting you. We had forgotten our manners and tried to capture you two without a second thought as to whether you both had actually wanted to."

At that point, the Houndour that was closing in lunged at her, mainly because he thought she was lying and that she tried looking up at him. He stopped when his head was next to hers, beady black eyes full of pain and anger stared right through Shade's own colorful orbs. Shade couldn't help but stare at him from the side, and they were both in a tense staring contest. Pyros saw this, and decided not to move too much. The Houndour was trying to make sure that Shade was actually telling the truth while being intimidating and these Pokemon weren't all bark.

After about a couple minutes, the Houndour smelled a scent on her. It was a faint scent, but a scent nonetheless. He smelled the pheromones from a very strong and capable Houndoom from another pack. She had seen her other Houndoom, nicknamed Doom, before she had left to Mirai, and his scent was still on her. Crap! She remembered when the Houndour growled menacingly, seeing her as an enemy. He was about to bite her ear, when she yelled: "Wait!"

The Houndour, in mid-bite, decided to show mercy and see what she had to say, which was: "Look, I'm sorry we hurt you. And this Houndoom you smell on me isn't here with me. He's somewhere else. Please! I... I beg of you... We only wanted to help our fellow humans. We're sorry for trespassing and for causing pain and we'll go." She then dared to look at the still displeased Houndour in the eyes, all of his teeth were bared and she could see spit drip from his lips. "I can help them recover. Just please."

The Houndour looked to the other one, a more submissive, yet still aggressive female. She looked at the male human, wondering what he had to say about the subject. Pyros just sighed and, while looking away, said: "She's right. We only came here to beat the league, and we didn't mean to do this kind of damage. We can help heal what we can. Shade, my sister, is very good at what she does, and has been healing Pokemon ever since she wanted to be a nurse. Please. We beg of you to spare us, while we help your pack."

The Houndours looked at each other, and as if they needed to verify with one another with their looks. The female then walked up to Pyros and bit his ear in a show that they've been trusted... For now. This was also a sign that they were submissive and will do as they wish. Pyros saw the same chip in her ear as he hissed in pain from the canine teeth boring down on his cartilaginous skin. The male Houndour did the same to Shade, who kept herself from grunting in pain. The male Houndour nudged her shoulder with his and walked back to the pack, who was regaining themselves. The female Houndour retreated to the male one, and Shade guessed they were siblings with how close they were. She looked back at Pyros, their ears bleeding from the notches and the mark given to signify that they're basically here to help, if not take orders like a slave to a bunch of Pokemon.

They slowly got up, not so sure if they should stand up or not. Shade and Pyros both returned their slightly concerned Pokemon, reassuring them in their confines that they were going to be alright. They then walked up to the battlefield, and man was it a sight.

The tree they were climbing had scorch marks and the bark was still covered in little embers, charring the outside. The large tree branch that had fallen, had landed on a couple of non-moving Houndooms, and the leader of the pack was growling and barking at the two Houndour who had marked the duo on their ears. The leader, the one with his horns raked back the most, glared at the duo. Pyros intended on wanting to maintain the staring contest for dominance, but Shade harshly pulled his arm down as they knelt down once again, to show the leader they were indeed submissive. The leader walked up to them, glaring at each and every one of them. He barked loudly into their ears, probably reprimanding them for such a heinous crime against their pack. He looked back toward the Houndour, and growled again. If the Houndour had told the leader about their little conversation, he was probably wanting to enforce that if they break their promise, they will die.

Pyros gulped while Shade nodded in agreement, saying: "We will do as you say." The Houndoom almost bit her other ear for talking to him, but stopped, a light growl was all Shade could hear, as she was filled with fear. She loved the Houndour line, but she had never been this close to death before. Pyros, too. The Houndoom nudged his head upward, as if he wanted them to stand up. He then went to the fallen tree branch and tried to force it off with the help of the other, yet weakened Houndoom. Pyros and Shade looked at each other once again before finally fully committing to their need for survival and the need for partners. They both positioned themselves in front of the tree branch, their arms extended on to the rough and charred bark that was drenched from the Seismitoad's Hydro Pump from earlier. They both then heaved when they felt the other Houndooms pushing, but even with the added strength of the duo, the tree hardly budged. This tree must've been at least hundreds of years old, since this tree branch was massive and gnarled. The Houndooms underneath were breathing, but shallowly. Some of them were pinned so forcefully against the ground that Shade guessed they had broken bones. Regardless, they pushed again, managed to roll it off of a few of them. There were only two Houndooms left to free. The Houndours dragged the unconscious Houndooms carefully, dragging them off to the others that were injured. The ones that had corroded body parts glared at Shade and Pyros, since they were the ones that had hurt them. They were going to be tougher to heal, as they won't let them get close that easily.

Shade noticed that there were other humans nearby. She raised her hand at them and lowered it, signaling them to stand down. She then asked the leader if it was alright if the humans over there could help push the branch. The leader looked over, judging the humans from afar. He then grunted. Shade wasn't so sure if that was a good or a bad sign, but he didn't seem to growl anymore. That was good. She signaled them with her hand to help push the branch over. She told the leader that she'll need to leave to find berries to heal his pack. He glared at her, not sure if he could trust her, so he barked, signaling the male Houndour from earlier. He told him to watch over her when she gets the berries. The other Houndour nodded and bowed before retreating back to make sure the injured were stable. Shade then told Pyros to not run off looking for her, since that would only anger the pack further. Pyros nodded, yet reluctantly. He didn't want to leave her, but at least there was something going to watch her, he just wasn't so sure whether to trust the damned dog or not.

With the abrupt end of the battle, the Seismitoad bulldozing its way out of the encirclement of Houndoom and Houndour, and the rather interesting behavior of the familiar duo, Claire was at a loss. On one hand, she was a bit relieved that the battle had ended in a favorable way - if this ending could even be considered favorable. Yet, the subtle sense of emptiness from an anti-climactic situation had her a bit...irked.

Amidst the remaining smoke fumes, tinged with the acrid smell of Houndoom's venom, and the general disaster scene Claire watched the peculiar scene of two humans performing a ritual of submission towards a pair of Houndour followed by a rather imposing Houndoom. Though certainly a spectacle for the eyes, the displays of submission seemed to have worked wonders- or at the very least- the Houndoom showed no desire to make up for its losses by finding new prey, namely the trainers. In fact, despite the remaining wariness towards their presence, the posse of Pokemon was far more concerned with freeing their follow packmates than spilling more blood. The pack working in tandem with the human pair to free a couple of distressed Houndoom pinned beneath a rather large tree branch. Claire had thought to suggest that by capturing the trapped Houndoom, they could then release them at another, safer location, but she quickly thought better of it. If the alpha Houndoom saw her make an attempt at capturing members of its pack she imagined the resulting scenario wouldn't be in her favor. The mere thought made her shudder, getting maimed and/or killed wasn't really on her Mirai Region to-do list.

Unwilling to possibly provoke the pack with any reckless moves, and similarly unwilling to give up on the only humans she'd met since entering the forest, she simply stood there rather awkwardly. Once again at a loss, the silver-haired maiden exchanged a glance with her fleeced partner who seemed more than a little uncomfortable around the predatory Pokemon. At that moment Claire noticed that one of the two from before, the one which appeared to be female, was clearly signaling for assistance. Since she had no real reason to deny, and it would also serve to express her goodwill towards the pack, Claire shimmied her way over to the fallen branch to assist, with Chysa rather nervously trotting at her feet.

Before Jezebel could give further orders, the Houndoom that had been facing her ran to help the ones pinned by a branch. Struggling to her feet, she couldn't help but hold her left shoulder. It still hurt from the fall but she couldn't let that slow here down. The only reason a pack would be out in so many numbers would be to hunt. They may be focusing on the wounded now but they would still need food.

Prince couldn't help but agree as he held her shoulder shoulders and tried to move her away. "Growlithe, Felix, come on. We have to go; they'll still want dinner," she told them. Growlithe couldn't help but stare at the girl. She hasn't put her back in that tiny ball? Why Not? Couldn't she see that she could run away without a second thought?

Still, she didn't know these woods or what direction the city she's from was in. It didnt help that the flames were drowning out other scents nearby; now she could track the way they had come! It may behoove her to stay with the human for now. Just until they got to the next city...

Why the heck did we became slaves to the houndooms?!

Peter wanted to screams when he saw some trainers helping the pinned houndour. He was so sure if the trainer banded together they can at least escape from these wounded pack. If this keeps going, he was sure they will just became another preys. He scanned the surrounding, looking for any escape route. There it is!!

Peter approached a houndour that was pinned under a tree, but he purposefully choose the one that was the farthest from the leader. There's only one other houndour that was trying to free it. Peter faked a pushing attempt while scanning for possible observer and another treat such as the dusk trio.

Felix watched as a young woman stepped forward revealing herself and commanded her Mareep to use Electric Terrain. But the boy was disoriented, as the Seismitoad was quickly defeated, and chaos ensured, with the Houndour pack was quick to address their wounds. Multiple people who had taken part had taken their time to help the pack, with many of the Dark and Fire Pokemon, annoyed and unwanting of their help.

As people began to help, Felix steady regained his composure, and made his way towards a two Houndours, with one under a tree limb and the other trying to help, but failing poorly. Felix watched as one boy pretended to help, but decided to use it as an excuse to escape. Coward. Felix watched as the Houndour that was free began to give a short whine towards the boy leaving. However Felix was there first. He pressed his palms on the log, but before he could apply pressure to move it, the Houndour under the log growled, baring his teeth. Volt, who was now beside his trainer, growled at the trapped Pokemon, relaying that Felix was here to help. The other Houndour was quiet with it's ears down low. With a grunt, Felix began to move the log trapping it.

Feeling the support of another person and a little frightened Mareep, Shade and Pyros began to push again with the new aide. When everyone pushed, the tree branch rolled off of the remaining Houndoom, and they soon got dragged by the underlings of the pack to the spot of the wounded. Pyros stretched out his muscles afterwards, since they'll be slightly sore, while Shade simply looked at the leader, who gave her a head motion to leave and get berries. He barked for the male Houndour from earlier to keep an eye on her, and he obediently bounded towards her. Pyros and Shade then both thanked the human before departing for their duties, their ears having stopped bleeding but now a mass of dried blood sat atop their left ears. A notch of loyalty and submission. Shade didn't much care for it, but Pyros thought it either looked cool, but didn't like it's meaning.

Pyros waved farewell as he retreated to the wounded, and with the help of the female Houndour from earlier, tried their best to make their rest comfortable. Some Houndour have gathered sticks for the humans and put them into a sizeable pile. They then blew embers onto the bonfire and it was aflame with a gorgeous hue of red and orange. These Houndour were apparently grateful for the human's help, but the leader practically scoffed at the show of gratitude from his less experienced pack members. Why would they do that? These humans weren't done paying for their sins just yet!

While Shade left the group with the Houndour in tow, the leader rushed off to another broken branch on some poor Houndour, and helped the young boy with the Shinx push the branch off of his underling. He growled at the Shinx and the boy, warning him that any funny business will not be tolerated on his watch. He then dragged the body away, all the while the retreating figure of a human disappearing from view. At least he found some helpful humans. He scoffed at the coward and thought about how different these humans were. Man, these strange beings were weird. He guessed they all were quite different from one another, coming from all shapes, sizes, behaviors, and personalities, and were far different than the humans he'd seen the most, which were practically natives or humans who were stuck here from losing three gym battles. He guessed that humans were as about as versatile in personality like his pack members. It was interesting to say the least, but now he focused on getting his pack back into shape.

He dragged the hurt Houndour to the spot of wounded, and noticed that the flaming red-head was tending to a particularly young one, with the same female Houndour trying to help him understand each and every one's needs and preferences. He almost glared at the female, when he noticed that the man had stopped the bleeding from one of the Houndours. He was confused as to whether these humans were telling the truth or not, since he came from a trainer with all kinds of broken hopes and discarded promises. Maybe these were different.

Regardless, he growled at them to be careful and looked around the scarred and charred battlefield, looking for more of his pack members that were either wounded or otherwise.

Meanwhile, Shade was bounding through the thick bundles of trees and shrubbery with the male Houndour bounding close behind. This forest was quite easy to get lost in and the trees all looked the same. Plus, there were hardly any healing herbs or berries in this forest. She got lucky when she found several Pecha Berries hanging loosely off of a low bush, nearly dodging the swipe of a claw wanting to grab them off, too. A Sneasel, angered by its food running out, jumped out to attack Shade, but the Houndour was faster to react. He jumped in front of the attack and blew a forceful shot of Flamethrower, burning the Sharp Claw Pokemon. The Pokemon got burned as well, and it ran off, screeching and bounding from tree to tree. No doubt that it will be back with reinforcements. Shade thanked the Houndour, but he shrugged off the thanks and ran off deeper into the forest, with Shade trailing behind.

After about 15 minutes of searching, they finally hit the mother load: A whole pile full of berries and herbs. No doubt a Pokemon had these for their own personal use. In a flash of red light, Ghast appeared from her Poke Ball. The Houndour growled at her, but stood down, as they were working together and he wanted his pack better. Ghast turned into gas and floated toward the berry pile, while both Shade and the Houndour ducked down into a bush and waited patiently for the Pokemon to arrive.

What came was the injured Seismitoad from before. Well then. He went to grab for a Sitrus Berry from his pile when Ghast struck with Hypnosis, sending off delta waves to the Pokemon. The Seismitoad resisted for a moment, thrashing at the invisible, gaseous attacker, but to no avail. Ghast reappeared as herself floating above the berry pile, and used Shadow Ball, spewing the ethereal sphere toward the already badly damaged and burned Pokemon. Seismitoad simply hit the sphere back with its arm and it went straight toward Ghast. She dove down toward the berry pile, snatched a few berries in her teeth and floated off toward the treetops, using the wind that wound through the branches to her advantage as she was pushed further away. The enraged Seismitoad took chase, not thinking that the Pokemon was merely used for distraction purposes.

When the Seismitoad's booming footsteps were getting quieter and quieter with each second, Shade and the Houndour headed off toward the berry pile. She stuffed as many berries and herbs she could in her backpack, and pulled out another satchel so the Houndour could carry his load. He growled warily at the foreign sack and he nearly snipped it out of her hand. She then told him that it was going to be a little rough, but it would help carry everything. He kept refusing it, so she sighed and started stuffing healing herbs and a variety of berries into the sack.

When they were done collecting everything, Ghast came back. Shade quickly closed the sack and that's when the Houndour took it from her hands, holding on to it with his teeth while running the opposite direction. Shade returned Ghast and caught the falling berries that she was holding and chased after the Houndour, trying her best to catch up and to hopefully not attract the attention of the Seismitoad. Seeing that his stash had been stolen from, and that he was tricked, he roared angrily, took a few berries and ate them, and walked around the forest, searching for the Gastly, and for any other creature to pummel.

After running non-stop for several minutes, they finally made it, with Pyros and the female Houndour and their leader calming down and reducing the pain as much as they could to the injured pack. Shade rushed over, dropped her backpack with the Houndour dropping her satchel, and she emptied out the contents of both. The berries and herbs tumbled out of the bags and the Houndoom licked their lips hungrily at the berries. She held up her finger to tell them to wait, and she had the male Houndour help in tearing a root off of a tree. Once that was pulled off, she had Fiaro pop out of his Poke Ball and used his Peck and Quick Attack to damage the wood enough to be snapped in half to form a pestle. She rounded it off with a nearby rock, and then began to gouge into the root with all her strength. After about several minutes of boring into the wood, she made an acceptable mortar. She had the Houndour burn the wood slightly with a weaker version of Flamethrower, causing the wood to dry up. She then packed the outside of the wood with mud and damp soil from the fight beforehand, making the bowl a little harder.

After about 10 minutes creating the mortar and pestle, she put the Pecha, Sitrus, and Oran Berries into the bowl. She then began to smash them into juicy bits with the pestle, grinding them into a little soup or concoction. She then took some Revival Herbs and Energy Roots, and ground them into the soup. Now, it should taste bitter, sweet, and dry. She took a small sip to taste it and it wasn't half bad. She gave each injured pack member a few large laps of the strange concoction until it was all gone. She then took the Heal Powder and put it in the bowl, and then added in Oran Berries and Sitrus Berries, as well as adding in the juice from a Pecha Berries. She discarded the berries into the crowd of injured Pokemon, who then snapped it up with haste. They even began to bicker with one another with low growls, but quickly shut up when the leader came back around.

When Shade was just finished with the strange paste that was tinted green, the leader sniffed the concoction and growled at it. She told him that this wasn't for eating, and that she was going to be applying it to the wounds. He stopped growling but gave her a warning look before she started applying it to the most injured. The Pecha juice helped neutralize the corrosion from the Venoshock and Toxic, while it also made the consistency of the paste a little smooth and cold. The other berries were just there to heal the wounds, while the Heal Powder was there to do the job of the Pecha Juice, but to get rid of more status conditions.

She began to apply the paste, and the Houndooms and Houndours who were injured the most and knocked out, growled a little in their sleep. As she finished with them, she then went on to the less and less injured, being careful not to stare at them directly in the eyes while she helped heal them. Some of them were quite docile and didn't even both looking at her, while others almost trying biting her hand off. Nonetheless, she tried her very best, going very slow and steady and also kept herself from giving them a challenging glare on accident.

After about 20 minutes of applying the paste, she sat back down at her original spot, and sighed, happy with her work thus far. The leader gave her an approving glance before he asked each and every one of his members to see how they feel. If she did a terrible job, she and her brother wouldn't last to see the morning light.

While they waited for the leader to finish, Shade rested her head on her brother's shoulder, apparently very tired from running and from working non-stop. She used all of the paste, so she just put the mortar and pestle back in her bag for use later. Pyros wrapped a protective arm around her shoulders while Fiaro returned to his Poke Ball after watching the entire thing from his perch on a nearby tree branch.

After a while, Myrna lost Matt and Sven in the fog. It was hard to keep a balance between keeping up with the two, and staying away, but still. She didn't think she would lose them that quick! Did they decide to take her bag and Sandile, leaving her out for dead in the forest, with no protection. No, they wouldn't do that... would they? Her dance began to slow down, her doubts and exhaustion starting seemingly weakening her more quickly than they usually would. Meanwhile, the Phantump around her grew more vigorous in their dancing, parading around her like she was their mother or something. Some more walking in the vague direction that she thought the boys went, and Myrna felt like she could pass out any second.

And then, she was falling.

Myrna hit the ground with a large 'oof', the side she landed on instantly flooded with pain. Her mind went blank for a short moment, then she opened up her eyes as if waking from a dream. Above her, was a cut-out circle of a sunset sky, surrounded by darkness- wait no, rock? As her eyes slowly came into focus, brain trying its best to keep up, she recognized the shape of the ghosts floating above her, looking around in complete confusion. Only one floated down into the hole with her, while the rest stayed looking around in complete confusion. Myrna tasted a tang of blood in her mouth, having bit her tongue when she fell.

While her right shoulder still throbbed, the fall definitely woke her up, or at least enough to remember to stay quiet until the rest of the Phantump flew out of view. They didn't seem to hear the Phantump that was in the hole next to her's cries. That Phantump, which was notably smaller than the rest, probably the runt of the litter, flew up out of the hole, looking around and calling for its friends, but none of them came. Meanwhile, Myrna made her way back to her feet, trying to climb up the side of the whole. What idiot dug a whole in the middle of the forest anyways? I mean, it helped her, but still!

Alright, she had to give it the twins. She had been impressed. Claire watched with intrigue as the sister of the pair ground berries into salves and pastes. It wasn't a skill she was expecting to see, apothecaries weren't exactly commonplace among trainers. She could respect people like that, those who had the resourcefulness and the skills necessary to make themselves a crucial member of any team. But, maybe she was jumping the gun. 'Team' was a strong word, in fact, considering this was the Mirai region any word that carried even the slightest connotation of friendliness and camaraderie would seem horribly misplaced when spoken on its lands. The citizens of Mirai were all shrewd, wily Merchants who seemed more inclined to mutual benefit that outright friendship. Though...this was hardly the time or the place to be criticizing others when she herself wasn't quite out of the woods yet, both figuratively and literally. She would digress, there were more important things to be pondered like, for example, did they have any more of that healing paste? The Sewaddle she had captured could surely use a dose of such a medicine to aid its recovery.

With the sun melding over the horizon, and night rapidly approaching the forest would take on a new set of dangers. Nocturnal predators and shelter were probably the most pressing matters. She didn't quite expect the Houndoom pack to do something like guard them while they slept, she'd actually like to have put some distance between herself and the hounds before she met up with the Sandman. Staring at the other trainers she spoke,"You don't intend to sleep here, do you?" For a brief moment her voice filled the clearing, she posed the question to all of them and awaited an answer from any of them.
