It had been 1 whole year since the war started, and to Azrael, it felt like 10. He was only 18, and he was in the Kalos Military defending his home country against people whom he was told were truly evil. He was fighting overseas in the war-torn northern Kanto, where Pewter City used to be.
“GET OUT OF THE TRENCH AND BATTLE THEM!!!” A commander Shouted at Azrael over the explosions of battle all around them.
Azrael slowly got up from the trench and look out across the remains of the large Kantonian City that had previously stood there. There were battles all over the place, and they weren’t regulated like Pokémon league battles, where there were two clear sides with even numbers of Pokémon, and your enemies stopped when your Pokémon fainted. There were dead Pokémon and people all over the place, and Azrael was not willing to have that happen to his friends. He sat back down in the trench and began to think about his life before the war again. This time, even the commander’s shouts of ‘what are you doing,’ and ‘get up and fight for your country’ could not rouse him from his thoughts. He knew that the ‘professors’ giving out Pokémon to every one and the gyms training them to be the best they could be was meant to prevent another war, but if anything, it had only made this one worse. Now both sides had well-trained armies of young kids and their Pokémon, and they had formed connections with their Pokémon, which didn’t help when they died. Azrael was not going to let that happen. No more Kalosian Pokémon were going to die if he could help it. He jumped out of the trench and ran for the battle sending out his Wartortle and having it slam into his enemies with aqua tail! Then he saw Lt. Surge and the veteran’s army of Kantonian soldiers come from across the field, and he heard the Commander order the retreat. He ran back to the camp in the mountains of Mt. Moon, alongside his allies, Hoennese, Sinnohese, Alolan, and Unovans alike. When he looked behind in shame, he saw the ruined field, where it appeared there never was a city, and the dead bodies. However, after 1 whole year of no real progress in the War (just back and forth), what stood out to him most was how evil the Kantonians and their allies, Johto, Fiore, Almia, Oblivia, and Sevii, must be, because they were celebrating over the dead bodies.
