Three Months Later...

Fraser eagerly gazed ahead from the end of the SS Anne at the gracious land of Kanto. He could he feel the electricity in his bones charging up in excitement not being able to standstill. He started pacing back and forth in anticipation to what possible starter Pokemon he is going to get. This is it, this is going to be the start of his Pokemon Journey and become the greatest trainer in the world... hopefully

The SS Anne docks at Vermillion City and Fraser doesn't waste any time getting on the first bus to Pallet Town. The bus arrived at Pallet Town and Fraser swiftly exited the mode of transport and impatiently scanned the area. He checked the address on the email and looked around for signs. A sign in the shape of an arrow pointed in a direction and was labelled "Pokemon Laboratory"

A gleaming smile sprouted on Fraser's face at the almighty glowing sign and sprinted in the direction of the sign. Fraser turned the corner and saw a group of people queueing up in front of Professor Oak's Lab. He joined the queue and entered the lab and the group was herded to a hall that had a podium at the end. There were rows of chairs facing the podium and everyone started to take a seat.

Fraser sat down next to a couple of people and his leg couldn't stop fidgeting and bouncing. Sitting still is probably the hardest thing he could do right now and I'm sure a lot of trainers in the hall felt the same way.

After a while, Professor Oak walked on to the podium and the hall went silent.

"Hello, everyone. Welcome to Pallet Town and welcome to Kanto to those from foreign regions. Today is the day that you get your partner Pokemon, become Pokemon Trainers and set out on your journey. We will call out your names one by one and we will give you your custom Pokedex, certificate of acceptance to the Indigo League challenge and your starter Pokemon." Professor Oak announced.

"I can't believe this is happening," Fraser said to himself, his leg becoming more fidgety.

On the bow of the S.S. Anne, Mark gazed over at Kanto with his hands in his pockets, already eager to start his Pokemon adventure. Although he enjoyed the peaceful and scenic trip across the open waters, he was definitely eager to get off the boat and go straight for the lab to get a Pokemon. Mark always considered himself good with Pokemon because of how well he got along with his family's Pokemon back in Galar as well as some of the Pokemon he met back when he was in school.

When the boat finally docked, Mark immediately walked off and took a big sniff of the air to enjoy what he called that 'New Region smell.' He went over to the bus stop to take the first bus he could get to Pallet Town and decided to look at his phone while he waited to arrive. When the bus finally did arrive, he immediately grabbed his bag and got off to join several other people who all seemed to have the same plan if not something else at Professor Oak's lab.

When everyone was directed to sit down in some nearby chairs, Mark wasted no time in doing so and preferred to sit near the edge of the rows. While he could hear the excitement if the voices of a few trainers, Mark himself showed no sign of impatience... apart from the rapid tapping that came from his foot while he kept his hands in the pockets of his jacket.

AJ had hardly believed it when he received his letter from the Professor Oak inviting him to go on a pokémon journey in the Kanto region. In fact, now, three months after the fact, he still couldn’t quite believe it and he had just checked the letter last night to make sure that it was not some kind of clever forgery or figment of his imagination. But it was the real deal, or at least real enough that his father had taken him out to a fancy dinner and offered to send him to Pallet Town and Oak’s Pokémon lab in-style on a direct flight from Rustburo, first class. He had waved all of that of, of course. He didn’t want to make a bad first impression by showing off like that right away. Besides, the whole point of a pokémon journey was to experience some kind of hardship and struggle and all of that, right? So instead, AJ had managed to convince his father to let him take advantage of the discounted rate for a ticket on the S.S. Anne offered as part of the acceptance to Professor Oak’s program.

He hadn’t left right away though. Instead he had spent two weeks packing and repacking. Everyone that he talked to had advice for him on what he should do on his journey, what sights he should see, and which pokémon he should pick. It had all been a lot to deal with, but fortunately AJ had been able to deflect any comments on the last topic. “It’s not up to me what pokémon I get,” he had told his circle of friends one day, “the professor chooses one for me based on the answers I gave for his little personality test.”

“Isn’t that kind of scary?” one of them had asked.

“Maybe, but I think it’s kind of exciting!”

One of his teammates had started snickering into his hand just then and had said, “Too bad you’ve always been a terrible test-taker, AJ! You’re going to end up with a magikarp for sure!” That had taken the bloom off of the rose a bit for him.

But it was easy to forget all of that now. Here he was, sitting near the front row in a high-ceilinged hall in Professor Oak’s lab with others his age. The place was so much bigger than AJ had imagined it, certainly bigger than his own region’s pokémon laboratory. Almost everyone else seated on the simple plastic chairs looked as nervous as he felt, but AJ did his best to smile reassuringly at anyone who caught his eye. Even if his own stomach was doing back flips, that didn’t mean that he couldn’t try and ease the minds of other new trainers.

Professor Oak ran through a very short and simple speech that covered all of the basics: Pokédex, League challenge certificate, and starter pokémon. “Anything but magikarp,” AJ whispered under his breath and then played dumb when the boy seated next to him gave him a curious look.

"We will now start calling out names," Professor Oak said before nodding at his Aide to start reading the list. "First up, Fraser McLeod," The Aide called out.

Fraser glanced around for a second forgetting his own name. He gulped and stood up then walked over to the Podium and up the stairs. Fraser took a deep breath exhaled as he looked at Professor Oak. One of the famous Pokemon Researchers in the world. Professor Oak reached out his hand and I shook it.

"Congratulations Fraser. I wish you the best of luck to you and your partner on your journey," He said smiling as he handed me a black Pokedex, a badge case with the certificate for Indigo League challenge inside. Then he finally handed me a Pokeball. I froze and stared at it for a moment. I then carefully accepted the Pokeball and embraced its glory in my grasp.

"Congratulations, how about you show off what Pokemon you received," Professor Oak suggested. Fraser looked at him in still in awe. he looked down at the Pokeball and felt a sense of power course through his body. He could feel the Pokemon inside desperate to come out and meet its new trainer. Fraser threw his Pokeball high in the and a beam of light emerged from the Pokeball and landed in front of Fraser.

The light faded and a pale purple Pokemon with brown hips and feet to resemble shorts and shoes. It also had three protrusions on the top of its head. The Pokemon looked at me with a fiery and determined gaze and smirked.

"Fraser has been given Tyrogue!" The Aide announced to the hall and the trainers in the hall clapped. Fraser zoned out the rest of the hall and kneeled down to be on the same level as Tyrogue. Fraser held out his hand to greet Tyrogue.

"It's an honour to meet you Tyrogue. Let's become the greatest together," Fraser said. Tyrogue smiled and nodded before confidently shaking Fraser's hand.

"Okay, please can you return your Pokemon back into his Pokeball and return to your seat please," The Aide said to Fraser. Fraser took out the pokeball and returned the Tyrogue back inside. Fraser then stepped off the podium and sat down in his chair.
Fraser sat there with a smile ranging from cheek to cheek.

"Now the next person is____" The Aide called out.

OOC: @Sawk Account do a post up until you receive the Pokeball and I will reveal then what it is.
and everyone else can do their own post of receiving their Pokemon

Mark simply gave a slow clap as this 'Fraser' guy received what appeared to be the Fighting Type Pokemon, Tyrogue, before he knew it, he heard the Aide call out his name. "Now the next person is Mark Watts." Mark blinked in surprise at how soon he was to receive his own Pokemon, he got up and slowly made his way to the Professor, like the boy before, he shook the Professor's hand before the latter handed Mark a dull yellow Pokedex and Poke ball.

Mark inhaled and exhaled before he took the Podedex and Poke ball from Professor Oak and threw the latter upward, the spherical capsule opened to let out the Pokemon who's small figure was purple with a strange mark on it's forehead as well as a lighter shade of purple... diapers? "Mark has been given Toxel!" The Aide announced as everyone applauded like they did with Fraser before, Mark simply knelt down to look at his new Pokemon and pet it's head. "Hey there lil' guy, the name's Mark. You ready for us to become awesome friends and an even more awesome team?" Mark asked with a smile while Toxel briefly stood up on two feet and flexed for Mark who laughed lightly.

"Sweet." Mark said as he returned Toxel to his Poke ball and put it in his trouser pocket, immediately he moved back to his seat and patiently waited for the next individual to receive their would be travel partner.

It wasn’t a hundred percent clear to AJ what kind of system they were using for calling out names, but Professor Oak’s assistants doggedly worked their way through the list of names. There was a little more ceremony than he had been expecting and AJ was intrigued to see not just the pokémon that were being handed out but also the trainers receiving them. Even with such a large group there was still some painting with a broad brush as the young men and women summoned to the stage generally looked determined, with only a few of them betraying any kind of nerves. After the first two boys had gotten their tyrogue and toxel (two pokémon that AJ had never even heard of before today), the rest of the room seemed to understand the process well enough.

After a girl whose name he had already forgotten walked away with something called a “cubchoo”, the aide with the clipboard of names read aloud, “Aleksandros Janus, Jr.”

AJ rose to his feet and mechanically walked up the stairs on the side of the stage to meet Professor Oak. In spite of his outward appearance, he was nervous. Not that he had any reason to be. He was going to get his first pokémon, and, after all, no one had been disappointed by their choice yet.

Yet.

“Please, it’s just AJ, sir,” he said under his breath when he reached the older man.

“Well, AJ,” said Professor Oak in an equally hushed tone as he passed him a pokédex colored deep blue, a few other essentials, and a poké ball, “you be sure to thank your father for his generous contribution the next time that you talk to him.” Then, loud enough that the rest of the room could hear him, the pokémon professor said, “Congratulations, AJ! Enjoy your journey in Kanto! Now, why don’t you show off your new pokémon?”

With a grimace that he tried to play off as a sheepish grin, AJ lowered his thumb to the center of the poké ball and pressed the button. A beam of red light shot out and took shape on the stage in front of AJ and Professor Oak.

The beam of light crashed down on the podium and the light faded. It revealed a quadruple Pokemon with red-brown hair, brown eyes large pointy ears. Orange curls of hair on the top of the head and multiple orange tails with curled tips.

"Aj has been given Vulpix!" The Aide declared and the trainers respectively applauded.

Fraser was intrigued by the previous person's purple coloured pokemon. Toxel I think the name was. Fraser then noticed Mark sit in the row in front but closer to the end of the row. Fraser was so interested by the Toxel that he felt the need to ask about it.

"Hey, Mark was it? That Toxel looks pretty cool. I haven't seen that Pokemon before," Fraser said to Mark.

Mark watched as one man received the adorable Pokemon known as Vulpix, he liked Vulpix as it reminded him of the white Vulpix his family had at home. As he slow clapped for the individual who received his Pokemon, his eyes turned to someone within the crowd who called his name and appeared to praise his new Pokemon. "Thanks man, this Pokemon's actually from Galar. I'm excited to see what kind of Pokemon it evolved in to." He said with excitement, although he made sure to keep it down enough to not disturb everyone else who went to get their travel partners.

"Vulpix, huh?" said AJ as he admired his new pokemon in all of her orange-furred glory. She allowed him to scoop her up in his arms and the two of them, trainer and pokemon, went back to his seat as the auditorium clapped politely for them. What luck! AJ thought to himself as they descended the stage. I actually know what a vulpix is! The pokemon was an uncommon sight in his native Hoenn region, but he had still seen a few under the ownership of trainers passing through Rustburo City.

Back in his seat, AJ tuned out the name of the next new trainer being called up to meet Professor Oak in favor of examining his new pokemon. Her fur was incredibly rich and soft and she felt so warm to the touch. "Hi there, Vulpix," he said quietly to her. "My name's AJ, and I'm your trainer, alright?"

He wasn't sure what kind of answer he had been expecting to get, but the vulpix pointedly turned her head away from him and stuck her little black nose in the air with a indignant sniff.

When he moved to pet her back, the vulpix tensed up, but she resigned herself somewhat to AJ's touch when he began to scratch a spot behind her ear and the tuft of bright orange hair on top of her head. She gave a small yawn and lowered herself onto AJ's lap for a nap, her six tails curling around herself.

This is going to be interesting, AJ thought as he continued to pet his very first pokemon and turned his attention back to what was happening on the stage in front of him.

Alex was next to be called, and hurried his way to the podium where he accepted his stark-white Pokedex and the Pokeball of his starter Pokemon. Without hesitation, he tossed his Pokeball forward, and his starter Pokemon appeared in a burst of red light.

It was a tiny thing, barely taller than his shoes, that resembled a candle burning with a fierce orchid light. The small Pokemon smiled and waved its stubby little arms.
"Aleksi has been given Litwick!" the aide announced, and Alex broke into a grin.
"It's so cute!" he said. "I love it!"

He returned Litwick to its Pokeball and returned to his seat, brimming with excitement. This was it, he really was a Pokemon Trainer! And with such an adorable little starter too! He smiled.

Jason Argentston had said goodbye to his parents, his siblings and his girlfriend, before catching the flight from Rustboro to Pallet Town. As his flight landed, he made a phone call, and got directions to the lab. He ran towards the lab, and when he arrived, a person by the name of Alex had recieved their starter, a Litwick.

"Jason Argentston!" The aide called out.

Jason walked up to the podium and was greeted by Professor Oak.

"Jason," Professor Oak handed his essentials, amongst them, a pokedex, and a pokeball, "Go and open it."

A blue arm like creature appeared from the red and white sphere, it had a red eye in the ball at the end of the arm, and claws at the other end.

"Jason has been given Beldum!" The aide announced.

Jason returned Beldum, and waited to leave the lab until others had gotten done.

OOC: Let's move on since not many other people are on the RP rn

BIC: Fraser smiled and nodded in agreement. "I bet it'll become really strong...maybe. I don't really know to be honest," Fraser scoffed and sat back in his seat. Fraser then noticed the very adorable Vulpix being given on the podium.

All the other trainers one by one got their starter Pokemon one by one and after the final trainer got given their partner Pokemon.

"Okay everyone, this concludes the ceremony and from this point on, you are Pokemon trainers and your journey starts here," Professor Oak declared to the hall. All the trainers cheered and applauded Professor Oak.

"Now for what happens now. We have stalls set up outside so that you can help your self to food before heading off and you can also buy Pokeballs and potions too, which I would recommend. You can take this time to socialise with other trainers, get to know your new partner or you can leave straight away to the next route. This is your journey, so it's your call. I'll be around so if you want to ask me any questions at all don't hesitate to talk to me," Professor Oak explained. "If you're really feeling up to it, there's a battlefield near the stalls as well," Professor Oak then winked at the crowd before the trainers rose from their seats and exited the hall.

Fraser heard "help your self to food" and immediately knew what he was going to do. He rode the wave of people until he beached up at the stalls and gazed at the array of food from cake, noodles, pizza, pokemon food and more. Before Fraser dove, into the cuisine he realised this was the perfect time to hang out with his new partner.

Fraser threw the pokeball into the air and let Tyrogue out of the Pokeball. Tyrogue stood cross armed with a confident look. Fraser kneeled down and pulled out his Pokedex and scanned the Tyrogue.

"Tyrogue, the Scuffle Pokemon. To brush up on its fighting skills, it will challenge anyone. It has a very strong competitive spirit. It is always bursting with energy. To make itself stronger, it keeps on fighting even if it loses." The Pokedex said. It then also listed the moves that Tyrogue can use in battle.

"Hey, mate. Are you hungry?" Fraser asked as he got a small bowl of noodles.

"Ty," Tyrogue said as he flexed his arms before accepted the Pokemon sized portion of noodles. Fraser got a larger bowl and they both sat down a bit closer to the battlefield cross-legged. The two of them happily ate the noodles, just vibing.

OOC: If you want to talk to Prof Oak it's fine if you want to control him

Riley after returning home from working at the docks, she received a letter in the mail. It was from the famous Professor Oak of the Kanto Region. As she read the letter she wondered why after 4 years since she had any experience with Pokemon battling, she received a letter to take on the Indigo League. After consideration if she should take the opportunity, Riley talked with one of her close and only friends, Daniel, she started to fill out all the information and sent it to Oak. A few weeks later she packed up and headed to a helipad where a helicopter picked her up on the outer edges of Gateon.

Riley arrived at Saffron City as she got the next bus to Pallet Town. She looked around at all the nature and towns which all seemed clean and nice unlike her home region. Riley was skeptical of this whole event, but she wanted to get out and do something with her life for once so maybe this was it. She got off the bus with her suitcase and was astounded at how crowded the town seemed to be. The Pokemon Lab had a giant line outside it.

She would eventually be called up as she received a Joltik. It seemed very friendly and ecstatic which was a contrast to her stone cold personality. He hopped on Riley's shoulder happy as they headed out of the building. Her confusion on why she got a little bug based on the personality test she took three months back was cut off by the smell of food and sounds of battling. Riley felt like she needed to come up with a name for the little thing. As she pondered, she got some of the barbecue wings and got Joltik some food to eat as well.

The entire place was filled with new trainers and their Pokemon, most of them being eighteen and under. She headed to the battlegrounds as many trainers were already testing out their partner Pokemon's strength. Riley sat down on a bench right outside the boundaries of the field and Joltik hopping up and down on the bench excited by all the energy being flown around.

Jason walked out, passing a boy with a Tyrogue, with his Beldum. He then used the pokedex on Beldum.

'Beldum, the IRON BALL Pokemon, Beldum keeps itself floating by repelling the natural magnetic force of the earth, when it sleeps, it uses the claws on its rear to attach itself to the nearest cliff.'

Jason put the Pokedex away as he and the Iron Ball Pokemon went to get food, as they heard food. The two grabbed some pizza for Jason, and some iron bolts for Beldum. They sat towards the boundaries, as he received a text from Alyssa. He responded to the text. He looked worried, since it was not a normal text.

AJ got up with the rest of the new trainers and followed the crowd to the area outside. It was a bustle of activity with trainers eating and talking both with one another and with their new pokémon partners. He stocked up on some pokémon food and other supplies for his journey and then helped himself to a sandwich that he purchased at one of the food stalls. “This is actually pretty good,” he said to his vulpix in-between bites, “but it’s got nothing on the gyros back home, trust me. Maybe someday when we’re back in Hoenn you can try one. Actually, I’m not actually sure if you can eat, uh, people food.”

Although AJ was laughing good-naturedly, his pokémon had fixed him with a disdainful look and then started to walk towards the battle arena with her tails held high behind her. “Hey, wait up!” AJ called after her, but the vulpix pretended not to notice him and he had to rush after her. When he was side by side with her, AJ finally was able to ask, “What’s the deal with you? You want to battle?”

His vulpix just kept marching forward.

“But that’s crazy, I don’t even know what moves you know,” said AJ, “and besides, we just met, don’t you want to get to know me a little bit first before we rush into a battle?”

His pokémon stopped in her tracks and sat on her haunches, but not because her trainer’s words had gotten through to her, rather it was because they had arrived at the edge of the pokémon battling field. It was a vast dirt field with some grass and weeds poking through the brown surface. The field was large enough that it could host several pokémon battles simultaneously and AJ took in a zubat dueling with a fletchling in mid-air and a litleo and a shinx circling each other while their trainers egged them on.

AJ sat on a bench at the edge of the field and watched the clashing trainers and pokémon for a few minutes. He munched on his sandwich and kept an eye on his new pokémon with the other. She was sitting still save for her six tails thumping against the ground impatiently.

“Okay, fine,” said AJ exasperatedly as he wiped the crumbs and mayo off of his lips with a napkin, “we’ll find someone to battle, okay?” If vulpix was pleased at his decision, AJ couldn’t tell from her cold brown eyes, but her tails had stopped beating a steady rhythm into the ground, and that was something at least.

As Riley tried to think of a name more and more people started to sit and watch the matches going on, her Joltik ran jumped around extremely hyper and excited. "Joltik, ya good with the name Hyial?" Riley asked. Hyial ran around happily with his new name as he hopped up in her hair. "Well, I guess that works then." She sat there taking another bite of her wing and held it up above her head for Hyial to take some bites as they calmly shared the food together.

Riley yawned as she hadn't slept for over twenty-four hours. She looked around and slowly got up as she walked around seeing what else was going on. She noticed how the main part of Pallet Town wasn't that far away from the festivities which only made her wonder how the folks living in the usually quiet town are dealing with all the noise, especially as it seems this will go till midnight.

Mark watched as everyone was allowed to go outside for some food, so he joined in and was surprised to see the large amount of food options, Mark was about to grab and eat something, but then he remembered his new partner and immediately threw his ball upward, Toxel emerged and landed in Mark's arms, clearly happy to see him. "Hey Tox, what would you like to eat?" Mark asked as he lightly gestured to the food nearby, Toxel's mouth watered at the delicious food options and lightly pointed towards the burgers. "Burgers, huh? Good choice." Mark said as he walked up and got himself and his partner a burger, the latter immediately wolfed his burger which caused Mark to laugh lightly. "Is it good, lil' dude?" Mark asked while Toxel quickly nodded, Mark nodded back and sat on his knees, he set Tocel down while he began to eat his own burger.

"Hey, I was wondering, how do you like the name, Tox? It's Toxel for short and if I remember, your evolution also starts with Tox. Also, my full name is Markus, but everyone's used to calling me Mark." Mark explained while Toxel waved his arms in the air, one hand still held what was left of his burger. "I'll take that as a yes. Oh!" I almost forgot." Mark said as one hand got out his Poke dex and began to briefly scan Toxel who looked with curiosity.

"Toxel, the baby Pokemon. It stores poison in an internal poison sac and secretes that poison through its skin. It manipulates the chemical makeup of its poison to produce electricity. The voltage is weak, but it can cause a tingling paralysis. If you touch this Pokemon, a tingling sensation follows." The Poke dex explained, Mark simply blinked in surprise. "Note to self; be careful on how often I carry you..."

"Hey Tyrogue, what do you think of the name Blake. It's a cool name I think to match you," Fraser suggested. Despite Tyrogue being mostly preoccupied with the small bowl of noodles. Blake glanced up and nodded in agreement with his name and continued finishing his dish.
"Blake it is then. My name is Fraser," Fraser said. Fraser felt slightly awkward since he felt slightly intimidating at the alpha aura that Tyrogue protruded despite his small stature.

Blake finished his noodles with a slurp and immediately stood and walked over to the battlefield and started to limber up. We don't know Blake's experiences prior to being given to Fraser, so he either recognised the battlefield or just sensed that is where he's meant to be.

"Ty, Tyrogue," Blake grunted as he started to practice his punches and kicks as she shadowboxed. Quick punches and high clean kicks, I guess for the Tyrogue species it's in their blood to be fighters. Blake tensed and show off his muscles that seem to double in size as he tenses. He stood in the middle of the battlefield as if to say, who dares challenge me.

There was a boy who looked to be about AJ’s age talking with his pokémon near the field. He was one of the first trainers to get his pokémon from Professor Oak and AJ wracked his brain to try and remember his name and what kind of pokémon he had received. The former came easily enough, but the pokémon did not.

The athletic-looking pokémon warming up in the center of the huge battlefield. AJ could recognize from his own training regimens the intent behind each of the creature’s punches and kicks. It looked like an imposing opponent, and AJ hesitated to approach it. But his own pokémon seemed to be excited by the prospect of a challenging fight and bounded towards the muscular pokémon eagerly. She took a fighting stance of her own, crouching low on her front paws and fanning her tails out behind her.

“Hey, Vulpix!” AJ said. “Calm down!” His partner’s battle pose slackened and she looked behind her at AJ and growled softly in the back of her throat. “Hey, Fraser, right?” he called over to the other pokémon’s trainer. “Would you be alright having a pokémon battle? My new vulpix here really seems to want to fight your, ah, guy.” Sure enough, his vulpix turned back to her potential opponent and bared her teeth. Some small flames flickered between them as she gave a louder growl to try and intimidate him.

As soon as both Mark and Toxel were done with their burgers, the latter immediately turned to the Tyrogue and Vulpix with clear curiosity, he struggled a little bit to stand up on two feet before he practically waddled towards the pair and gave a chirp in greeting. Mark decided to follow his little partner and see how he interacted with the Pokemon, clearly it looked like the two wanted to battle, but it didn't seem to bother both Pokemon and trainer much.

Blake smiled confidently and adopted a fighting stance facing the fox Pokemon. Fraser noticed Blake's attention being diverted and looked to see a Vulpix and a trainer on the battlefield as well.

"Blimey, someone's challenging me already," Fraser gulped as the thought of losing his first battle was something he wanted to avoid for the time being. The initial denying of his request was going to Fraser's response but then Blake had a fiery look and was impatient to battle this Pokemon. The Pokedex wasn't kidding when it said Tyrogue will battle anyone and has a competitive spirit. I guess no isn't an answer right now. It'll be going against Tyrogue's nature to deny this battle.

"Yeah okay then. Let's do it," Fraser badly acting to be confident. He started to walk to the end of the battlefield. He then pointed his Pokedex at the Vulpix.

"Vulpix, a Fox Pokémon. Its six tails are extremely beautiful. As it evolves, it grows even more tails. Vulpix uses powerful flame attacks. Before evolving, Vulpix's six-part tail can become as hot as a fiery blaze." The Pokedex described.

"Those fire attacks seem dangerous. I will have to find a way to get close to attack as well as avoid those fire attacks that can do damage from a distance," Fraser pondered to himself as he tried to scrape and tactic he could but failed.

The Tyrogue didn't break eye contact with the Vuplix, ignoring the Toxel. Fraser admired the cute purple POkemon, giving him a second break at the distress he was experiencing, figuring out what the hell to do.

"I wonder if I would have been better of with a Pokemon that just wants to be friends, everyone, rather than want to fight anyone he sees," Fraser thought.

Fraser looked at the opposing trainer and took a deep breath.

"You ready?" Fraser yelled.

Mark noticed the eye contact between the Pokemon and could tell their trainers seemed to do the same. "You, Tox, you might wanna step away and give them some space, don't wanna get hurt in someone else's battle." Mark said as he knelt down and his Toxel immediately waddled back to him, Mark moved back a bit and decided to stay and watch the upcoming battle. His Toxel on the other hand tugged on his pants to get his attention and held it's arms up as if it wanted to be picked up, Mark shrugged and decided to put on some leather gloves before he picked up the Poison and Electric type.

"Don't always expect me to do nice things, pal. I don't want you to end up spoiled." Mark said with a slightly strict tone, but Toxel seemed more interested in the other Pokemon. Mark couldn't blame him as he too was psyched to see what happened.

As Riley was walking with Hyial on her head, she pulled out her Pokedex to check his entry.
Joltik: the attaching Pokemon. Since it can't generate its own electricity, it sticks onto large-bodied Pokémon and absorbs static electricity.

"So...you can't generate your own electricity and you're an electric type." Riley disappointingly said. She looked around at all the stalls set up and decided to pick up some Pokeballs and Potions and throw them in her suitcase. They walked around a little bit more until noticing a bigger crowd gathering up near the field where they left a few minutes prior. Hyial bit her hair wanting to go check out what was going on.

The two went over to the field and tossed away the barbecue wing's bone. There were two Pokemon standing off against each other, one being a very competitive Tyrogue and the other being a sassy Vulpix. Hyial was hopping up and down on her head. "Hyial, calm." Riley stated.

Professor Oak noticed the commotion over at the battlefield and took an educated guess at what was happening. He couldn't help but spectate alongside everyone else and stood between one trainer holding a Toxel and one with an excited Joltik on their head.

"It always intrigues me who will make it to the Indigo League, perhaps this is a glimpse of what to come," Professor Oak with an entertained smile as he awaited the battle to start. He glanced over at the trainer holding the Toxel and noticed the gloves to minimise risk that carrying the poison, electric may cause.

"That's a good idea, wearing gloves. You will undoubtedly grow a strong bond a lot quicker if you're able to hold them," Professor Oak said to Mark, making conversation.

"We're ready!" said AJ feeing anything but, and before the words had even left his mouth his vulpix launched herself at her opponent, all fire and fangs.

AJ scrambled for his pokedex, but he could already tell that his pokemon wasn't using any kind of attack that he was familiar with. She was just operating on sheer instinct and love of battle. He pulled the blue device out of his pocket, flipped it open, and pointed it at his vulpix.

"Vulpix, the Fox Pokemon-"

"Yeah, yeah," said AJ impatiently, "but what are her attacks?" The pokedex chimed and the screen presented him with a list of her attacks. "That's more like it! Alright, let's try and use a tail whip attack!"

His pokemon stopped snapping at her foe long enough to present her trainer with a withering glare, then she closed the distance between her and Fraser's pokemon and tried to close her jaws on one of the purple-skinned pokemon's limbs.

Riley and Hyial were watching the duel unfold with Riley's eyes being as dead cold as always. She turned her head to notice Professor Oak talking to another trainer. Riley wondered why Oak would summon her and many others here. Everyone is sixteen or older and she's twenty. Usually kids under fifteen go out for these journey's, not older teenagers and young adults. While Riley was stiff at the moment, Hyial hopped off her head and ran into the battlefield. She turned her head back to realize her Joltik just entered essentially a war zone as she then calmly walked over to the battlefield to pick him back up.

Blake quickly planted his foot down in preparation for his first move. Fraser froze and panicked at the sudden start. He struggled to remember Tyrogue's moves despite just reading them. Fraser then realised this isn't a ranged fire attack, Vulpix is throwing itself at Blake.

"Blake, use Fake Out!" Fraser splurted before he thought too much about it.

As Vulpix approached Blake, he quickly opened up his arms wide and then powerfully clapped in front of the fire type Pokemon that launches a wave of air towards the Pokemon often causing flinching.

Oak noticed a small Pokemon in the corner of his eye walk on to the battlefield but was calmly followed by their trainer.

"Careful dear, you don't want to get hurt. It seems that your Joltik is eager to join the battle," Professor Oak chuckled at the cute sight.

Her attack didn't connect. Instead AJ's vulpix had her assault suddenly interrupted by a powerful clap of her targets hands and the sudden noise and blast of air to her face cause her to yip in pain and surprise and break off her attempt. She shook her head to shake off the interruption and crouched in preparation for another attack.

This is nuts, AJ thought to himself, she's more like a wild pokemon than any battling pokemon that I've ever seen before! "Vulpix!" he shouted. "You have to back off! Give me some time to figure this out, please!"

But his pleas fell on deaf ears. His vulpix was still raring to go. She made as though she was going to spring at her foe, but instead of jumping into the air and attacking from below, she instead darted forward, low to the ground, and tried to nip at her opponent's legs with her teeth.

AJ watched her, his being impressed with his new pokemon's doggedness doing battle with his apprehension at how out of control she seemed. He nervously fingered her poke ball in his hand, ready to recall her the second that things looked like they were going too far. Though, as a new trainer, he couldn't be sure whether or not that rubicon had already been crossed.

Fraser didn't process the miscommunication between Vulpix and AJ. Fraser's lack of composure made him struggle to take in his surroundings and was tunnel vision on Tyrogue right now. Without hesitation, Vulpix went straight for Blake's leg and sunk her teeth into Blake's leg.

"Tyro!" Blake angrily grunted. The fighting type attempted to shake off the fox Pokemon but failed, clearly showing how much Vulpix sunk her teeth into Blake's flesh. Fraser quickly got anxious at the explicit pain that Tyrogue was dealing with.

"If there was something on me attacking, what would I do," Fraser frantically said to himself. He envisioned slapping his thigh and had an epiphany. "I hit it." Fraser thought. In hindsight it's incredibly obvious but the complete lack of composure that Fraser has clearly is making him struggle to make quick decisions.

"Use Mach Punch!" Fraser yelled confidently. Blake who was undoubtedly thinking at this moment "finally", cocked back his arm in which the closed fist proceeded to glow and with a high velocity, Tyrogue struck down on the Vulpix. With the attempt to get the fire type of his limb.

"Hyial!" yelled Riley in a cold and serious voice. "Come back here now..." Her presence was unsettling as the Joltik happily came back to Riley having no fear what so ever. She knelled down and had Hyial walk into her hands as she picked up him and put her back in her hair. She walked away to go find someplace quieter.

Away from all the commotion on the outer areas of party grounds, she took a slight stroll looking around at all the greenery. All her life, nature was scarce. Her homeland was one giant desert and her hometown, a seaport. She continued to wonder if this was all a trap. How could no one make it to the Indigo League in years? Normally there is always a big group of people for the yearly Indigo League tournament. Why would he want the older people to go out instead of the younger kids? It has been over 4 years since Riley graduated from the Trainer's School. Why would she receive a letter now, especially when she lived in a region that is normally cut off from the rest of the world.

In the area near Riley, a small whimpering could be heard nearby. A Zigzagoon limped towards a tree and leaned on it. The Zigzagoon lifted its saw paw and inspected the large thorn in the foot of the tiny raccoon Pokemon. The skinny normal type starts to get sleepy and slowly flicker their eyes as the Pokemon starts to feel weaker.

AJ was both thrilled and dismayed when his pokemon sunk her teeth into her foe's leg. Tyrogue, he remembered idly, that's what species it is. His vulpix seemed to have gotten a pretty good hold on Fraser's pokemon because she was not letting go, even after the tyrogue tried violently shaking her off.

Before he could figure out what to do next, the other trainer gave his command and, almost faster than AJ could see, the tyrogue landed a solid punch on his vulpix's back. His pokemon opened her mouth to cry out in pain, and that released the other pokemon from her jaws.

"Now will you listen to me?" AJ barked. His exasperation had finally gotten the better of his nerves and he was ready to give commanding his new pokemon a try. "Back up and use an ember attack, Vulpix!"

His vulpix chose to obey only the second half of her trainer's command. She stayed close to Fraser's tyrogue, Blake, and launched a stream of red-hot embers from her mouth at him. If she had been further away, the attack might have had more time to build up speed and power, but at this close range its strength came more from the surprise factor than from any real power behind the attack.

Mark smiled as the Professor complimented his choice in hand wear. "Thanks Professor, I just figured we wouldn't bond well if he constantly poisoned or paralyzed me. Besides, this lil' guy needs to be careful of his own strength too; not all of us are immune to what he may see as normal." Mark replied before he noticed a Joltik scuttle towards the battlefield only to be carried away by a young adult female. "That's adorable." Mark said bluntly before he watched her leave as Toxel flailed lightly and clapped it's hands, clearly entertained with the battle that transpired.

The stream of embers crackled on Tyrogue as it did the damage, Blake shielded his eyes with his arms in response. The quick ember may have not been as powerful as it could've been if it was from further away but it still undoubtedly was dealing damage.
"I need to attack quickly before ember does too much," Fraser thought. Tyrogue was taken too much damage and is probably close to fainting.

"Blake use Tackle!" Fraser demanded. Blake then squatted down to get the momentum and charged towards the Vulpix to slam his whole body into the Vulpix to hopefully launch the fire type back and stop the attack.

AJ couldn't believe his eyes. It looked like he might actually win his first pokemon battle, or at least his pokemon would win it for him. He didn't exactly feel like he was contributing very much to the impending victory.

His vulpix could sense it too, but she had to pause to recharge her internal reservoir of fire. Before she could continue her attack, Fraser gave his order and his tyrogue moved to stop her. With its hands still protecting its vulnerable eyes, the bigger pokemon slammed into the vulpix with a full-body tackle. She went flying backwards and crumpled to the ground in a heap. She growled and tried to get back up, but her legs were shaking from pain and exhaustion so much that her first attempt failed and she fell back to the ground.

When she was back up, she was snarling and getting ready to dive back into the fray. But before his vulpix could do so, AJ returned her bruised body to the inside of her poke ball in a flash of red light. "That's enough," he said breathlessly. To the poke ball, he said, "You were awesome, but you were going to get yourself killed if you kept pushing yourself like that."

Then, to Fraser and his tyrogue, AJ smiled and said, "Look, I might not know a lot, but I can tell when I'm beat. Congrats on your win, man, that's an awesome pokemon that you got there." He stepped forward to shake the other trainer's hand.

Riley's head turned to the sounds of footsteps. Down on the floor next to some of the trees was an injured Zigzagoon. She immediately ran over to the injured Pokemon and pulled out some anti-bacterial medicine and with her own pure strength, pulled out the thorn on the now unconscious Zigzagoon. She carefully tended to the little Pokemon and rushed him back over to the main festival grounds to hopefully find a medical professional.

Fraser felt the adrenaline pumping, this is thrilling. The urgency, intensity, it's euphoric. Tyrogue landed a clean Tackle attack and both Fraser and Blake anticipated the next attack. The Vulpix certainly took quite a bit of damage from the counter-attack. However, one more clean hit on Tyrogue would've taken him down. Fraser didn't notice the Vuplix's struggle to stand initially and had the fight or flight switched on right now. Blake stood heaving, damaged and covered in burns, but was standing nonetheless.

When Vulpix returned to its Pokeball, Fraser crashed down back to earth and didn't notice him holding his breath and deeply exhaled. The initial reaction wasn't sweet victory but guilt for hurting the Vulpix and forgetting to see it as a Pokemon but instead as an enemy. It's definitely something that will improve through experience... hopefully.

"Thanks man. Your Vulpix is pretty great too," Fraser responded finally feeling a bit positive from the win. Fraser walked over to Blake and crouched down. "Well done Blake, our first win together," Fraser smiled and held his hand for a high five. Instead, Blake lifted his fists and started to quickly punch the open hand like boxing pads. "Hey take it easy, you worked hard," Fraser said. Blake nodded and dropped his fatigued arms and lazily sat down.

"Tyrogue," said Blake. Professor Oak approached Fraser and then Aj holding potions and gave them to the trainers to heal the Pokemon.

"Here you are, these will help with the wounds but it's best to get them healed up at the lab just in case," Professor Oak said to the two of them.

When Riley pulled the thorn out of the Zigzagoon's foot, it yelped in pain and bead of blood trickled out of the small wound. A Lab Aide noticed Riley rushing back with a Pokemon in her arms with a concerned look on her face. Everyone else was still riled up by the battle and was distracted. The Lab Aide approached Riley.

"Is everything alright dear?" The woman lab aide asked softly.

AJ took the potion offered to him by Professor Oak and then made a beeline for the pokemon lab. He walked in through a wide set of double doors and nearly ran into a harried-looking woman in a lab coat.

"Another one?" she asked.

"Another what?" AJ asked in return.

She brushed a strand of black hair that had come out of her bun back and over her ear. "Another injured pokemon." When AJ nodded, she led him over to a set of three machines that were identical to those found inside of pokemon centers. "What the professor was thinking is beyond me," the assistant grumbled. "Having this many new pokemon trainers and letting them battle without the proper supervision and only three healing consoles is just bound to lead to disaster. We're only lucky that there hasn't been any serious injuries yet! Ah, looks like that one has just opened up."

AJ stepped past her and passed a girl carrying a chipper-looking Wooper. He set his vulpix's poke ball on the machine and watched it intently. It took a few minutes for the machine to do its work and AJ took that time to think about his pokemon and the battle that they had just had. Before his doubts could overwhelm him, the machine dinged and he retrieved his pokemon from it.

He released his vulpix and she looked around angrily with bristling fur and bared fangs only to realize that she was not being sent into battle again. At that realization she relaxed and looked up at AJ curiously.

"I'm sorry," he said. "We didn't win that one, but we're going to win our battles in the future. But first we have to start working together." His pokemon was pretending to ignore him now in favor of grooming herself with the back of her paw, but AJ could see that she was still watching him.

"You're strong," he continued, "really strong! And I think that we can make a great team. First off, I think that you need a name. How about 'Hera'?"

His vulpix briefly paused her self-care to consider it and then returned to her task without objecting to the name.

"Okay, Hera, then let's get going! We've got a journey to start!"

"Apologies, but this Zigzagoon is in trouble.." Riley replied. She gently handed the nurse the injured Pokemon. "There was a giant thorn in it's foot, I did my to clean up the wound but it needs more medical care." Hyial looked at the injured Pokemon with massive concern. Riley walked away with Hyial looking back at the nurse, as she started to head toward Route 1.

Jason had finished his food and told Beldum to float by him, in case he saw something. He then headed towards the edge of Pallet Town, with Beldum in tow. When he reached the edge, He and Beldum took a step out of Pallet town and onto Route 1. The two then moved out into route one, preparing for anything, like a battle or a wild pokemon.
