Alrighty then. Figured, since everyone else is doing it, why not, let's pop an art thread on here too. While most of my art is available at my DeviantArt Page - Including colored stuff and older stuff, I figured I'll use this thread mainly to posts my own interpertations of various PokéMon species.

Note: These aren't your cute and marketable balloon animal critters here - these are my personal interpertations of how these things look like and work - some of them may be very different from how official sources portray them. So no comments like "WTF NAO LOL MAGMAR IS A DUCK!!1!!11". MY thread, MY rules. Capisce?

Here goes (some side-scrolling is required):

BreloomNeedsMoarLove.jpg

One of my favorite species, Breloom. I always saw them as vaguely dinosaur-like. They may have an irritating flying weakness, but they are a lethal species. The type-split did them a world of good, giving them the capability to finally use some grass-type moves well. They deserve more love, damnit.

LakeSpirits.jpg

The Sinnoh Lake Spirits - Uxie, Mesprit and Azelf. While I loathe these mews-with-funny-hats deeply, I figured I might as well try to give them a touch of Stel-ness to make them look a bit more tolerable. The result was beyond what I imagined. The damn things actually look like they could be convincing water fae. To the less mythologically-adverse of us, Fae-creatures are NOT always cute and graceful.

Vila_07.jpg

Another species I love, Absols. Highly attuned with the elements, these solitary hunters live in mountainous regions, only descending to lower ground when they sense an impending natural disaster that may threaten their habitat. For this reason, they are both worshipped and feared as harbingers of cataclysms.

Sihaya_07.jpg

Gardevoir. Because I love them to pieces. This particular one is a female, quite possibly summoning up a Magical Leaf attack. Spikes are on shoulders rather than chest because that's the way I like my specific Gardies.

Even if it only did get two Grass-typed physical moves.

Fae-creatures are NOT always cute and graceful.

Like those Cornish Pixies from "Harry Potter".

It actually looks better with the plates on its shoulders.

All Breloom really needs is Seed Bomb, as far as grass-type moves go. I personally like the idea of a Seed Bomb/Sky Uppercut (or Brick Break)/Headbutt/Sword's Dance Breloom. Can we say 'Murr'?

Harry Potter's Cornish Pixies are only half of it. A lot of mythical fae-creatures are actually depicted as being far from attractive (while many other may appear attractive to humans only to turn out to be monstrosities later). Mythology is somewhat of a fascination of mine, alongside biology. ^_^

And I definitely agree on Gardies. Somehow, it always looks like having that blade growing RIGHT OUT OF ITS CHEST would be... painful. >>

I'd recognise the posture of the curled up Breloom anywhere! It's based on the Oviraptor that was found curled around its eggs right? Those poor buggers really got shafted with the whole egg robber thing.

I particularly enjoyed the Torterra too, although something seems askew about it's front left leg.

On the whole though I kinda enjoyed these adaptions, although the Gardevoir seems a tad too humanoid for my liking. But hey, each to their own.

i love how how you made the swampert have claws

and the gardevior does look way better with the spikes on its shoulders instead of its chest

the torterra seems like he has more spikes than usual

all in all, your drawings are totally [glow=green,2,300]awesome[/glow]

Thank you all for your comments. ^_^ I appreciate those.

Meangreen: Actually, I didn't base the curled up Breloom on anything in particular - the pose just came to mind. ^^; Interesting because it DOES look like a nesting curlup pose type thingum.

King of Rhinos: Claws are for the win. ^_^

Anyhow, here's the latest batch:

EvolutionOfAnOneirovore.jpg

'Oneirovore', in approximate translation, would mean 'Dream Eater' - something the PokéDex entries always seem to attribute to Drowzee and Hypno. While I'm not sure if the species is solely Oneirovorous or if it requires some sort of more organic sustenance... The title just fit to the whole walking thing.

TransformAndRolloutKabutops.jpg

Several of Kabutops' dex entries suggest that when it swims, it compacts itself by folding its blades and its legs under its shell. This is probably the first art I've ever seen done of Kabutops in this formation. ^^

And some more old stuffs - because I'm too tired to draw anything newer now:

Yukinooh_Sketch.jpg

Abomasnow - half tree, half yeti, half theorpod, half ground sloth? Wait, FOUR halves? o-o

StelStyleStarters.jpg

Drawn with black pens rather than pencils, this was my take on the D/P first form starters, drawn sometime around their release. Disregard random Engrish comments. I was in a Telefang mood.

Magmar.jpg

Another black pen picture, my take on Magmar and Magby. NOT Ducks. More like archosaurid daemonspawn.

very nice, very nice. love the swampert. and....would you be doing requests? doesn't seem likely, but someone would just suggest a pokemon and you'd do your spin on it?

Probably not, since that would end me up having tons of Pikachus, Eevees and other species that are really not interesting. :p

Can I just say that the Drapion scared the crap outta me? I didn't expect to see something that THREATENED TO DEVOUR MY SOUL as I was scrolling down the page. But since Drapion is supposed to be a generally not-nice thing, that's definitely a good trait for a picture of it to have.

Overall, great work, man. You're a very talented artist, and I look forward to seeing more.

...One last thing: I've seen the Magmar pic before. Did you ever post it on the Tavern or something?

Now that's awesome,I liked everyone of them, and yeah Drapion DOES look like a Zelda Boss

Wonder if you may have some metagross out there...?

Mm. Yeah. Had to clear out a few posts.

Ozzybeans, nice to see another fellow person-who-thinks-too-much-into-biology-of-PokéMon... But please. NO THREAD HIJACKING. If you want to post your art, start your own thread. Please.

Also, Blue: this picture was drawn wayyyyyyyy post tavern age. You may have seen it on my dA gallery...

Dang! I never saved that biography on Drapion. Oh well, I guess that's what I get. :p Maybe I should have let you known that I'm WAY too freaking inconsistant to hijack a thread on art.

What you did earlier, that is, posted your own art and whatever in a thread that isn't yours, IS what would be considered thread hijacking. And for that, I for one am not willing to stand.

I would be very interested to see you post an art thread of your own, though. ^_^ Your sketch definitely showed potential...

Oh. Well I suppose I can do that after I scan some pictures of Palkia I drew.

I gave Palkia a less ass-ugly face in them.

So...no hard feelings?

No hard feelings at all. (nods)

Righty-ho! Some new stuffs:

Sceptile_Diloph.jpg

Sceptile! I hate that thing with a passion, which made me want to draw it in an at least semi-attractive way. So I turned it into a Dilophosaur-creature. Because Dilophs pwn souls.

Togeline.jpg

Togepies, Togetics and somewhere out in the distance, a Togekiss. Togepies are social creatures, usually forming colonies in remote locations.During nesting season, the Togepi evolutionary line display a remarkable devotion for their nests and their hatchlings.

In the wild, it is rare for a Togepi to be stuck in its shell for too long - if the hatchling hasn't the energy to crack the rest of the egg on its own, the mother usually assists it in this endeavor. The chicks are usually capable of walking about on their own a short while after hatching, but remain in the nest for a while as they still need the protection of a parent until they have grown enough to protect themselves from predators. Juveniles, only recently evolved, will sometimes stay near the nest to provide further protection and assist in finding food - and thus learn how to care for their own future eggs.

Adult Togetics mate for life, and one of the parents stays with the eggs and/or newly-hatched Togepies while the other hunts for food. Togepies and Togetics are largely vegetarian, but they may also feed on small invertebrates.

I kinda like the inquisitive young'un peeking just over the edge of the nest here. The Standing Togetic is a freshly-evolved Juvenile while the one in the nest is the mother. One of the Togepies is still stuck in its egg - only just hatched, as can be witnessed by its shorter headcrests.

BuizelPursuit.jpg

Not a lot that can be said about that. Except the Remoraid shall soon be pwned.

You took a cute Pokemon and made it into an animal. And..in it's own personal way, it still IS cute. Like, fennec fox cute. Although Togetic kinda looks like a chicken. XD

I like the Floatzel! It doesn't look too much different with the exception of the way the fur was drawn. The one gripe is Floatzel's back legs - even with its tail, it would be INCREDIBLY hard to swim like that.

Sceptile's...Eh, I hate Sceptile. Be Dilophosaur'd doesn't make Sceptile cooler, it makes Dilophosaurs less cool. >_

In case you haven't read the comment, I hate Sceptile with a passion myself, and that is why I tried to improve its currently horrid appearance. In my humble opinion, the pwn-factor of a dinosaur species is not subtracted by making a PokéMon look somewhat like one - and I happen to LIKE my interpretation of this species. And that's an improvement over how much I hate the original species.

If you can't be kind and/or constructive, Ozzy, at least have the decency to be vague.

Also, it's a Buizel, rather than a Floatzel. Floatzel has more prominent fangs and its floatation sac runs alongside its entire body, much in the manner of an inflatable boat, rather than on its collar. I based the pose off a picture I found of a diving otter, and its legs WERE in this position - possibly because it was changing direction in mid-dive. I suppose it would be a bit more difficult to do with the extra-propulsion provided by the tails.

But enough of that. For lo, new stuff!

Lotad_Lombre_Concepts.jpg

The Lotad line is one of the strangest phenomena in the PokéMon world: an archosaurid that shows traits of convergent evolution with amphibians.

Lotad eggs are laid and hatched in water, anchored into water plants. The young Lotads are a life stage parallel to tadpoles in amphibian species - they are mostly waterbound, only surfacing to breathe (though they have a great lung capacity, the line still needs to breathe on occasion) and/or evolve. Also, they are hexapodal - a third pair of flippers (making a total of six flippers) helps propel them in water. Lotads usually float amidst the lilypads for camoflage (the lilypad like leaves on their backs grow symbiotically with them), occasionally diving to feed - their diet is similar to that of terran ducks, with a sole exception - they use the serrated edges of their 'beak' to catch small fish.

When a Lotad is ready to evolve, it will crawl onto land and evolve in process. Lombre, the evolved form, are more adapted for life on land, capable of both bipedal and quadrupedal movement on land as well as rapid swimming in water. Resembling the Kappas of Japanese myth, Lombre retain the feeding patterns of its pre-evolution, though it grows particularily partial to certain types of aquatic moss, which it scrapes off with its claws (these claws are rather sharp and can be used for hunting as well). The Lilypad that symbiotically grows with the PokéMon can be now used to help in regulation of body temperature. In order to protect its skin from small biting insects in its habitat and to make it harder to capture, this PokéMon's skin is usually coated in a layer of slippery film.

Bogforest_Ludicolo.jpg

The line's final evolution, Ludicolo, is water-stone triggered. This creature's body is covered in long plumes which are used both to retain its body temperature and for display purposes. The Lilypad on its head transforms further and becomes reminiscent of a ritualistic head-dress - also used for display purposes. Ludicolo are usually highly energetic and are highly sensitive to rhythm. During mating season, they are known to break into complex dances, which are used to attract and court potential mates, ward off potential rivals, et cetera. Ludicolo are oviparous, laying their eggs in water, anchoring them in water plants. Following that, the parents abandon the eggs and go their separate ways, possibly to mate again. This behaviour increases the chances of some of the eggs surviving - as Lotad eggs are a feast for some other species. A while later, these eggs will hatch into newborn Lotads, and the cycle shall begin again...

That Lotad looks like it's gonna eat me. XD

The Ludicolo picture is neat! I'd love to see that thing dance, myself. I also spy (with my little eye) a Wurmple, a Yanma, a Paras, a Shroomish, a Lotad, and a Nincada in the background. Neat ~_^

Ohhh, so wait. The one on the bottom of the first picture is Lotad and the one on the top is Lombre. Gotcha. Lombre's lilypad looks floppy XD

See. The funny thing about that comment is that, after seeing Stel's Drapion pic awhile ago, I had a fun zombie-attack dream that involved two of his demonic Drapion trying to kill me XP

But onto the art!

I've commented on most of this art in the past, so I'll skip to the stuff I hadn't seen yet. I'm in love with your style of Togetic. I'm not quite sure if it's how I'd picture them IRL, but the way you drew them makes me want to 'pounce 'em. Bloody cute creatures O.O Like bird-hybrids of some sort. Love the touch with the feathers/fur and the sturdy legs/clawed feet.

Next... You made Lotad not look dopey. I love Lotad, mind, but you've got a really interesting take on it, too. The 'feet' in yours are much more believable than its usual stubs for legs, too.

Buizel ftw. You did it great justice with your pic ^^

Keep up the great work, Stel =D

Been artblocked as fuck as of late, so don't mind lack of updates.

Sableye.jpg

Sableye. What's more to say about an awesome demented little cave-dwelling mineralovorous thing?

Nice. I love your rendition of Sableye. :) But is the perspective one falling or leaping? I can't tell if it's doing it on purpose...

I really like the ear-things, and how the diamonds jut out of the shoulderblades. It's very...cool...(I need a better adjective)

Persian: I dunno. I think he's climbing. >>

And now for a bunch of Grass Starters.

Grass.jpg

Because I love the blasted things. I'm least happy with the Chiko, most happy with the Turtwig and Treecko.

There were supposed to be evolutions too but I fail at group pics so no.

Your Turtwig has quills on its shell. o.o Very nice though, I like them all. And I love how Treecko has the twig :p

Wow!!! You're a superb artist!

I know that this is a little delayed, but I absolutely fell in love with your Absol drawing. Absols are beautiful Pokemon, and you captured that beauty perfectly.

Been a while since I've doodled any PokéMon... And since I actually got a couple drawn...

Fossils.jpg

Here's a buncha fossils. I dunno. I like the Omastar, and that's saying something since I normally hate the thing. xD

Well, because some fucktards decided to hack into charms, I have to upload this post for the third fucking time. YAY.

Aerodactyl.jpg

So here's Aerodactyl. Just to finish off the Fossil series, I guess.

GarchompWTF.jpg

And a Garchomp. I hate the damn things, but for some reason I felt like drawing one.

Elekid.jpg

Elekid. For the same reasons as the Garchomp.

MariPortrait.jpg

Mari. Not exactly something I'd upload on this particular sketch thread usually, but she counts as an Electabuzz damnit. >>

Leafiakitteh.jpg

Leafia KITTEH. Drawn from memory. >>

Chimchar.jpg

A... random... Chimchar. I developed a liking to the species because of the anime.

DiamondTeamPicard.jpg

My latest Diamond team: Charlie the Infernape, Advil the Golduck, Chez the Luxray, Avalon the Lucario and Londo the Weavile.

THERE. I hope this is the last fuckin' time I have to post this.

Bumped with a bunch o' Nidos.

Nidos.jpg

The Nidoran line, in my twisted mind at least, has nothing to do with rabbits, or dino-rabbits, but is rather a form of Synapsid (what was historically called a 'mammal-like reptile').

Yes, the royals are missing. Probably off protesting their right to breed. >>

Am I the only one who isn't terrified of that Nidorino? I think they all turned out awesome, and that's saying something for Nidorina XD

And I'd totally glomp those two Nidoran and, in-turn, get impaled by them ^^;

Looking forward to you fulfilling your goal of "saving Nidoqueen" ;)

I agree with you Linkachu, they are very well draw, then again, anyone who can draw pokemon to look as though they would in real life has to be a great drawer, and have a pretty good imagination! I hope to see more drawings by you, in the future.

Haven't posted anything here in effing ages. Truth is I haven't been drawing much PokéStuffs - And the other things I've been drawing just don't fall under the definition of this thread.

Dustoxen.jpg

So here's a random Dustox. Because I can. Tried to make it look less like crap and more like an actual moth.

Vespiquen.jpg

Aerodynamically, Vespiquen is not supposed to be able to fly. However, being the Carrier-Overlord hybrid monstrosity she is, she quite blatantly told the laws of physics to, well, buzz off.

Oh dear. XD That made me lol. x3 I luffles it. I love how she's pointing ONE way and the other are going in every OTHER which way. They listen so well. :'D
