Private/Closed Pokemon Twisted Beige: Kanto journey with a twist! (Discussion)

What Did You Do To Snoke?

Previously Ratbag the Coward
Hello. Welcome to another rp. This will follow the adventures of a group of trainers around the Kanto region. However, the story is twisted. It takes place around 5-10 years from the original Kanto games and there has been an alternate timeline on the way, with a lot of developments to the original towns. Part of the story is based on the rom hack Pokemon Outlaw and/or takes inspiration from Outlaw and Cawps.

Essentially, the region's champion is Red, who was known as the Outlaw, defeated the evil team Rocket, took on the league and became the current champion, at least, that is what you have been told by your parents and the media. Red stayed on as champion, not choosing to do what he did in the Johto games, (where he hid on Mt Silver). However, all of this is a lie. Team Rocket were never evil in the first place. They did do things such as stealing from other people, but their ultimate goal was actually good. When Red took on Giovanni, he banished him and the media portrayed Red as the hero. In reality, Red killed most of the Team Rocket members even when Giovanni told him of his goal to save the region from said trainers like the Outlaw, who actually wanted to do more harm than good. Once Red became the champion, he was basically the President of the region, being able to control the region, with help from the elite four. The elite four had less of a role in ruling the region from that point and Red filled the spots of gym leaders and the elite four with his supporters, using the media to potray, in some cases, brutal executions, as just a gym leader going missing. Red also had most remnants of Team Rocket in Kanto and Johto crushed, in Johto's case, he used a mercenary-Gold, to assassinate the admins. A small rebelion massed to defeat Red-the Resistance. However, Red was able to crush them easily using his reformed police force. He used propaganda to display them as a new evil team coming into the region. Statues in Pallet Town and in some of the cities were built to glorify Red as their own god.

Every year, Red makes the exception of allowing a small group of trainers to go and start a journey, in his image. In this rp, you will control one of these new trainers, as they start to unveil the truth of Red's regime. They will need to get a starter from Professor Ash in Pallet Town-Professor Oak mysteriously died suddenly. The state said that he died of a heart attack, but in reality, Oak was murdered by Red when he spoke out against the champion.

To join, you must post a form:

Name:
Age:
Sex:
Hometown:
Starter (Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Charmander):

Viridian City
In an expanding city where a large shrine to Red has been placed, a normal type gym is located. The gym leader's name is Odessa. After Giovanni was toppled by Red, he left the gym and Blue became the gym leader. However, Blue went missing shortly after it was reported in the newspapers that he was a resistance leader. When the resistance was crushed, Red secretly met Blue. According to some 'crazy' conspiracy theorists, Blue was murdered by Red. A Normal type gym was created to stop drama from escillating. This is the first gym, but it can actually be the last one if you skip it.

Odessa's pokemon: If 1st gym: Rattata, Chansey, Spearow (also a Meowth, Lickitung and a Jigglypuff on hand in place of the Spearow)
If 8th gym: Raticate, Chansey, Meowth, Ditto (She also has a Persian and a Kanghaskhan on hand if needed instead of her Chansey)

Pewter City
In a much larger city than before, the rock type gym led by Brock stood. Brock was a supporter of Red, up until he discovered that Red was murdering innocent civilians, then Brock joined the resistance. It's theorised that Brock was killed after the resistance was crushed. His younger brother, Forrest, ran the gym from then on. After a month of being the gym leader, he too went missing. Red wanted to 'cleanse' Brock's family from the links to the 'evil' teams, meaning all of his siblings, except Billy and Tilly, were killed in the end. Billy became the gym leader that still trains Rock types (well, Billy says it is the ground type, but all the pokemon are rock/ground, so it doesn't matter) but he is constantly on the lookout for Red after he became suspicious when Brock and the others were taken away. This gym is currently being watched by Red's forces.

Billy's Pokemon: Geodude, Omanyte, Kabuto, Onix
Cerulean City
Waterways have been expanded upon. Misty, who was originally a Red supporter, became suspicious of his activities. However, due to her position as a supporter, she did not defect. She hopes to use her position as a way of drawing Red's true self out. However, Red became suspicious of her motives and put the gym under watch. Misty therefore took safety precautions and put a younger a more glamerous girl and best friend to Misty-called Brooklyn, as the gym leader. This decision was further fueled when Misty's sisters became under threat: Daisy was attacked multiple times and Lily vanished.

Brooklyn's pokemon: Goldeen, Poliwag, Horsea, Starmie
Vermillion City
Originally doubting Red's ability as a pokemon trainer, Lt.Surge soon learned how powerful Red could be. When he heard about Red's victory of being champion, he warmed to him. When he saw Red enforcing order in Vermillion, he stuck as one of Red's most loyal servants. Lt.Surge commands part of Red's discipline army. There is also a propaganda tower hidden in the lighthouse of this town, transmitting it through radio means.

Surge's pokemon: Voltorb, Magnemite, Electabuzz
Lavender Town
For 4 years after Red was crowned champion, a radio tower was put in the place of the existing pokemon tower. However, Red deemed it too obvious for it to be a broadcasting tower. He had the tower transformed back into the tower for a graveyard, as it previously was. Despite this, Red still had a radio Propaganda signal being transmitted from a secret room in the tower. A gym has also been set up towards the top of the tower too. It trains ghost type pokemon under the leader of Cade. It also trains pokemon that can learn ghost type moves.

Cade's pokemon: Gastly, Haunter, Gengar + others which can learn ghost moves
Celadon City
The city has been made bigger and a sewer system was deployed to control waste. It is here in the sewers where a small remnant faction of Team Rocket remain. Erika was accepting of Red's existance as champion but one day got into an argument with Red's enforcers for not following a new law he made. Harsh penalties meant Erika went into hiding, mainly in the sewers, for a brief amount of time. She then came back up again to the mainland and tried to go back to her gym. She found that a new gym had been set up-a flying type gym under the leader of Gale. Erika decieded to set up a second gym in Celadon with her original gym trainers following her.

Erika's pokemon: Tangela, Weepinbell, Bellosom, Vileplume (Exeggcute and Victreebell are in reserves too)

Gale's Pokemon: Fearow, Pidgeot, Aerodactyl, Farfetch'd (others as well can swap to)
Fushsia City
Red began to store rare and powerful pokemon in a seperate area in the Safari zone, which started to have restricted access to the public after Red had it closed down. One can still enter the Safari Zone though, if one sneaks in. Janine became the gym leader. She followed her father's advice and stuck with her support for Red but she is ready to strike against Red if Red should make a false move. A building with a challenge inside of it with the former warden's son is also here.

Janine's pokemon: Koffing, Venomoth, Arbok, Tentacool, Nidorina (She also has a Vileplume)
Saffron City
The city is now huge in comparison to the other cities. Sabrina remained the gym leader on the side of Red, but there is rivalry with another gym that is set up here: a fighting type gym which is basically a revamped version of the fighting dojo. The sensei inside started to develop a secret intense hate for Red and made the dojo into a gym again to challenge Sabrina. Sabrina often gets caught up in the conflict in the city and so relies on another to take care of the gym. Alfonso is the name of the gym leader and he is the son of the sensei, Koichi

Sabrina's Pokemon: Kadabra, Alakazam, Drowzee, Slowpoke (also has a Jynx, Hypno and a Slowbro)

Alfonso's Pokemon: Poliwrath, Primeape, Hitmonlee,Hitmonchan, Machoke
Cinnabar Island
After witnessing an erruption, Blaine is nowhere to be seen. The inhabitants fled to the Seafoam islands, before going back to Cinnabar. Blaine's daughter now runs the gym. She is unaware that Red killed Blaine and that the erruption was an excuse for his death. An ice type gym was set up in the old one's place in the seafoam islands. Hailey is her name.

Hailey's Pokemon: Lapras, Dewgong, Cloyster, Jynx
The Elite Four
Lorelei's Fate
Lorelei was killed by Red at some point when she objected to his rule as champion, off the coast of Kanto at her hometown in the Sevii Islands
Bruno's Fate
Originally supportive of Red's strength, Red kept him. However, when Bruno found out about the secret killings and what happened to Lorelei, he went into hiding and left the elite four. He is currently situated in the Fighting type gym in Saffron City.
Agatha's Fate
Agatha was one of the most supportive members of the league for Red's ruthlessness. It appeared that she was just playing a game of lies with him, when she tried to take him on herself. She came out of it unscathed, but she died the next day. The state said that it was because of 'old age.'
Lance's Fate
Lance never became champion and Red made sure to win when Lance tried to challenge him for the title. Red valued Lance's talent as a battler, as he told him. As a result, Lance wasn't killed, but brainwashed, using Red's new technology invented to invade a person's mind with extreme support and propaganda. Lance became fully brainwashed and is his strongest battler.
The New Elite Four
Red had to choose new members on the elite four. Will was given Lorelei's position for a few years, before he too realised the truth and ran away. Koga's talent as a gym leader was valued and when Red gave him the elite four post, happily supported Red. Karen never became an elite four member. A fairy type specialist from Viridian City was chosen to be an elite four member, called Pixie. Using propaganda, she is potrayed as a kind, nice and simple girl. In reality, she will do anything she can to support Red. The other new member is Blaine's daughter-Seraphina who also uses fire types and is strong. She also runs the old gym back on Cinnabar island, to avoid conflict with the locals. However, most people tend to challenge the ice type gym.

Pixie's pokemon: Clefable, Wigglytuff, Mr.Mime. (Also a Slyveon. If battled 5 vs 5, she uses the same pokemon more than once/uses other pokemon that can learn fairy type moves)

Seraphina's Pokemon: Arcanine, Ninetales, Magmar, Rapidash, Flareon (Also a Magmortar and Charizard)

Koga's Pokemon: Weezing, Muk, Crobat, Beedrill, Gengar (Venomoth, Venusaur, Tentacruel and Nidoking are all examples of other pokemon he has)

Lance's Pokemon: Multiple Dragonite and Dragonair, Gyrados, Aerodactyl (Charizard stored away)
Police officers and army men under the same banner, who work for the state. They are under the complete control of Red and the elite four. Their leader is a muscular gentleman named Stephan, who likes to enforce order and decipline into individuals on the spot. Sabrina and Lt.Surge have significant roles in this group.

Stephan's pokemon: Machamp, Golduck, Pinsir, Nidoking,

Rules:
  • No godmodding/overpowered trainers. Most trainers are easily defeated by Red
  • You can only encounter Pokemon from Kanto. However, pokemon with evolutions from other regions may still happen, e.g. Lickitung can now evolve into Lickilicky.
  • The dark type, steel type and the fairy type exist and any moves from later generations can be used, so long as it's in the pokemon's movepool. No Z moves or mega evolutions please!
  • No legendaries!

Yes more than one person can have the same starter. Pikachu and Eevee aren't an option given to trainers. It's impossible to get an Eevee from the professor, but there is a Pikachu being stored. The trainers are only given the option of the three, but if they behave a certain way and get round the professor, they may find a Pikachu. You are accepted, btw
When will you post the rp thread?
It'll come today. I'm a bit busy at the moment.

I wanted to try a grass type this time but I'm a dedicated water type trainer with the exception of rowlet. And yeah I did train a bulbasaur before and the trick on having smooth wins with it is that it should be a level higher than the trainers it'll face, thats my trick what about you guys? What sorts of tricks do you use when you pick a grass type starter?

I wanna post, but mikaela just had to be the only one posting so now I have to seem like I'm late. *incredibly heavy sigh* and now I gotta act mature for once in an RP since I'm the oldest *even heavier sigh*

You know what... Squirtle. That's it- no more mind wavering. So now we've got 2 charamanders, 2 squirtles, and one bulbasaur

Mikaela suggested I come over here, and I'm already seeing a couple familiar faces. So, hi again! The following profile I'm about to make is tentative, which means I am NOT necessarily joining before I have more information.

Name: Hibiki (Gold's younger brother, AKA "Heart Gold")
Age: 16
Sex: M
Hometown: New Bark Town
Starter: Charmander
Personality: Hibiki has spent most of his life living in his brother's shadow, and it has made him slightly paranoid about how much he has to live up to. As a result, he's become eager to please, and steadfastly loyal to both Gold and Red. Hibiki is polite and knowledgeable about pokemon training, but also pigheaded and naive in his perception of the world. He grossly overuses the word "dude."

And now, I have a couple of questions for you, Johnson.
1. What is Red's endgame here? He overthrew a region, and some people support him, but why? Power is a means, not an end. I understand if you can't tell me, but can you at least reasonably assure me that Red does have some political or ethical motives beyond a vain need to be praised?
2. Is it okay that I'm using Gold's little brother as my character? I'm trying to go for someone that Red wouldn't suspect of foul play, and also someone worthy of the Red Journey rendition.
3. Why do any people want to make the Trainer's Journey in Red's image, when it means they're being closely watched by a guy surrounded by the corpses of everyone who disappoints him? Or, if they're just ignorant of that, why make the journey, period? I know Red's making propaganda that it's a good thing, but why's it good? I ask, because sooner than later, my character's going to sit down like a bottle cap collector and wonder why he's doing this (and it won't be "because I have to beat Red").

You don't have to add a personality. I was going to let people see Chris's personality and appearance in the RP. (quite frankly I'm happy I can do this since that is the hardest part for nearly every single bio I do lol) Still I don't mean to be negative in anyway, in fact I'm happy to see you again and to see you participating in this.

Your form is accepted! Charizard is definately overated now!

1. Red hopes to continue ruling. He and his supporters believe that they can bring order to the region after Team Rocket was there before. The truth is that Team Rocket never really did anything wrong and that Red used propaganda to the tell the story how we see it in the actual gen 1 games, where he was the hero and the rockets were completely evil. He needs support to keep the region stable.
2.It's fine that he is the brother to Gold. Gold's backstory in this is that he is a mecenary for Red, but he won't be seen in this rp, as he is stationed in Johto. If we ever do a sequel, Gold will replace Red as the main Antagonist.
3.Noone knows about the deaths Red caused, except Red and a few people from groups that found out, like Team Rocket and the resistance. However, the Resistance and Team Rocket were crushed-most of their members were killed in secret. The public were told that they had been arrested and were being kept in a prison south of the pokemon League Elite Four enterence. Propaganda has been installed in the region, to brainwash the public, both through means on the TVs people have and also through the radio signals broadcasted from Lavender Town and Vermillion City. If told about the deaths, most members of the public would poo-poo the idea, saying that the person who mentioned it was just making it up, or, that the deaths were needed to stop a certain 'villanious' group that threatened to destroy the region. The concept of a 'journey' is just to insert propaganda into young people's minds in order to win them over-things such as the choice of a starter makes them feel like they are free, as they have a choice, and so Red is using sneaky phychological tricks to win them over

how is charizard overrated if only 2 people have charmander and one doesnt even want to? (i could get bulbasaur too but i feel it would lack originality since mikaela already has him)

I thought I originally counted 3 charmanders and Charizard is a lot of people's favourite starter pokemon. I mean, one has to only go into a top 10 video on Youtube to find him in the top 10 most overated pokemon. I still like Charizard though.

Really? While I do believe Mega Charizard X is strong, I believe Mega Charizard Y is better. Charizard has a better chance of defeating opponents with special attack moves since he is naturally better at that, plus most of his fire type moves that give the Pokémon STAB Bonus are special. Mega Charizard Y not only gives the already powerful fire type moves, with already STAB, extra power, with Drought, but Mega Charizard Y gets added special attack. Mega Charizard Y also keeps its immunity to one of fire type's most powerful weaknesses, ground. Thus, I believe Mega Charizard Y is better at taking down more Pokémon and being competitive. I believe Mega Charizard X is ok for story purposes, the dragon type certainly pleases many, and it's blue fire design is "cool," however Mega Charizard Y is better overall. This is not a place to discuss this since it's off-topic but I still feel the need to give my opinion.

I do feel the dragon type was needed though, plus the 4x rock weakness on the Y mega. Yeah, we better not go off-topic further!
